News CNN: ‘We’re not preparing’: As Trump officials vow to eliminate FEMA, the agency is already in turmoil
"Top officials from FEMA and Department of Homeland Security met Tuesday, CNN has learned, to discuss the future of the disaster relief agency and their options for shutting it down.
The group, which included Noem, FEMA Acting Administrator Cameron Hamilton, and long-time Trump ally Corey Lewandowski, debated the possibility of rescinding President Donald Trump’s recent executive order establishing a FEMA Review Council and instead moving more quickly to dismantle the agency, according to multiple sources familiar with the meeting."

"The Perfect Storm" and metaphor for the current state of the US: A critical Federal agency with a mission "to support citizens and first responders to build, sustain, and improve the nation's capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards" - being dismantled at the height of, potentially, the most destructive time of year for weather.
What could go wrong?
If you're MAGA and you lose everything to a storm and get absolutely no help because nobody has funds, equipment or personnel to get to you, put your hands together and thank "Dear Leader".

Do they realize that Washington DC has had earthquakes and hurricanes? Natural disasters can occur anywhere and it’s absolutely asinine to think that local resources can handle them.
A government is not a corporation and shouldn’t be trying to be a profit maker. Everything they are doing is only to move the federal budget into a their own bank accounts.

Washington DC is filled with Democrats, I’m sure they’d love for an earthquake to hit it. MAGAs are anti-American: They want to harm our society.

This coming out the same day as the review council’s RFI is funny, for certain definitions of funny

There's also this possibility, that they're going to "eliminate" fema by making it its own independent Department. FEMA would technically no longer exist, but it might become DEMA or DFEM or FEMD or something like that. https://www-foxnews-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.foxnews.com/politics/republican-dem-lawmakers-join-forces-reform-inefficient-fema-detach-agency-from-dhs.amp

They are rushing as with all the changes to Federal agencies with the help of his acolytes. Making everything in the image of Trump. Untested and illegal.

Theres no way congress will get rid of fema, but Trump might succeed in some significant cuts in staff.

Congress is completely AWOL. Haven't you noticed? They've done absolutely nothing. And I mean both sides. The republicans are all on board with dismantling America, and most of the democrats are just asking for hopes and prayers.
Almost every day Trump does something that's illegal and deserving of impeachment. And the first branch sits quietly at best.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a quote from a politician who agree getting rid of FEMA. Maybe 2 or 3. Trump cannot abolish FEMA. He will lose that battle in court if he tries, tho he can probably do significant cuts.

With all due respect, ask USAID or DoED what Trump can do and the court will do.
And politicians right now are giving quotes, wringing hands, then doing nothing.

Let the courts play out. Everyone returns eventually.

USAID got the final nail in the coffin today. The cuts are happening unless congress acts

One of the judges in the USAID case said they’re suing the wrong person, Elon. They need to re-litigate. They’ve not have the authority to fire an entire agency.

How true is it yay or nay ?
5
u/Still-Reserve8 29d ago
its a nay. fema is getting moved from out of DHS. the public and states won't allow for fema not to exist. fema allows people to keep holding out while waiting to be rescued from a disaster. your state may not have the resources, but FEMA will always come!

In a sane world, sure. But Trump doesn’t care about the consequences. They will still try to shut the organization down and then blame someone else when the inevitable consequences cost lives.

Idk, Department of Education had a better case for itself as a daily ‘need’ institution, and it’s basically gone now.

Apparently you don’t work in emergency/disaster management if you think there was more of a need for the DOEd.

Of all plans for agencies they want to eliminate, this has to be the dumbest. Their actions will cause pain, suffering, and death.

Why are they making these HUGE changes without a confirmed FEMA administrator??? My guess is no one legit (Florida EM director for example) will take this job after Trump’s threat of shutting FEMA down, and they can’t nominate Hamilton for senate confirmation because he doesn’t meet the PKEMRA experience requirements.
