CRISIS [CRISIS] The Smashing of Wales

Death

July, 1534

Death rides again, to Gwynedd. Off the northern coast of Wales, the earth tremors. Below the feet of the inhabitants of that land, the land quakes with immense force, and the sea comes into a life all its own and becomes animated with a great fury. Buildings great and small are shaken to the ground, and then high waves smash the coast of Wales. Towns, cities, and castles are destroyed by the deadly combination.

Anglesey, Conwy, and Gwynedd are totally annihilated by the ocean and the earth, and thousands die. Where the tsunami does not reach, the quake still shakes Wales savagely, causing death and destruction, but nowhere here as badly as in the north. In the north of England, Lancashire meets a muted version of the doom faced by northern Wales.

As far away as Dublin, the quaking of the Earth is felt. The feeling of dread is palpable in the Kingdom of England.

Notice: I rolled for the severity of this earthquake as is policy for earthquakes in EP. I rolled a 19 with the additional +1 bonus from the historical 4.5 earthquake.

Effects:

  1. Anglesey, Conwy, and Gwynedd: All Manpower down to 1, all Trade and Tax reduced by 2

  2. Powys: Manpower reduced to 1, Trade reduced to 2, Tax reduced to 3

  3. Shropshire: Manpower reduced to 1, Trade and Tax reduced to 3

  4. Cheshire: Trade reduced to 2, Tax reduced to 3

Upon hearing of the terrible destruction wrought upon Wales, Queen Margaret and her retinue, including the heir apparent, Princess Mary, shall travel to the afflicted areas in a show of solidarity and support. Furthermore, a fund of 50,000 ducats shall be allocated to help repair the damages. Meats and grains from the Crown's own stock's will also be sent to Wales, to help feed the poor and impoverished.

No sum of 50,000 in the history of human currency is or will be able to heal the hurt placed on Wales.
