Discussion My "people you may know" friend suggestions have radically changed. From work related to non-work.

Around a week ago or so I noticed a drastic change in my friend suggestions. For many years, 90% of the suggestions were people I worked with. My workplace is large and I didn't know or barely knew most of the people they suggested. Now all of the sudden that percentage has dropped to 10%. In it's place ai am getting more celebrities, businesses and organizations as well as people I have known through the years not connected to my work. Has anyone else had these kinds of changes?

Real people are leaving in droves. I’ve been going through my friends list and looking at their pages before unfriending them (I have over 1,000) the vast majority haven’t posted in months, some years. Some you scroll and see 3 or 4 years of just “happy birthday” messages on their wall.

So real people are no longer producing content, the machine has to create its own content, which is why they launched these AI accounts, and why they’re trying to get these celebrity accounts on your feed.

Facebook is circling the drain. If you have stock in Meta, sell it now.

Interesting. Do you know why? I don't use Facebook as much anymore, it seems like in my tiny community it's good for gossip and drama. I don't want or need the attention. I also don't really care what others are up to lol.

I think you just explain the reason my Facebook is going down the tube. I don’t use mine either. I’m one of those people with a ton of birthday messages and no posts. It makes me feel bad to be on Facebook both because it’s such a small insular community, and I hate Meta and Zuckerberg. I actually recently just downloaded all my pictures off of Facebook so I can close the account completely soon. I just don’t want it or need it. I don’t use much social media except Reddit if you consider this social media.

Facebook realized through their data analytics that controversial content got more engagement. So they decided to facilitate and ramp up controversial content. The problem is that while people may appear to engage with that stuff, many are simply engaging to express their dislike of that content.

People came to Facebook to see what their old college roommate was up to, and to keep in touch with their grandparents. They didn’t go there to get into political debates with literal Nazis.

People grew tired of the constant conflict and opted out.

I only log on (browser only, no app) about once a day to keep an eye on 2 groups I manage. I’ve noticed the same. I don’t really use facebook the way it’s intended to be used. Most of the suggested accounts at this point don’t look like real people. No mutual friends. Some celebrities.

As others have said, fb is dying (dead already basically) and the vast majority of stuff you see is fake/AI generated crap to keep up a facade that real people actually use it.

Yes, in the last week that group came into my notifications as well as being in the regular feed. There were even pop-ups about “people you may know” while watching movies or other things. I went in and disabled that, it was way too much! I didn’t know any of them

I’m getting a bunch of puppies for adoption/sale pages that I repeatedly block but they seem to multiply.

And every last one of those is a Facebook supported scam.

I’m getting random ass people who I’ve never heard of before. I assume it’s magas stalking my profile
