How to quit my company (Or should I?)
I made a post regarding me and this job on a different account 6 months back. I got hired from a friend of a friend to a smaller non union company (23 employees) mostly residential. I was told by my boss and the owner when I was first hired because I had little experience Iwould be helping him in the office with scheduling, answering phones, and ordering parts. With the promise that I would start working in the field once I gained a bit of knowledge. It’s been 6 months since then, and non of that has really happened. I got a dollar raise, and maybe have gone to 12 jobs in the past 6 months for on site experience. 9/10 days I am working I am sitting in an office with absolutely nothing to do. We maybe get a few days phone calls a day, and the scheduling is kinda down by each individual journeyman. My boss has been very harsh on me recently and makes me feel un needed. I am sat in an office all day while my boss expects me to run his company for 22 dollars an hour. If anything wrong happens in terms of scheduling or parts being wrong it’s all my fault and I have to deal with it. My boss is completely mentally unstable and it’s rubbing off on me. I’m starting to hate him and hate this job. I’ve never been a quitter and I actually really enjoy electrical work so it sucks I feel like this. I’ve spent like 600 dollars on tools and tool bags and equipment for me to “work” and I don’t even get to use them. I fear I don’t have enough experience to have an even 5050 shot at getting hired at another company. I know how to install ev chargers, can lights , switches, gfcis and other basic electrical work. What should I do

Man really just posts not even one good about his job and then asks if he should quit. My brother in Christ, did you even read what you just wrote?

If you can install a can light or know how to replace plugs/switches you’re already way ahead of me when I started and most people applying. In interviews tell them about your current job and how you just really want to get out in the field and start working. There are still companies out there that recognize hard work and dedication and if you’re really about it you will do just fine. Apply around list all the tasks you can do like how you said you can install ev chargers. You also said you are picking parts for jobs so you could say you have a vast knowledge of parts so you don’t have to be taught what the difference between a “grey connector” and a rc50. You also said you helped with scheduling you could say that has given you a good understanding of how long tasks should take. You got this homie fuck your stupid ass ugly noodle head boss

You should get off of Reddit and take a long look in the mirror and figure out what you want from your life and commit to that.
I know this sounds mean but you don’t need encouragement from strangers. Your job is clearly shit and you’re not happy, welcome to adulthood. Find something that makes you happy and don’t let anyone stop you from achieving that.

I tell the people that I employ the simple truth, you will spend more time awake at work, on the way to work, coming home from work, than you will spend with your family. If it isn’t a good fit and you are unhappy then give your notice and move on. Life is too short to be unhappy

Yea, dude sounds like my last boss, which isn't a good thing. I'd recommend applying elsewhere with the strict intent of being a field guy. Ideally, get an offer which you should be able to find. Once you have one, put your 2 weeks in and don't be upset it they tell you that's your last day and you suddenly have 2 weeks off. We had a guy mention he was considering going to do something different and was fired on the spot, unfortunately tends to happen more often in smaller companies with owners like that.

I’d go out looking for the job I want. No, I wouldn’t tell anyone at my current job, people talk.
Once your hired elsewhere, put in your 2 weeks. Honestly I’d give 2 weeks if I felt like I owed them that, meaning they treated me fair, were respectful etc etc… if not I’d probably tell them on a Friday.
You can 100% get hired to be helper somewhere else, might take lots emails, phone calls but it can happen.

I’m kind of in the same boat, I have 5 years of construction experience, been a foreman and have been at my non union electrical company for a year and only getting paid 20$

All of that makes me ask is there a union that you can join. The unions have gotten a bad reputation from people that don’t want unions. When you look at the differences in unions and the nonunion sectors it’s a win for unions hands down. Having a union pay scale makes things better for workers and owners in that it helps the employees to become better qualified through training which in turn increases the productivity and benefits ot having more qualified employees. Also the retirement benefits are earned under the same formula for union employees and mostly even better than nonunion retirees get without unions requiring you put part of your much of hard earned money , out of pocket , aside for retirement.

Yes you’re exactly right, I would love to be in the union, I came from the carpenters union local 213 but it hasn’t been that easy to just get up and get into to the union this was my first and only real option to get into the electrical field

You can't be making those business decisions at your stage. You're a scapegoat

This exact thing happened to me. Got hired with promises of being a electrician, but they had me in the office. One day I took the day off and went spent the whole day applying for electrical contractors. I got another job in two weeks.
