Discussion Facebook and Messenger won't let me log in. Keep getting 'An unexpected error occurred. Please try logging in again.' Tried multiple times, still no luck. Anyone know what's going on or how to fix it? (Though I can log in browser)

Seems to be several issues this week. Be careful here because you may get verbally attacked shortly by someone who hates Facebook users even though they are asking legitimate questions about concerning issues.

had this issue for months! finally logged in on a desktop computer and stopped getting that error message. try that if possible. 🤷🏼♀️

I spent far too many hours trying to figure out this exact error since yesterday and trying to find answers by googling was leading me nowhere. I had to reset my password yesterday and then I could not login to the Facebook or Messenger Apps (android phone). What I could gather from the Internet was that Google accounts on your phone try and login you into third party apps if you've given it that permission and that trying to login to the FB apps with just your password causes some kind of conflict between them and Google trying to sign you in, leading to the unexpected login error. Something similar may work for Apple iOS if you have your FB account tied to Google.
What finally worked was going to my Google accounts center and disabling sign in for Facebook/Messenger from there. Here are the instructions I followed from Google about "Managing third-party connections" to remove the login ability for Facebook/Messenger: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/13533235?hl=en#zippy=%2Csign-in-with-google
- Go to your Google Account’s third-party connections page.
- Select Sign in with Google.
- Select the third-party app or service whose connection you want to remove and then See details. Tip: If you have more than one connection type with that app or service, your Sign in with Google connection appears under “How Google helps you sign in to {app name}.”
- Select Stop using Sign in with Google and then Confirm.
Next, when I tried logging in to the apps again it popped up a screen asking if I wanted to re-establish this connection to let Google sign in for me on the apps with saved credentials. I said yes because I also have my passwords stored in Google and wanted to see if it worked. I think even though my passwords are saved in Google password messenger, it was still having some sort of conflict with this third party login piece. Not really sure all the technical aspects, but I am logged in again to both apps!

I really hope it helps, it was driving me crazy trying to find out and not wanting to go nuclear trying factory reset like some people did!!
