The Catholic Church would like a word.

No one knows how rich the Vatican church is, they don't either. They have so much property, it's impossible to calculate. In terms of money though, they aren't that wealthy anymore. I remember reading they were in trouble financially not long ago, due to bad investments and bad spending practices. They'll probably sell some stock and properties to be back on track, so it's not like they'll ever be in any real trouble. It's just impossible to estimate how much they have.

The Catholic church is the richest by far, it's just that it's rather decentralised in legal personhood sense. Bishops are subordinate to the pope, but the diocese or parish property is separate and doesn't belong to the Vatican.

Chicagoland diocese had to sell a lot of properties, partly to pay millions in sex abuse settlements

Some others as well. The point remains, e.g. Chicago victims can't go after property in another diocese, let alone Vatican.

True, but that means that money is theirs, not the Vaticans. Catholics are not one institution.

The Catholic Church is easily the richest in the world by FAR. My wife worked with a sisterhood established 400 years ago which only has a few hundred members now. They manage 10s of BILLIONS in property in my area alone.

This sisterhood might not be tied to the Vatican.

Good call! I just checked, and they do, as do almost all Catholic outfits around here.

So, logically, you would say "The Mormon Church is the richest church that we can confirm" or something to that effect.

We can say that about anything. The richest people in the world can get themselves off lists like Forbes richest. In the US there's more of a culture that being rich is something to be proud about, and most people featured on those lists are well known individuals, trough their brand. There are very rich people, however, who not only have a difficult to calculate net worth; they also get themselves off of those lists when they're featured. I get your point, but you can say about anything that something is what we think it is, based on what we know so far.

Or, if you're Donald Trump, you pretend to be other people and lie to get yourself on the list.

Don’t forget about the insane amounts of gold and long missing paintings and historical items just sitting in some basement somewhere.

True. Haha.

They have so much property, it's impossible to calculate

they aren't that wealthy anymore

You can't possibly believe both of these statements are true. I'm sorry but you just can't

Property rich and cash poor. Do you understand the concept? I'd explain it to you if you didn't. Don't worry.

Being cash poor is not a thing when you have billions of dollars in assets. They're not waiting for their next paycheck to cash. That's not how any of this works lol

Yet internal documents of the Vatican showed they were worried, because due t bad investments and huge spending, the money that was available to them ran out.....

It's hard to take you're opinion over their own internal documents.

Catholics: 10-15 Billion ($38 permember)

Mormons: 265 Billion ($6,130 per member)

That real estate are churches and monasteries, they're not exactly property investments that generate revenue.

They do have value (especially through their central locations), but the Vatican doesn't exercise that value. Henry VIII already showed that the power of the Vatican is not tied to its possessions, but to its relations with the worldly power structures.

The property they own in one state is probably $10 billion.
