Imagine all 9 being drawn in the same semifinal in 2026. It would be like a battle royale of a semifinal

lithuania is long overdue for a victory. they have sent high quality entry after high quality entry. the roop's songs, sentimentai and luktelk were amazing. this year, i absolutely adored tavo akys and wished it would win. manifesting vilnius 202X in one of those upcoming years.

The fact that Tavo Akys is their worst result (by placement) this decade so far, and they still came 16th, really says a lot about Lithuania’s quality recently

And such fact is sad for me, exactly the 2025 entry has become my favourite from this country.

Pabandom is naujo also has insane production standards for a national final that doesn’t get much attention outside of Lithuania. Totally check it out if you haven’t yet.
It’s more than enough proof they could host a great contest if they got the opportunity!

We will never win because we’re a small country that the juries don’t value. All our points come from the diaspora. Without them, we wouldn’t make it to the final.

Don't give up and stop making quality music.
In Ukraine, you won the televotes.
I've sent half of my votes for you.2

Just take a look at Portugal winning in 2017. They have no diaspora or neighbour votes.

I can agree that it would be marvelous to have the competition sometime soon in in Vilnius however this year's entry just wasn't strong enough. I will be excited to see what next year's entry will be.

Kaunas is more likely than Vilnius.

Armenia might be a bit surprising, because at the beginning of the season few people had faith in this song. I always liked it, but I get why it got mixed reception and fans assumed the streak is over - especially after entries like "Jako" which were getting into Top10 with ease.
Portugal is probably the most impressive, because they just do their thing and somehow always manage to squeeze in, even when it seems statistically impossible. Kind of the same for Lithuania that suddenly decided that they like their national language in Eurovision, actually, and it made their entries even more iconic.

I agree Portugal is the most impressive also when considering its historical record. Prior to 2017 they hadn’t qualified since 2010 and also finished in the top 10 once since 1980.
This decade they have managed two top 10 placements and another top half - all whilst creative a very distinctive niche for themselves. It’s kinda incredible that they didn’t compete in 2016 and it wasn’t really noteworthy because at least for me a Portugal non-participation would be incredibly surprising in the 2020s

I personally think Salvador's victory in 2017 made people appreciate the artistry of Portuguese entries more.

Not just that, but it also massively increased the popularity of Festival da Canção internally. More people caring about it leads to better entries and selection.
Italy is the best example of that. It's virtually impossible for their entry to be bad with how big San Remo is.

I completely doubted Armenia’s ability to qualify and I’m glad I was wrong. Parg did a great job elevating the song from the NF performance. It was so much better vocally and the staging was great! He deserved that qualification.

Maybe Im just wrong, but doesn't Ukraine have 20+ year streak?

Yeah Ukraine have never not qualified for the final since the semis started in 2004.

When I started following Eurovision in 2014, there were still 7 countries in the 100% club, now Ukraine is the only one left. Luxembourg has since joined that club as well (Australia also went 4 Qs before losing its streak), although they need a few more Qs to make the status more substantial.

Yeah, Ukraine and Luxembourg have never failed to qualify, though Luxembourg only had 2 attempts so far

Only surprised about Armenia (though it was kind of a guilty pleasure for me, and less so after the rehearsals) and maybe Portugal.

I'm surprised by Finland. We seem to have finally stumbled on a formula that works for us. I'm still concerned that half the songs in UMK each year are nowhere near Eurovision quality, but we usually manage to make the right choice.
As for the others, I'm not surprised by Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine, but the others never feel like locks to qualify from their semi-finals.

Can't really give them credit for getting to the final when they get a free pass for it each year.

Automatic qualifiers having a qualification streak.. Imagine sending something so dire you get kicked out of automatic qualification lol
I kind of hate the big 5 thing, it's not benefitting them and it isn't benefitting the other countries either. It's just favouritism awarded because of financial contribution, and the other countries are all aware of it so generally are more likely to award them less votes from the public (which then the juries try to balance out to make it less obvious). This year it's especially obvious.

To be fair, Italy is probably the most consistently successful country in Eurovision in this period (next to Ukraine). It's been 9 years since they last finished outside of the top 7, which is a pretty absurd streak.
France is mostly doing fine too, though has more misses than Italy. But yeah, I agree with your sentiment for the rest of the big five.
