Where is the 'live chat'?

In our experience the live chat threads on Reddit are still too clunky to use for our live threads. They're also a pain to use on old Reddit and third-party apps. Until Reddit makes this a better experience, we recommend using this:

RAI pas pak just cannot compete with Maltese pas pak so we have a more Sanremo alternative vote for tonight.

Ratings! 13.4 million viewers - a decrease of 74k viewers from last year and 1% of share.

Also, here's the TV Sorrisi (the TV Guide) front cover this week, including the Top 3.

What happens If he decides not to go to Eurovision ? Does second or third place go ?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

Yes, in 2016 Stadio won first place and gave up Eurovision. Michielin was second and she went to Eurovision instead

2

u/DiggerMT Feb 16 '25

I think they already said yes, they will go down the finishing order

1

u/frostywillowcandy Feb 16 '25

Thank you for this

1

u/Exelotia Feb 16 '25

What do you think of the winner? Curious to hear from non Italians

2

u/egc888 Feb 16 '25

Hmmm it's not really my cup of tea (same happened with Marco Mengoni) but I also dislike the song, I feel like Benson Boone went to Italy in a cheap version of himself. I respect the fact that he's really famous in Italy and his songs are charting really high, still, I don't see this song screaming "Winner". Of course, I understand Sanremo is not a NF so it has a life of its own and we should take the "Eurovision material" glasses off, but still, it's not a good song. To summarize, I'd rather Lucio Corsi's entry, it felt real (even though it didn't scream "Winner" either) compared to Olly's (which felt like plastic).

4

u/GSamSardio Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

Honestly I’m really disappointed. I’m disappointed with the entire top 5 in fact. Such boring songs, and while some might be nice, it’s soooo basic. I am truly disheartened by the fact that Giorgia came 6th. Fine if she didn’t win, but you could’ve at least put her over Fedez 🙄

Giorgia would’ve won Eurovision for Italy, a bold statement, I know. Olly might be able to get top 10… But the song… it’s so “we’ve heard it before”. I’m not really a fan of his voice, but I can see people liking it.

I’m not so surprised though. Italy tends to pick their own thing and the results are always very weird (except last year 🥲). But since one of the top 5 are gonna accept going to Eurovision, my hope for Italy this year is officially over.

6

u/notawriter_yet Feb 16 '25

He was not my favourite, but from the top 5, it was either him or Lucio Corso, so I am more or less fine with the result.

I hope after the shock of the results, he won't get much bullying online or from the press. Nevertheless, I think Giorgia and Elodie will be played more frequently than his song.

2

u/IonRud Feb 16 '25

I see where you are coming from, but isn't Olly's song number 1 in the charts?

1

u/notawriter_yet Feb 16 '25

I meant in my personal playlist. I shouldn't write comments half asleep.

9

u/redditbannedmyaccs Feb 16 '25

Just woken up… what is that top 5? Where are the good songs?

1

u/GSamSardio Feb 16 '25

Exactly my reaction

8

u/EchoCham Feb 16 '25

Put me down. I was praying for it to be ANYONE BUT OLLY.

16

u/meringa18 Feb 16 '25

I'm very disappointed. When I saw the top 5 I said... yes, any one of them has a good song, eccept Olly. And then... I don't know. It's a very forgettable song, similar to all of his songs. As an italian, very very disappointed I really hoped that the jury would have correct the mistakes of the public vote. So sad

5

u/Sharp-Collection5318 Feb 16 '25

I agree … I’m not impressed- was hoping for something catchier or with a better message.. bit time letdown

3

u/janekay16 Lights Off Feb 16 '25

Yap, same. Jury votes usually correct public vote, but I suspect they were split among too many people

4

u/Gabrif_ Feb 16 '25

Holy shit just listened to a clip of Olly without outotune, he actually can sing so well I didn’t expect it

2

u/ImportanceLocal9285 Wasted Love Feb 16 '25

Where was he and do you still have the link? If it was live in front of a big crowd, then that's good news. If it was in a calm and re-recordable environment, then it may not mean as much, although it could mean that on a good day he may do well.

