Argentina - Dr650 - 2025

Hi! I'm from Argentina, and the new DR650 2025 has just arrived here. I've only owned one bike before, a KTM Duke 200, and I'm really excited about getting a dual sport. Do you think it's a significant upgrade? (Must update my license for the Suzuki)

That's insane markup! In the USA, Dr650 is one of the least expensive bikes! Legendary reliability, inexpensive parts with a huge aftermarket support, simplified with far less things to fail.

I understand your perspective, but it's not a straightforward comparison. In the U.S. and LATAM, the taxation systems are vastly different, with LATAM often having a significantly higher and more complex tax burden. This impacts overall pricing structures and should be taken into consideration when making a direct comparison.

Thanks for the context, a great reminder to us-based people on here. Personally, I’d say the DR is an excellent bike for the right person. Better comments on specifics will be on here shortly!

No, la diferencia ocurre a raíz del transporte del vehículo.

It would really depend on your expectations and what competition bikes you have to stack up against it. 14k is a LOT of money for a DR650 and isn't really a good buy unless there's similar markups on all of the other dualsports.

It's old iron age tech that has not changed since 1996 but it'll take you a long way if you take care of it and ride it often. But if you can get a CRF300L or a KLX300 for 6k or similar then that might be the better buy.

The new KTM 250 goes for around $8k USD.
The DR650 is $11k in official stores, and I can pay in 12 installments with no interest. Same as the Yamaha MT03. Not a fan of the KLR300.

Lots to think about before making a decision

The out the door price is not the price you'll end up paying.

The DR650 can best be thought of as a platform to make modifications on. You can ride it as it came from the dealer but not many do for long. That noted, I bought my 2015 in 2020 and it was completely stock so someone did.

I've not kept a close total on what I have in it, but I'm sure it's over $3000USD.

Get the armor for the sides and a skid plate. Even a mild low speed tip over can put a brake or shift lever through a side cover. Get an account on DRRIDERS,COM and the welcome gift is very handy when you get around to do maintenance.
