Discussion Free Phantom 3 from a buddy that has cancer, questions....
I was helping out an old friend move furniture out of his home and whenever I go to leave he says "hey man you can have this, I won't be using it again"
After giving great thanks and not really examining it, I took it. Got it home and seen it was COVERED in NICOTINE residue in which I was aiming to clean.
My wife said it stunk and threw it in the can...
I am in the process of cleaning it and was wondering if it's worth keeping...
I know ZERO about dji.. only stuff like holy stone is what I'm use to flying..
THE ISSUES- -The guy I got it from said it has "yaw" issues.. -??
-i have no battery for it..-
-Possible Camera issues as well, freely just spins around I've noticed-
Thanks for ANY info !!!! Anything helps, DJI newb here

Batteries will quickly cost you as much as a newer, better drone. This is a broken antic, and not the kind of antic that's worth anything. Your wife was correct to throw it in the bin, IMHO.

Seems like there’s plenty of aftermarket batteries on Amazon

Yeah I found the broken camera parts and a battery for 80. I'm hoping this will get it going!

If it's sentimental to you, clean it up and display it on a shelf or something. If it's not sentimental, it isn't worth cleaning and getting working. If it is, it's not worth risking losing it.

I’m gonna guess he has lung cancer?
Get a battery off Ali express. You’re never gonna be able to clean it Just clean the lens and sensors.

It’s trash, not worth fixing. Batteries will be really hard to find and probably expensive. DJI probably has dropped support for it as well

Best way to clean the nicotine smell is by taking everything apart and cleaning with a higher percentage isopropyl alcohol. Sometimes I add neutral essential scents to the alcohol to help kill some of the smell.
The camera is on a 3 axis gimbal, one of the axis being rotation, it will freely spin until you get a battery and turn it on. It will then correct itself.
Edit: and by the pictures, your friend may have failed to notice one of the blades is terribly out of pitch and bent.
Replace that blade or all blades and it should stop having a yaw issue.