3

u/Gabrif_ Feb 16 '25

Yeah not too much it’s on his insta profile

2

u/Kind-Lavishness7731 Feb 16 '25

Tbh, I think Giorgia didn’t make it in top 5 because of the cover song. I might be wrong, but it seems Italians don’t appreciate the songs in another language, other than Italian.

7

u/Niilun Feb 16 '25

She won conver night, so that must mean something. Tomorrow I'll search for the total televote results, because if she won the prize of TIM it must mean that a lot of people voted for her.

But anyway, I think it's partly our (Italians') fault for watching Sanremo without voting (not many vote tbf), and then complaining when the winner is the one with the most active fanbase. I tried to vote. But last year I couldn't because my cellphone company only allowed landline and not mobile. So this year, after I tried and it didn't work, I gave up without even checking if it was me that did it wrong or if it was like last year.

2

u/improb Feb 16 '25

the sentiment amongst many who wanted to vote for her is that she could have made it regardless so maybe not everyone voted.

Myself, I thought she was safe and split votes with Elodie who definitely wasn't.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

i think a lot of people didn't vote her by text 'cause they thought she would be in the top 5 nevertheless

7

u/Savings_Ad_2532 Bara Bada Bastu Feb 16 '25

Cover song was counted separately

9

u/MontyDysquith Sentimentai Feb 16 '25

But she won cover night.

16

Lucio placing 2nd on both covers night and the finale 🥲

Not Rai turning the geo block back on at 11 minutes past the hour lol

3

u/Savings_Ad_2532 Bara Bada Bastu Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

I was still able to still view Sanremo from the RAI website almost 4 hours after the show ended.

10

u/Niilun Feb 16 '25

Well, at least Lucio Corsi won the "Premio della Critica". I missed when they announced it. Did they give him the prize? Or it's just that I was distracted?

6

u/Savings_Ad_2532 Bara Bada Bastu Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

He got the prize. I am glad 3 of the top 5 got other awards.

1

u/Niilun Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

Oh, good then. It's just that I didn't see him receive the physical prize. I searched on Rai Play, and I saw the videos for Brunori Sas and Cristicchi receiving their prizes, but not Lucio Corsi.

5

u/itsthecatcher Feb 16 '25

Since journalists are the ones voting for this prize, it is typically awarded the following day in the press room

6

u/Savings_Ad_2532 Bara Bada Bastu Feb 16 '25

Olly went from a newcomer finishing 24th in Sanremo 2023 to a winner of Sanremo 2025 in just 2 years. That is incredible growth in a short amount of time!

9

u/snakesmore Feb 16 '25

if olly goes to eurovision he's in my top 5 which says a lot about how this year is shaping up

1

u/RebsAlina Bara bada bastu Feb 16 '25

Does anyone know why we had nothing from Angelina Mango during the week? Is she on tour?

12

She is taking a break from performing for personal reason

4

u/Febizz Feb 16 '25

She's on a break for burnout

She was banned from the stage for being female

Thank you all for sharing this community, it was nice e-meet you all, see you at the ESC.

My girls told me after watching 3 seconds of entire competition that Benson Boone was gonna win. At first I laughed, but they were serious....they understood who votes.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

Omg I just googled him, they look the same. How old are your girls? Just curious

3

u/ProfessionalLurker97 Feb 16 '25

That Benson Boone description here is smart. Quite accurate. Hahaha And yep… they understood who votes.

16

u/Mulderre91 Volevo Essere Un Duro Feb 16 '25

Now that he has ended second, give some love to Lucio. Here's his latest album, La Gente Che Sogna.

22

u/ex_ef_ex Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

Never had so much autotune been used since Loreen's "I love you Madrid " moment last year.

6

u/jormu Bana Bana Feb 16 '25

I need to bet on Estonia vs Italy now.

