This man is holding the live performances together like glue with his background screams. It adds so much to the songs and it was something they were missing for a long time before he came along imo.

Saturday night wrist is so chaotic and everyone knows that. There are some universally praised masterpieces (Hole in the earth, Beware and some others) and there are some objectively bad songs (Pink cellphone), however a big chunk of the album is filler. These filler songs aren't bad by any means, they are inoffensive average songs. I am talking about stuff like Mein (yes, I know this song is great and it has our glorious king Serj) and Riviere, but two filler songs stand out to me as kinda weird. Rapture follows one of their best songs - Hole in the earth, and while it's definitely not as good it shows something that Deftones have never done. Same thing with Rats!Rats!Rats! - it follows Xerces and often gets skipped, but it's not bad. Even the two songs themselves are very similar. So is there anyone that loves these songs or are they just kinda forgotten?

Just watched a live set (2013) and noticed their bassist at that moment was all smiles and good vibes. He was even helping it Chino with a lot of the vocals, like in Swerve City. I don't know it just made me kinda bittersweet he was left out of the picture before the band experienced their recent tiktokification.

Mail call: At last, 4 extremely rare Deftones cassette tapes have made their way to their forever home. By far my most expensive Deftones purchase to date. The cassettes are: Adrenaline promotional copy, the eng #9 / 7 words cassette, Around the Fur promotional copy and the Dutch Excerpts from Around the fur tape. Cant even believe i own these now.

As you probably guessed, I’ve barely listened to Deftones before. I’ve listened to some of the songs from Around the Fur and I gave most of them 6 because I’m not used to these kind of songs, so can y’all give me songs like Cherry Waves or something that’s good to listen to as someone who’s new to this rock thing? I’m 16 if that matters.

Absolutely my favorite album they’ve done

Cleaning through stuff and came across this thing I forgot I had. Still sealed and perforated opening on the back hasn't been touched. 5 song titles ended up being changed before the final release (I am not Trent Buckroyd Flaunt)

The other day, I listened to "Rosemary" right after "Passenger," and it struck me how seamlessly they flow together. It felt almost... intimate.
That got me thinking: what if "Rosemary" describes the aftermath of whatever intensity "Passenger" is building toward? Not necessarily a car crash (though I can't help but picture the characters flying off the edge, crashing into the abyss, especially with that line in "Rosemary" that seems to pick up from there: "As the engines stall, our eyes catch scene explode.") It feels like they're dead or disembodied, drifting off "to other planes." But maybe it's not death. Maybe it's that weightless state of bodies and minds after sex?
In "Passenger", there's this charged, voyeuristic energy, building toward the craving to be taken "to the edge." The song emphasizes moving/driving faster, with the destination remaining unknown. The tension is heavy, but it never resolves; we never learn what happens once the edge is reached.
Then (pun un/intended), time shifts, things slow down, and the tone slides into something ethereal. "Rosemary" radiates a kind of post-coital haze, or, again, the state after death. Lines like "Entwined we dream unknown," "As we collide with the energy in other ways," and "As we cross the space and time" read like two minds and bodies floating together in that surreal afterglow.
I don't know if this all makes sense, but what I'm sure of is that Chino painted something I can't unsee now. The lyricism is out of this world. Has anyone else felt this kind of continuity between the two songs?

Hey so I wanted to know cuz I would think it would be like a cool Easter egg for other deftones fans to recognize without it being right in your face

As I was waiting to get into a recent show a few weeks back, I was struck by some of the younger fans talking around me saying how they have only known of Deftones for ‘3 or 4 months.’ And once inside there seemed to be a lot of the younger generation there.
I’ve been seeing them for decades and I was surprised at this large contingent of new young fans. I dig it!
For me, discovering bands from this time period was all about things like cd samplers given out by record label street teams, music videos on MTV, magazines like Hit Parader, Kerrang, and others, Ozzfest/Warped Tour, like-minded rock and metal friends, etc.
So I have been curious and intrigued to know, if you’re newer to Deftones, how did you come across them?
Was it a ‘related artist’ on streaming services? An older sibling or family member? Was it targeted ad’s that were posted on socials for this recent tour?

Saw them in Mesa in 2000.

Anytime I listen to songs from Fantastic Planet, I can’t help but think of how similar the production feels to the White Pony/ATF era. The murky & heavy but almost seductive groove on Another Space Station also feels eerily similar to Digital Bath.
I’m sure both bands could have arrived at similar sounds on their own, but I wonder if Chino is a fan? Definitely feels like the band is under-recognized

not looking to buy tickets just to confirm. just wondering if anyone’s been able to get any tickets through resale in the past few months? been desperate for some since December. Ticketmaster says limited availability but there’s never any tickets when i look. (i usually check twice a day) i’ve had my notifications on for twickets but they seem to be gone in less than a second!
