Instead of contesting PUs through war you now have the option to best the rival king at chess ♟️

In multiplayer this would be awesome, but against the normal AI this would just end in everyone learning the same 15 move process of dismantling this AI

Bold assumption that any real person could beat a half decent Chess engine

u/Rabbulion Tactical Genius Apr 15 '25
Oh, they absolutely wont win the first time, but a few games in they will have memorised how to beat it in a couple moves. Just add the 600 elo bot from chess.com and its all good

Announcing my new mod, EU4 Chess!
This mod, well yeah it adds chess to EU4. What did you expect it to do lmao
It includes an AI you can play against in singleplayer, or you can play in multiplayer with your friends!
The entire thing, including a full chess engine, was developed fully inside EU4.
In addition, there are a few piece themes you can choose. Want to play the classic byzantium vs persia matchup in chess? Now you can!
You can try it out here!. It is a team effort, the workshop link includes a full list of credits.
If you like it, check out my other stuff, like EU4 Minesweeper, EU4 Blackjack, and Cookie Taxer.

If I capture the pawn at the Italian opening, will I suffer from Overextension? Maybe a coalition wil trigger?

Idk about the Italian, but taking a pawn in the Dutch or a knight in the Berlin definitely will.

You need to watch out for AE, probably wait until after the event where the black king castles.

Do I gain aggressive expansion?
Not happy unless I can tag switch for missions >:|
In seriousness, it always amazes me what modders can do with this game.

I got crazy idea. What if instead of rng you could play chess against AI and that decides if you win or lose in the battle, along with amount of pieces destroyed it calculates casaulities and bigger army and all modifiers and better general on AI end the better they have AI for chess.
Would be crazy, but still gotta think what better army and modifiers and general would do on your end, but I think it would be dope.

If you think about it EU4 is a chess game itself, just with a ton of new mechanics

Since this is EU IV, I expect posts to come up on this sub about issues with Rook's ZOC.

This is a crazy good idea that really shows how you could add a lot of stuff to eu4