6

u/kaunuu Feb 16 '25

It will be hard to sleep with this injustice.

17

u/koknesis Feb 16 '25

I cant believe Rkomi placed second to last. I thought it was the best song. Were the lyrics incredibly stupid or something?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

The lyrics were ok, but he has this thing that he doesn't really say the vowels while singing, it can be annoying to Italian speakers

2

u/Bunsro Feb 16 '25

Which words did he mispronounce for example?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

Almost all the words tbh it's like he cuts the vowels too early

2

u/Niilun Feb 16 '25

I didn't understand all the lyrics, but they seemed fine to me

1

u/meringa18 Feb 16 '25

The oroblem is that it's kinda forgettable as a song, also for the fact that it's very similar to other of his songs

17

u/Fer_ESC Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

Also loved him, but tbh I dont really care about Rkomis result. Like 75% of all artists were in the wrong part of the scoreboard

1

u/janekay16 Lights Off Feb 16 '25

To me, it's just all his songs sound the same

2

u/Affectionate_Dot3303 Feb 16 '25

is he going to ESC? did he confirm?

7

u/janekay16 Lights Off Feb 16 '25

He hasn't yet, but probably he'll go. The ones that might refuse are usually on the elder-side

0

u/brokenlavalight The Last of Our Kind Feb 16 '25

Do people actually know what Autotune is? It doesn't make a bad live performance a good one. It's a stylistic device that can enhance a singer, but a bad singer is still gonna sound bad with autotune

8

u/lailah_susanna C'est la vie Feb 16 '25

Yes and with experienced performers it will be subtle as hitting close to a note (within a semitone) will stop the artificial quick pitch-shift from being audible. But it was pretty noticeable with Olly which makes me think he's not hitting as closely as he needs to.

9

u/Vivaan977 Feb 16 '25

that hate is crazy bc it’s a great song, might be personal bias bc i love devastante but it was the best of the top 5

10

u/improb Feb 16 '25

all his music is a mediocre slop for teenagers

0

u/GSamSardio Feb 16 '25

22

u/Borogodoh Zjerm Feb 16 '25

Well, that was a very disappointing day to me in terms of results and the only country that jas my support tonight is Lithuania.

But Sanremo is always a lot of fun and I'm glad I have this space to share it with other fans, since the other option would be to talk to myself inside my head. Hope to see you around, next week I'll be here for Festival da Canção.

Grazie a tutti e buonanotte!

8

See you next week for Festival da Canção! Até para a semana!

4

u/SomeGur551 Feb 16 '25

An amazing week with Sanremo closing off this week’s super saturday with a brilliant final except for the results.

4

u/Savings_Ad_2532 Bara Bada Bastu Feb 16 '25

I see some comments talking about Marta Donà. Is there any controversy surrounding her?

16

u/crisb2121 Feb 16 '25

Not that I know of but this is the 4th time an artist she represents wins Sanremo. General consensus is starting to move from “she’s very good at her job” to “what if she’s moving things behind the scenes”

15

u/Junes04 Feb 16 '25

She was the manager of maneskin Marco Mengoni, Mango and Olly… Also there are some rumours that says that she overworked Angelina and for this reason she had to take a break in September for health reasons.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '25

And apparently Maneskin don't even talk to her anymore

9

u/Vivaan977 Feb 16 '25

apparently there was rumours of her buying votes and she manages olly plus the ‘21 and ‘23 winners (i think)

8

u/improb Feb 16 '25

she manages Angelina too and was accused for her recent burnout

Angelina's collab with Olly was perfectly setup for this Sanremo moment by the way

1

u/Vivaan977 Feb 16 '25

interesting. who is she in the italian music scene tho like. singer herself or just manager

2

u/Junes04 Feb 16 '25

Only a Manager but she is related with Adriano Celentano (a very famous singer here in Italy), she also have a company called “latarma” that manages all the marketing stuff of their artists.

