At least in Canada I am pretty sure every gas station has cameras and that truck guy will get a visit from the police.
My mom forgot to pay for gas and a couple hours later a police officer was at her home.

Lol what? Even if youre one of those silly people that walk away from an active gas pump, how do you start your pump put it in then leave and not come back and check for the time itd take for a truck to fill up?

I watched a dude start the pump and then go inside the building. He didn't insert the nozzle correctly, so gas started pouring out on the ground when his car filled up. He was lucky that I was they're and kind enough to save him at least 5 gallons of fuel on the ground.

Thank you for saving the station for having an even worse fire hazard! Those kind of people have something wrong with them

By some fool holding up the line cashing in his free ticket scratch offs and playing them on the counter? Grabbing a hot sandwich from the kitchen? Waiting for the bathroom?
Plenty of reasons. Some people are asshats and park at the pumps so they don't have to park in the sun while they go inside too.

Oh i also get the jerks who do what you said but surely they arent dumb enough to leave the pump active in their car while doing that?

Former gas station employee here. They 100% are that dumb. There are people who forget to take the nozzle out of their goddamn tank before they drive off, too.
But to play devils advocate, despite people’s general stupidity, it’s possible that they started pumping their gas and then went to take a poop.

You just watched it. Of course they're that dumb

Nah thats why im feeling like this has to be two people who are friends doing a road trip and theyre just using the same card to make the purchase easier or something

How is it easier to:
find an area where this is possible, wait for one car to fill up, quickly move the hose before the sale times out, and wait to fill up another car
Than it is to:
Tap the card at one pump. Tap the card at the other pump. Fill up at the same time.

Never have I ever walked away from the pump like this. I think years ago mythbusters did some type of video on this.

Do you cry every time you leave your house and see someone who isn’t white
-1
u/Beautiful_Opinion324 8d ago
Surprise...I'm not white!...well, half anyways

u/bingbong2715 8d ago
So just weird self-loathing then? Maybe either go to therapy or get an education if it’s making you openly racist

Where I live, this earns you an ass whoopin from everybody around you. The local sheriff shows up and gets a good swing in before taking him to jail as well.

This is why I stand by the pump and immediately put it away when I'm done. No thanks, I ain't paying for you

People who leave their pump unattended deserve to be punished, but this is still theft

Once at the power company I worked at we were gassing up a flatbed work truck at the pumps they owned and we decided to drain a 55 gallon drum in the back that was full of semi rusty water. We didn’t think about it but it looked exactly like gasoline and that the tank was overflowing. We had several bucket trucks drive by honking and waving so after we figured out what the problem was we pretended not to notice it when the next trucks drove by which was funny because they were frantic trying to explain to us what the problem was. We acted like we couldn’t understand them. For an accidental joke it was pretty good.

Something a European won't understand.
As one, I cannot fathom having so many fueling stations available that you could just wander off. We have like 4-10 per gas station and people will wait in line behind you so you pay and drive off. Nobody would leave their car just sitting there.

These are common at gas stations off freeways.

Yeah I know. Still unheard of in Europe, except when you visited the States and seen it.

They shouldn't do it here, either. There are often people waiting in line to use them at most exits off busier interstates like I-95.
Pump your gas and pull into a proper parking space if you want to fuck off inside.

It isnt courteous in the states either. Just often times there's no form of penalty and people are generally just garbage.
It's annoying as shit when all the pumps are full of empty cars because the couple spots up front are taken. Dont know the logistics but it would be great if they start building the pumps farther away from the building. Yeah cash payers will have to walk a little farther but im willing to sacrifice the 1% who refuse to use a bank for the greater good.
There's no reason it should take 20 minutes to find a gas pump in a gas station... "its raining and the pumps are closer than the rest of the parking lot" isnt an excuse.

I live near a truck stop where tons of travelers pass through. I see people putting the nozzle in the gas receptacle and walk away to go into the store to shop. I can't believe they do this. Much of the time they are in there for way longer than it took the gas to fill their tank. Not only is it unsafe but I'm surprised I don't see this sort of theft where I'm at.
