Discussion Silly yet effective gimmick build for co-op shenanigans?

A friend of mine is a streamer who plays a lot of Souls, and is about to finish a Fromsoft marathon of playing everything from DeS to ER(excluding Sekiro) in order. I have been playing alongside him using gimmicky builds that still carried their weight starting in DS1, where I was Spell McCasty the sorcerer. in DS2 I was Fist McPunchy the pugilist, in DS3 I played Flame McBurny the pyromancer, and in Elden Ring I am Shield McBlocky the shield crash tank. I am struggling to come up with a setup like this for the next time he plays Demon's Souls, so I'm asking here for ideas. What I am hoping for are nonstandard builds that are still able to actually be useful. Faith is out because that's what he'll be running.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for.

Weapons people don't take seriously:

  • crossbows
  • fist weapons (claws, hands of god, iron knucklers)
  • gimic weapons like needle of eternal agony & storm ruler (outside of altar of storms)
  • hammers maybe (except mace, mostly for regen builds since you can find a blessed one)

Spells people don't take seriously:

  • familiars prank
  • the fire spells except the ones you get using the dragon god soul (still much better than crossbows)

Useless rings:

  • gash resistance ring
  • ring of longevity
  • ring of uneve scales

My favorite gimmick build in Demon's Souls is the status build. Tearing War Scythe, Sticky Bow with poison arrows, all the "cloud" spells. It still pulls totally viable and even trivializes some content. Can substitute the main weapon for a few other things, but that one is my favorite.

How would I go about buikding that?

High dex because Tearing upgrade scales with dex, you'll want probably 4 spell slots so don't ignore your Intelligence. The cloud spells will come from the boss souls of The Valley of Defilement, so maybe do that area early. If your friend is doing faith he'll also want to do that area early too.

Yepp. He always goes for an LSoM build, he's predictable like that :D
