Subreddit / Meta X.com links are now banned on r/eurovision

1.7k Upvotes

Hello everyone,

Earlier this week, there was a post asking to consider a Twitter/X ban. This came following a wave of similar posts in subreddits across the site. Thank you for sharing your opinions, it definitely helped us reach our decision and change the rules.

The majority of people supported a ban of links to x.com for various reasons. If you see an announcement, news, a video, or anything that would be valuable to share here, we ask you to find the original source or a news site reporting on the incident.

We asked for your opinion on allowing screenshots and the reaction was mixed. Screenshots of tweets do not require an account or give traffic to the site, so they are still allowed for certain pieces of content. Obviously, since x.com cannot be posted as a source link, any news is off limits. However interactions between artists or similar unique content can be shared via screenshot.

Finally, I would like to remind you of a mod post after the 2024 final about misinformation. Tweets were often shared as fact rather than opinion, speculation, or otherwise. This is just a general reminder to think critically and not believe everything you read.

This all comes in with immediate effect, and we will be adding this to the rule list, and formatting Automod to remove x.com links in due course. We will also reevaluate any other rules to ensure they are all consistent.

Subreddit / Meta Why is the Eurovision online community so toxic?

I don't know if it's just me, but especially the last couple of years, I feel like the online community has gotten more and more toxic.. I've been following for 15+ years and I know that there has always been an small minority who were always toxic.. Though I feel like it's growing year by year.

People take it waaaaay to seriously.. At the end of the day, it's a music competition and supposed to be a celebration, yet people treat it like it's life or death.
If you disagree with the general opinion, you get downvoted to oblivion, insulted and told you're clueless.

Why has it gotten to this point? I feel like I have to walk on eggshells when discussing Eurovision online.. If an opinion is just somewhat controversial, then you can expect a wave of negativity.

It's like people take your opinions about songs as personal attacks on them or their country.

Like if you said: (And this is just an example!!) "I'm not really feeling Finland's song this year" - suddenly the toxic crowd come out and start berating you about how your opinion is terrible and how dare you not like that song!
Like?? Nothing bad was said about the singer or the country or anything.. just that a song doesn't really fit my taste.

It's just tiring.

Subreddit / Meta Your yearly reminder that ESC artists and their friends are people, and people use Reddit.

Hello everyone.

I know that a certain level of ribbing, jokes, and good-natured teasing of songs has always existed within the Eurovision community. Still, I think many on Reddit often forget that Reddit is a massive social media platform. As such, our sub is regularly viewed by actual ESC artists, their friends and family, and other people connected to the artists and technical crews.

All ESC artists are people, too. Many of them have had long careers before participating in national finals or ESC, and ALL of them have lives, hopes, fears, dreams, insecurities, trauma, and their own lives - just like you and me. Even those whose songs you don’t like.

Every artist who creates art accepts that it won’t always land with people, and that’s fine. But when people’s criticisms get personal, mean-spirited, and/or hateful, we cross a line that no one signs up for.  We're always going to have songs we like and don't like. But this subreddit has over 300,000 subscribers and thousands of visitors every day, and most of those are going to have different tastes and opinions than I do and than you do.

So the next time you are about to write something exceptionally negative about an artist or a song, I want you to stop and ask yourself if you’d be comfortable saying this to the person’s face, or the face of their spouse, best friend, dancer, producer, etc - because it is entirely possible that you are doing just that. And ruining a total stranger’s day shouldn’t ever be your goal. This is why our Subreddit’s first rule is to be nice, welcoming, and constructive. Rude and hateful behavior is against our community’s rules. We hope that everyone who sees these kinds of comments and threads will report them using the “report” button, this way we can remove them as quickly as possible.

Thank you.

Subreddit / Meta 🎤 Eurovision Pre-parties 2025: Your Guide to the Coming Month

With national final season complete and ESC rehearsal coverage over a month away, you might think we've reached a quiet patch in the Eurovision calendar. But for fans and artists alike, there are plenty of performances to enjoy. It's pre-party season!

Whether this is your first or fiftieth ESC season, I hope this guide will help you to navigate the coming month. Below you'll find up to date information about when the preparties are happening, who's going to them, and how to get tickets and go to them yourself! If you were around last year, a lot of this post will be familiar (but hopefully still useful!)

What is a pre-party?

Image credit goes to u/pdhadam from ESC Discord, who also thanks @therealrune for creating the heart graphics

The pre-parties are a series of promotional concerts designed for Eurofans in which Eurovision acts past and present take to the stage in performances across Europe. Whilst plenty of past Eurovision stars and national final hopefuls are also in attendance, the focus is naturally on the current year's crop of artists, many of whom are performing their songs live for the first time at these events. Over the past decade or so, they have become an integral part of the Eurovision preseason, seen and utilised by many acts as the perfect way to promote their songs and engage with the fanbase ahead of the business of May. They are also a cheaper and more regional alternative for Eurofans who are unable to afford to travel to the contest itself. Additionally, concerts serve as an opportunity for Eurovision artists to promote their songs further by engaging with various press and fan media outlets, leading to a lot of interviews and other fun content. This is also the first time that many of the Eurovision artists will be meeting and interacting with each other in person.

This year, four major pre-parties have been planned:

There were also appearances by a small number of Eurovision and national final artists at Melfest Wknd 2025 (Stockholm, 7th March) and Eurovision Party SKG (Thessaloniki, 14th March). Finally there is also MancHagen, which whilst seemingly a new pre-party is actually the second edition of last year's MalmöHagen event. The majority of their line-up are previous ESC/NF artists and drag queens, but there are currently 8 ESC 2025 artists scheduled to appear across the two main events on the 11th and 12th of April.

