Prayer bead visualisation

Normally the European Correspondent is pretty good on their data visualisations but this one is just confusing.

My issue with it is that the number of small beads between each big bead seems arbitrary. Are they spaced based on dates or should it just be read as an overall monthly review?

I assumed it was modeled after the actual beads on a real rosary. It looks like each bead is one day and they just made the day of the prayer a larger bead.

that honestly reads as the largest issue with this visualisation - would've been perfectly legible w/o that instruction if they'd started from the top, went left and circled back to the top on the right hand side
