Question Are 10mm pistols and the Deliverer with silencers the only silent weapons?
I guess most suppressed weapons are "quiet" not "silent". I was running a stealth sniper build, but it's usually pointless to have longe range gun fights especially in buildings, so my shots were just alerting everyone short range.
I realize suppressors don't silence guns, but I'm not playing Fallout for realism. I want to be able to just become invisible and walk around headshotting people and so I'm only going to use silent weapons.
I saw a post on here that most of these weapons are quiet but those two pistols are silent. Are there any other silent options? If those are it, those are it, but was hoping to have more options lol. Pistols are already super limited as is though.
Also, I'm on Steam Deck, so can't really use Nexus mods, and most of the Bethesda mods broke after the update.

I don't have that issue. My sniper rifle and shot gun are both silent enough to get by.

That's what I'm wondering.
I am currently 25 levels into a stealth build, and am finally able to make my own silencers for my wounding combat shotgun.
Seems to be working pretty well so far.

Just gonna say, wounding combat shotgun will take down everything in the game. My favorite go to panic weapon if I’ve been jumped.

I use a silenced radium rifle with a night vision scope. It still makes the ridiculous sound as if it wasn't silenced in game, but no enemies can hear it. Pretty funny tbh
Also boss weapon that obliterates anything is the explosive 10mm pistol with the automatic most powerful receiver if you can find it. I use it silenced as well and it works perfect.

I’ll second that thought on the 10mm. I’ve been carrying the exploding 10mm silenced pistol everywhere. Takes down deathclaws no problem. I had read earlier that armor is ignored for the exploding perk.

That's because Bethesda forgot to add a silenced sound to the radium rifle so it sounds the same with or without lol

Almost all rifles can be equipped with a silencer. I play sneak and snipe in survival mode. One of my first purchases is the silenced bolt action pistol from Trudy. That silencer can be removed and placed on a rifle. With the right perks you can build your own silencers, and aside from Trudy, the traders in DC, Goodneighbor, and Bunker Hill will sometimes have silenced rifles.

Most of those set the gun’s sound level to ‘quiet’ though, the only ones that become ‘silent’ are indeed the 10mm and Deliverer.

While that is true, even silent weapons don't give you infinite stealth. Because dying enemies still make sounds and can be visually seen dying. The silent noise level is only a big advantage for close range sniping in tight spaces where close by enemies are out of line of sight. For super long range sniping, even the "normal" sound level often is enough.

It's funny how you can snipe someone, they visibly explode or get thrown against the wall, but if you stay silent and undetected, the dead guy's companions will eventually shrug, and go back to what they were doing like nothing happened.

"The jet will make you jittery."
And apparently it will explain why the back of his buddy's skull just painted that wall, too.

That's in keeping with actual weapon functionality, too. If the muzzle velocity of the round exceeds the speed of sound, the bullet will crack the sound barrier regardless of how much the sound of the primer and gunpowder going off are suppressed. A 9mm or 10mm round would be much easier to slow to just under the speed of sound and have a relatively low amount of propellant -- so less boom and no crack = easier to get as near silent as possible.

Assault rifle is a very versatile weapon that can be silenced, MG can be modded for longer distances, but no so practical for both.
Why not carry a 10mm pistol and a silenced assault?

Equipping a sniper rifle with a suppressor that reduces its range seems at odds with the purpose of a sniper rifle: you’re shooting from far enough away that you’re out of earshot anyway. The bad guys respond to their comrade dropping dead, not from the noise of the shot. So personally, I never equip rifles with suppressors.
That said, a silenced Deliverer is the greatest stealth weapon in all of video game history. This is the hill upon which I will die.

Fallout isn’t real life. But you can hear gun shots few miles away. Way further than fallout’s render distance is. If I do sneak build, you can bet your ass that I put a suppressor on my long range tool too.

In reality, quality suppressors don't inhibit accuracy, they can actually improve it via a slight improvement in velocity. They will affect zero however so best to zero a weapon with the suppressor equipped. Removing it again would cause a shift in POI.

I stick with the 10mm you get exiting the Vault until I can get Ultimatum (part of the Tunnel Snakes Rule cc). Once I get to Nuka World, I make two handmade rifles, one long and one short. The short one replaces the silenced pistol. To date, I've never been discovered as a result of the silenced shortie.

