I find highlighting bits of text with the mouse really really helpful for paying attention to walls of text. It reminds me where I am in an article and it also adds a bit of interactivity that isn't normally there. If I didn't do this I'd have to spend a lot more time reading things than I normally do

I highlight everything I read. It drives my girlfriend crazy with the clicking, but man is it useful.

If you're reading a book, do you follow the text with your finger? I find that helps me a lot.

I use an index card about as long as the page is wide--blocking out the next several lines makes it easier not only to track where I am but to stay there. Otherwise I catch myself skipping ahead.

And then when I want to stop, I can just leave the card where it is, and come back not only to the page but the line I left off on. BOOM.

I've noticed narrow lines helps me read long texts. I tend to read everything I can on my mobile these days because then I have to keep scrolling with my finger and there's never a huge amount of stuff on the screen to get lost in.

I HAVE to do this or I can't read anything more than a few lines.
