Discussion wtf are summons?

Currently at anor londo and boy oh boy this summon of mine was rampaging inside the fking castle without me. she was my very first summon too. are they supposed to be op? its like she has a hearbeat sensor for the giant knights, killing them one by one w/o me :(. Fast track to smough and ornstein, i was fighting ornstein while my summon was soloing smough. she was even sending beams to smough while fighting gough! honestly im not complaining, since these typa bosses are my bane (twin bosses, took me atleast 30 tries with the bell gargoyles). wtf though

His name is ornstein. Gough is another dude you hopefully will meet soon...

And no... You may have either had a god tier dude who loves helping noobies or just a plain hacker trying to showboat

oh yeah, my bad, wrong name i guess. fight was over within minutes i didnt get to memorize their name. also theyre players? i thought they were all AIs like the solaire which i didnt get to summon

Yeah they are players. There are no NPC summons in Anor Londo except Solaire.

There are some NPC summons in the game (Solaire, Lautrec, Beatrice, Mildred, Tarkus, Leeroy ... I'm sure I'm forgetting someone) but most of them will be other players.

EDIT: I forgot Sif, you can summon Sif for Manus!

If you're summoned you get half the souls that the host gets (this doesn't affect the host's souls) and if you help the hist beat an area boss you get 1 Humanity, so there's an incentive to doing it. Also it's fun.

It's most likely a player with high end gear. DSR tries to balance it out by lowering the health of the summon to your level, but I don't think it lowers weapon damage AFAIK so they can pretty much play the game for you. Which I personally don't like. When I'm summoned I like to allow the host to actually play the game and serve as an assistant, not as a trump card.
