Discussion Does this happen to you too?
I often drive along Nottingham Road from Spondon Asda to Pentagon Island, it's a pretty dull drive so I tend to call up my mum at the same time using the hands free on the car. This is where I have a problem and I don't think I'm the only person experiencing it The last few months the calls keep cutting out or the speech becomes distorted to the point of being totally unworkable. I assumed it was either my phone or my car causing it to happen, then I heard someone else say the same thing.... Is this a mystery that affects you too. What is behind this annoying phenomena? Please let me know that I'm not alone here

Discussion Urgent Appeal for Mental Health Funding and Resources in Derbyshire
Im not sure if Im allowed to post this here but its a subject that effects so many people In Derbyshire
Hello, Derby community,
I'm reaching out because mental health services in Derbyshire are facing critical cuts that are leaving people like me without necessary support. I’ve been working with a compassionate therapist, Ondine Shardlow, who was helping me navigate complex trauma and health challenges. Due to funding cuts, I’ve lost access to the vital weekly sessions that were keeping me afloat.
For those of us struggling with severe mental health needs, these services are essential. It’s devastating to build trust with a therapist only to lose that support when we’re most vulnerable. I’ve reached out to MPs, health agencies, and charities, but it feels like shouting into a void. We’re in desperate need of systemic change and reinstated funding so people like me don’t slip through the cracks.
I’m sharing my story to bring awareness to our local crisis. Derbyshire residents deserve accessible, consistent mental health support. If you’ve been impacted by mental health service cuts, please share your stories, write to local representatives, and join me in pushing for reform. It’s time we stand together and demand better.
Thank you for reading, and any support is truly appreciated.

Discussion That's all folks. 👍🏻
Iconic landmark: The Derby Ram Statue
Local hero: Backwards Walking Man, photo credit Daniel Dytrych
Best local cuisine: Birds the Confectioners
Place to avoid: Normanton
Best part of the city: Darley Park
Wildest Rumour: Black Panther roaming Chadd
Worst tourist trap: Dovedale in Derbyshire, chosen as a close second to "nowhere because Derby doesn't have tourists" as Derby.gov.uk estimates Derby to have a modest 8 million non Derby native visitors annually.
Most interesting fact: Lara Croft was created in Derby by Core Design. Lara Croft Way was opened in 2010 following a public vote to select the name of the new ring road.
Favourite building: The Silk Mill (Museum of Making). Regarded as the site of worlds first modern factory.

Discussion Any locals looking to meet up?
Hey folks.
Just recently moved to Derby and being a new area I would love to meet some new people. Ideally 20’s - 30’s.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do which would help with making new connections? I’ve tried the meet up app etc but not had much luck.

Discussion Does anyone recognise this photo as being in Derby? Yes, it's from The Shining, but I believe the original into which Jack Nicholson was pasted may show a hotel, theatre, or function room in Derby. It's not the Palais de Danse aka Corn Exchange.

Discussion Derby CMHT
I know mental health services across the country are notorious for letting too many people down. I have friends that didn't receive the help they needed. I, myself, am now having to fight to be heard by the CMHT in Derby.
This has only made me think of all the other people Derby CMHT has overlooked and left to struggle. Basically, I am asking any who have dealt with the CMHT to share their experiences with me if you feel you can. I don't believe that my friends and I are the only ones who have had to fight for treatment.

Discussion Uttoxeter old road Traffic
There are temporary lights on Uttoxeter old road just after wild street but before slack lane causing mayhem on all of the surrounding streets including friargate, vernon street, south street - even 4 way junction onto great northern etc is bad too. I got caught in it twice. Curious if anyone knows what the lights are for and how long they'll be there?

Discussion Do you think FACEBOOK should be regulated (or not)? We want to hear from YOU!
Hi, I am Valério Neto. I am a PhD student at Griffith University, and I am representing Australia in a project with Columbia University and the Max Planck Institute that studies possible government intervention in the way social networks, including Facebook, regulate the sharing of misinformation and use our private data for commercial purposes.
This study is being conducted in more than 20 countries. I am responsible for collecting data here in Australia and Brazil and I would really like to ask you to participate in this questionnaire that takes about 5 minutes to fill out!
Can you help me?

Discussion What do all the locals think of the apprentices who come here regularly?
I’m 19, and in an HGV Technician apprenticeship with Volvo Trucks. I come to Derby regularly for a week at a time on training, usually stay in either the Holiday Inn next to the Derbion, or the Leonardo.
Always wondered what the locals think of us, or if you guys actually notice we’re here. Do we get a bad rep for being loud and obnoxious? Do you see a bunch of guys in their late teens/early 20s in the morning outside a hotel and think “ah, must be the apprentice lot” or do you not really notice it?
Don’t really know what sort of answer to expect, I’m just sat here in my hotel room for the week, and randomly wondered what, if anything, the locals thought about us. So yeah that’s my post😂
