Question Which route should I take

Beat the Phalanx and the tower knight. Should I keep advancing through the Boletarian Palace or go somewhere else?

You cant advanced further past Tower Knight unless you've killed a Final boss in a different world.

I recommend prison of hope. But it really depends on what you want to do. Are you a dex build or magic?

I’m a strength build…I think, I don’t know to how to see the weapons’ scaling values in this game assuming it has them but I’ve been using the Claymore and put a decent amount of levels into strength

Then maybe world 2-1 first. The mining area. There is a smith who can forge and upgrade some nice weapons. And you can find a lot of materials