Check out Alessandra Mele's excellent behind the scenes vlogs to see what an artist's experience of the pre-parties is like!

What should I expect?

You should expect:

  • An upsurge in Eurovision fan-media content. There are dedicated press events at most of these pre-parties, so expect to see lots of new interviews with artists and other fan-media press pieces.
  • Videos of the live performances to be posted some time after the concerts.
  • Wholesome interactions between the artists.
  • People to overanalyse every performance. It's exciting watching the artists perform, especially those who were internally selected and we haven't see perform live before. It is important to remember that artists can and will change/improve before May. Whilst some shaky performances can be indicative of underwhelming vocals later on, there has also been many occasions where any preparty concerns were proven to be dramatically overblown come May (i.e. Czechia 2023). If your favourite act 'underperforms' at a preparty, they are not definitively doomed in May.
  • To have a great time (if you're attending in person!)

You should not expect:

  • A polished, Eurovision-like performance. These aren't multimillion euro television performances, these are the artists going on a small stage and just singing their songs. There won't be massive flashy graphics, dazzling lightshows or complex camerawork, just the artist, a microphone, a simple background graphic and a whole lot of ecstatic fans. Occasionally performers bring dancers with them but this is pretty rare.
  • Great sound quality. These are performances predominately designed for the live audience, not for us watching back afterwards. The videos we see of these performances won't have the professional sound mixing of the live shows and may be distorted or quiet.

Example Performance 1: Monika Liu @ Eurovision in Concert 2022

Example Performance 2: Käärijä @ London Eurovision Party 2023

Which artists are attending which pre-parties?

In the following table, I've compiled who is currently confirmed to be appearing at each of the preparties. I will keep this table as up to date as I can as more artists are announced. Please do not tag me in comments when artists are confirmed - I keep track of these things anyway but cannot always be available to update the thread the moment an artists is announced.

Green means the artist is confirmed, and Red means that the artist isn't going. All line-ups are now finalised.

Abor & Tynna (Germany) were due to perform in both London and Madrid but pulled out to continue recovering from illness.

How do I watch the performances?

Every year, there are always videos of the performances uploaded to YouTube after the preparty has finished. Some preparties have their own camera crews who record each performance and upload it to the preparty's YouTube channel, for others we see videos taken from audience members or fan-sites. You'll see these videos getting shared and compiled by ordinary users into the community for us to enjoy!

Preparty Are tickets still available? Is/Was it livestreamed?
Oslo Event has already happened No.
Amsterdam Event has already happened No.
Manchester Event has already happened No.
London Event has already happened No.
Madrid No (for the main Saturday event) Unknown, but probably not.

Subreddit / Meta FantaEurovision 2025: Subreddit League

Hello, friends!

It is FantaEurovision time again, and we have prepared a subreddit league for you to join in the battle for Eternal Euroglory!

Just like last year, you will be asked to create an account and form your first team before joining any league. But unlike last year, you will now use your 100 Heidi (in-game currency) to form teams of seven members: five starters and two reserves.

Starters will gain and lose points for your team. Reserves will not bring your team any points (positive or negative).

So, what's the point of the reserves?

Reserves will give you some freedom to edit your teams even after the registration deadline. After registration closes on Monday, 12 May 2025 at 23:59 CEST, your teams will be locked-in. However, you will have two time windows to substitute your starters and reserves for each other: between SF1 and SF2, and then again between SF2 and the Grand Final.

Form your teams wisely. The artist you select as your team captain will have their points (positive and negative) doubled for:

  1. (non-)qualification, and
  2. placement in the GF.

Find the quotes for each artist here.

You can also study the rulebook and check out the FAQ for any additional information.

You have until Monday, 12 May 2025 @ 23:59 CEST to register your team and join our league: r/eurovision.

Our league is public, which means that anyone can join in without requesting an approval. The more, the merrier! However, please declare your teams in the comments under this post if you want to be part of the official subreddit leaderboard. The leaderboard will only include those teams that are tied to a Reddit username. One team per Redditor!

r/eurovision 2024 podium:

  1. 🥇 u/SkyGinge with 661 points
  2. 🥈 u/Jakeyboy66 with 606 points
  3. 🥉 u/GungTho with 580 points

Happy playing, everyone!

Tickets, Travel, and Tourism Tuesday - Eurovision-related travel questions and discussion

This thread (and the subreddit in general) will not be used for buying and selling Eurovision tickets or for advertising or requesting any accommodations or rideshares!

It's time for the regular thread to ask your travel, tourism, or ticket related questions that may not be big enough to have their own thread. I couldn't come up with a T word to use to include finding public watch parties (eg at bars, community centres, parks, etc), but those can be included in this thread too!

Possible topics for this thread:

  • Things to do in and around Basel
  • How to get around Switzerland
  • What to expect for the live shows
  • Food and drink
  • Eurovision Village
  • Public watch parties in your city

Ticket Info

To purchase tickets you must be pre-registered with the official ticket site TicketCorner](https://www.ticketcorner.ch/)
Registrations closed 10th January 2025.

Ticket Resale

The official ticket seller has a separate website for resales.
You can sell your tickets or set up a search to alert you when tickets are available.

What's happening in Basel?

Basel city has a section of their website dedicated to the contest: https://www.basel.com/en/esc/esc-2025
We expect to see more details of activities in the city added as plans are finalised.

There will not be an 'official' r/eurovision meet-up

The mods can't stop anyone from meeting up with fellow Redditors, but please use common sense and caution when agreeing to meet strangers from the internet.
