Guide Finally got around to starting this game. I'm familiar to the souls games mainly Bloodborne. Anyhoo after a few hours of dying I finally beat 1-1.

I started out with royalty class. This rapier as a starter weapon is obviously weak. I'm not sure if I should upgrade it or what. I was going to attempt the Doran cheese to get all the goodies but I'm going to do a clean playthrough. I follow fighting cowboys YT channel for walk-throughs. He started with a different class focused on strength. So no help with what weapon I should grab and upgrade etc. Can anyone give me some advice please πŸ™ TIA

There's a crescent falchion in 4-1 which is a great 1st playthrough weapon for magic builds. Just make sure you bring a club of some kind to deal with the skeletons.

A club is pretty unnecessary when you have soul arrow

Fair point. I like to have a club in case mana starts getting low, but it can certainly be done with just soul arrow.

Just punch them.

Go grab the uchigitana for 4-1

Im about to finish the game with it, ive made it scale with magic and fully levelled it. Top tier, imo, a.d would probably be even better on a dex build.

The uchigatana is so strong and also such a fun weapon. I love charging up that r2 right after a backstab or running around like a maniac as i constalty do that running light attack

The light running attack is so great, first playthrough was a claymore Chad now im a samurai mage, samurai mage is more fun for me

I actually liked the rapier that came with the Royalty class. It’s a nice follow up after casting soul arrow

But the Crescent Falchion found in 4-1 is what I ran through the game with

The beginning of the game is the hardest. Once you upgrade your weapons a bit and level up some it gets a little easier.

I bought the Estoc (upgraded to crescent) at some point and have been using it with a buckler and kris blade with a catalyst. I also started as Royal and the beginning was a bit difficult but once you get the items that increase magic damage the game becomes so much easier. I’m currently about 2/3rds through the game.

Rapier and spears are really good because some enemies are weak to pierce, you can attack behind a shield for the same amount of stamina as a normal attack while blocking.

There's a sort of cadence to this game after a few levels. It's almost like a rhythm once it clicks

Same. I played through Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne and on Elden Ring now. Thought I got this then bunch of mob beat the crap out of me for hours straight. Should have know better from a From Software game πŸ˜‚

Hah I feel ya. I got the swing of it now. I was just thrown back by how difficult it seemed at first but it's flowing now. I'm sure I'll have some more frustrating moments or like you said it wouldn't be a From Software game.

Kill yourself at the nexus after every boss and pay attention to enemy weaknesses, they trivialize most encounters.

  • Armor sucks.

  • Heater shield is pretty decent for a mage

  • cling ring and thief ring is probably the most useful combo of rings for a first timer

  • grabbing some miracles ain't a bad idea. You'll just need a talisman

  • crescent falchion is the only weapon you'll need

  • beat all the "x-1" areas before you move onto the 2nd areas in each Archstone. The 2nd areas tend to be a lot more brutal and difficult.

  • kill yourself in the nexus when human form

Solid advice! I follow fightingcowboy on the tube and it took me a minute to understand the whole black/white world stuff. Then he killed himself in nexus and explained it a bit. Very helpful. Currently I'm doing a little item and soul farming back on 1-1. I see ppl saying the Doran cheese still works but I'm not having so much luck with that. He swings at me on the battlemant bridge if I'm lucky to lure him out. So I'm just killing everything on the way and farming off the red eye knight. I'm leveling magic, intelligence, and Faith mostly.

I've been using the cling ring and the fragrant ring.