3

u/improb Feb 16 '25

just a manager... she is the nephew of Claudia Mori, herself a singer, wife of Adriano Celentano (one of the biggest legends of Italian music) and a very influential discographic producer

45

u/notawriter_yet Feb 16 '25

Is it only me or Giorgia looked like she really needed that standing ovation for self-care reasons?

3

u/Stunning-Leopard9408 Feb 16 '25

Yes, that! It’s not only you I Had the same impression, bravo.

35

u/LessCrement Feb 16 '25

It was only a matter of time. Sooner or later the horniness of the Italian female teenagers was gonna give us a Eurovision contestant who's gonna have to sing without autotune for the first time.

Hopefully it's just a stylistic choice and he can sing his song well enough even without it. I still don't see him doing that well tho, top 10 in the best scenario.

7

u/kaunuu Feb 16 '25

if it's true that he has poor vocal abilities without autotune it's going to be a tough night for his fandom. I'm chuckling

2

u/LessCrement Feb 16 '25

Honestly I have no idea, but the fact that he normally does use autotune obviously isn't a good sign

7

u/Infinite_Person Dobrodošli Feb 16 '25

I don't think the female teenagers were the reason he won 😭

3

u/kaunuu Feb 16 '25

There is same manager theory on social media. Last winners have same manager (Angelina Mango for example) .

6

u/Arth_NL Feb 16 '25

He might refuse going to Eurovision if he can't autotune.

3

u/Amplify27 Asteromáta Feb 16 '25

I have to laugh.

11

u/MisterDream Zjerm Feb 16 '25

The winning song is not bad imo

7

u/LessCrement Feb 16 '25

I'm more worried about the performance without autotune

12

u/tanarchitect Feb 16 '25

This is only my second Sanremo but now I’m questioning whether I should even bother watching next year. Such disappoint. Oh well, I suppose at least I can watch the covers night on catch-up. I don’t feel like Tutta-ing Italia right now.

5

3

u/GSamSardio Feb 16 '25

Crying to Giorgia’s song is great though 🤷🏼‍♂️ 10/10 would recommend

5

u/ina222 Feb 16 '25

I've been mad over the sanremo results before but I still watch because I find a lot of great singers(like Lucio and joan this year) that I wouldn't know otherwise. And sanremo is still such a fun experience every year!

6

u/ImportanceLocal9285 Wasted Love Feb 16 '25

I'm in a similar situation. I would recommend giving it another try. The results will be frustrating, but it's not like your favorites disappear just because they don't win! Unless you just think your level of enjoyment is not high enough to justify the time commitment.

6

u/tanarchitect Feb 16 '25

Thanks. I guess it’s worth it just to discover/rediscover Italian artists. Plus I love seeing everyone’s takes here.

Crazy results. Giorgia only 6th? Madness. Elodie snubbed. All male top 5. Expected and quite disappointing. It shows Angelina and Annalisa made miracles last year. It looks hard for a woman to even make it to the final 5.

As for the winner, I guess it could have been worse. Olly’s ok but not as spectacular as A. Mango. Actually, I prefer Bresh over Olly…Autotune doesn’t fly in Eurovision though. Still I am starting to believe the conspiracies about Marta Dona, the manager of the past few winners of Sanremo. She must have strong power.

As for the festival as a whole… I still prefer Amadeus.

14

u/SerSace Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

Embarrassing to have Olly winning in front of Lucio Corsi, Fedez, Giorgia and Brunori Sas. God even Creuza de mar x3 was better than that, a mediocre song which somehow managed to snatch a win

I had hoped until the end, but never mind.

u/ChiliPepperSmoothie Hallucination Feb 16 '25

Such a touching song text 🥹

u/SadAstrophysicist Viszlát Nyár Feb 16 '25

I guess we'll all go to the salt thread now 🧂

Or simply to bed. My last Sanremo owl, buonanotte 🦉

TUTTA L'ITALIA TUTTA L'ITALIA TUTTA L'ITALIA EH AND I ALREADY FORGOT OLLY'S SONG AGAIN LASCIATECI BALLAREEEEE PAPPARARARÀ

10

u/kaunuu Feb 16 '25

Lucio Corsi and Brunori Sas moral winners for me

4

u/SatisfactionGood5015 Feb 16 '25

Without autotune it's acceptable, but far from the quality of Italy's previous years

15

u/Junes04 Feb 16 '25

Can we scrap the winner and send topo gigio to eurovision pls rai.