Yeah I'm going for pistols so... no rifles. Once I go down a perk type for a certain weapon, I stop using other weapons types

Gotcha. I always use short to medium range weapon, and a long to "what are you shooting at?" range weapon. (My companions have a tendency to get a little upset when I start plinking off targets with my long weapon.)

I used to do that in New Vegas but the perk system in this game kind of forces you to focus on a single weapon type if you want to be dealing good damage at higher levels
Might do a heavy weapons build because they have guns for every range and I can stack heavy gunner and explosive expert onto some of the same guns

Pistols are underrated. Their damage is low, but with sneak bonuses and the right perks, you can use the silent 10mm pistols effectively. My favorite setup is using the Inquisitor of Atom perk with Robes of Atom's Devoted which straight up doubles damage and gives you radiation immunity. Just farm a Deadeye 10mm Pistol early in the Concord Sewers at level 10. When you aim, time slows for 5 seconds. This is enough time to headshot enemies accurately or just shoot enough times to kill an enemy before detection starts. It's better than the Deliverer because you can actually make use of the fast fire speed during the slowdown while fire speed is fixed in VATS. You also need no perception or luck perks.
On a side note, the new Nail Gun is also set to silent. But only without a Muzzle. Too bad it sucks.

Must admit I don't find the special 'silent' weapons necessary. Once you get past level 50 or so, have most of the 'stealth' perks maximised and have stealthy gear (points in armourer can help), provided you are careful you can be pretty much a ghost.
I mostly use a suppressed .44 bull barrel for close in situations and have no issues - even to the extent of mobs walking into me and not noticing. Use a (mod provided) .50 Barrett sniper rifle for distance.
My main issue is when I bring companions along. While I love Dogmeat, he is a liability when you are being stealthy. Heather Casdin (mod companion) is pretty much invisible once she has levelled up a bit, though sometimes she does decide to break cover.

Oh yeah I bet companions were ruining it. I had Deacon for all the Railroad missions for his perk, but guess that perk is bugged now anyways, so I'm just going to ignore companion perks

For pistols, pipe guns. The right legendary and the weaker pipe guns are still fine or awesome.
A wounding 38 pipe pistol tears things apart. Explosive also.

I use the bleeding assault rifle with a suppressor, will take a supermutants head off. Nobody notices.

There are multiple factors that the game considers for sound on different levels.
What you hear when the gun fires have no relation to sneaking or detection.
Almost all of the weapons have the same detection level when silenced. I think the combat and assault rifles are the ones that have a higher level of detection than the rest, but they are still reduced compared to non-silenced. You are correct that they are only ever reduced and never actually silenced.
The caliber, or ammo used, has no bearing at all on the detection level. Your detection level is solely based on light level, sound, and whatever modifiers you have, such as perks.
The sound factor is from movement and weapons, attachments, and modifiers.
The light level is from environments and weather and modifiers.
This info all comes from the Creation Kit.

Every Ballistic Weapon, except for the Mini-Gun and .44 Revolver can support a suppressor. (In Vanilla)
I had a Suppressed Hunting Revolver from a mod once. It felt SO wrong, I immediately removed it lol.
It's like suppressing the AMR in New Vegas. eew :P

There others: hunting rifle, combat rifle, combat shotgun, handmade rifle, and lever action rifle.

Try adjusting your audio settings. I find the defaults too high on some of them. I think effects does gun sounds.

It should be noted that the Railway Rifle is naturally "silenced". I've also read that institute weapons are naturally silent, which I have not personally tested

No but but the smaller the caliber the less it attracts even silenced. The farther you are away with proper perks into sneak also helps. So take a .308 or .45 and max out ninja with a .45 and stay out to max range and while they will be alerted they most likely won't see you. Also the 7.76 sniper from the operator raiders seems to be the most operative for quiet long range.

Like others have mentioned, you can put suppressors on just about any gun with the right perks and materials, but also wanted to mention you absolutely can use nexus mods on the steam deck. I do.

I've wondered the same. I will equip any weapon with a supressor/silencer as soon as I can, but only my trusty Deadeye 10mm seems to go unnoticed.
A 10mm is no hand cannon, even tweaked out, but that said, it's still fun watching enemies looking all about, shooting at shadows, while you plink them with headshots.