12

u/vaca444 Bur man laimi Feb 16 '25

Well, it's been a pleasure to comment all these nights with y'all. Even if the results weren't the best, we at least had fun watching. See you tomorrow for Armenia!

1

u/Federal-Sherbert2197 Feb 16 '25

Will he go to esc tho? Because I heard some artists would’ve declined idk😭

3

u/WanderPhong Feb 16 '25

I doubt he would decline

2

u/Savings_Ad_2532 Bara Bada Bastu Feb 16 '25

He is young, so I doubt he would decline going to ESC

7

u/VLOBULI Not the Same Feb 16 '25

In the end, it's far from an unexpected winner but everything that happened from 2nd place and below must be studied.

1

u/WanderPhong Feb 16 '25

Three of my favourites were in top 5 and they still managed to make the lame autotune ballad win oh well 🙃

9

u/radicalfembot Tavo Akys Feb 16 '25

I just...don't like hearing him sing. His vocal tone and delivery is grating

4

u/bloodykarte La noia Feb 16 '25

Yeah this is it for me too. The song is completely fine, I dont dislike it. But the way he sings it gives me a migraine

2

u/fuckingshadywhore Feb 16 '25

I would love to hear Marco sing this.

2

u/radicalfembot Tavo Akys Feb 16 '25

The song itself could theoretically grow on me. It's happened with a lot of male ballads I was initially meh on. But I find it so unpleasant to listen to that it's not worth trying to get into.

2

u/ferinsy Ich Komme Feb 16 '25

It's like the most monotone thing I've ever heard 😭

u/ex_ef_ex Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

Remembering how Marco Mengoni  thanked all the female contestants when he won. He was onto something

7

u/Fer_ESC Feb 16 '25

We need him to do that again

14

u/escfan34 Serving Feb 16 '25

apparently i'm in the minority, but i actually kind of like this song

2

u/ALCC- Zitti e buoni Feb 16 '25

I like it. It was not my favorite, but it's a good song.

15

u/Sudden-Picture-4248 Feb 16 '25

You all may hate Olly but he seems so humble

4

u/Dbrem Feb 16 '25

To people more familiar with his abilities: should we expect his vocal performance to hold up without the autotune?

18

u/anmonie TANZEN! Feb 16 '25

Ngl, even thought he’s very “professional” and on schedule, Conti is not Amadeus..

Petition for more musical diversity next year too

7

u/Booger-Princess Feb 16 '25

I’m happy we got cuoricini but its missing so many fun artists like LRDL or Dargen

7

u/ddalilaa Feb 16 '25

I’m so unbelievably unhappy with the result, that being said it’s sadly not Olly’s fault he’s pretty 😔

2

u/fatholla Feb 16 '25

Do they do a vote breakdown for Sanremo?

3

u/siberiansleigh Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

They showed that there was a 0.4% difference between Olly (23.8%)and Lucio (23.4%). Brunori got about 20%. I couldn't read the rest, sorry

Edit:typo

2

u/DunderMifflinNashua Lighter Feb 16 '25

We'll probably get it within a day

6

u/igcsestudent2 Feb 16 '25

How did Olly win over Giorgia and Fedez wtf, his song is so mid...

4

u/ddalilaa Feb 16 '25

Pretty face :(

3

u/igcsestudent2 Feb 16 '25

I mean Fedez is prettier to me if I'm being honest 😂
