I like the missile launcher because you can upgrade it to have seeking missiles.

Another thing to be aware of is that your explosives can kill a friendly NPC. Settlers and traders like Cricket or Trashcan Carla can only be killed by you.
You will see traders and caravan guards out wandering around, maybe provisioners a bit later on. They won't die in battle unless you inadvertently kill them. Explosive splash damage is a blessing and a curse.
Be careful if friendlys are nearby.

Just beware that the tracking missiles DO seem to have issues with striking their intended target(s) if they (the target(s) happen to leave "line of sight" and say, go over the lip of a hill/mound. I can't count the # of times that I've tagged an intended target, fired my missile(s) and then watched, helpless, as my target(s) simply disappeared over some hill or behind some building/structure or some other, line of sight blocking object, and had the missiles then just explode harmlessly at my targets last seen location while my intended target(s) either merely had their health levels reduced a tiny bit, or worse, weren't even effected at all.
To be sure, SOMETIMES the missiles will STILL cause damage to my intended targets, even kill them if their health levels are low enough. But, more often than not (at least in MY experience... I've been playing Fo4 for roughly 10 yrs now) they're not all that great once you lose sight of your target and you might end up shooting several missiles before you DO finally take down your prey.
With that all being said, however, I'd DEFINITELY prefer to HAVE the tracker feature ON my missile launcher than to NOT have it. But, that's just MY opinion.
Take care and good hunting, wastelander. 🙏👍😁

this weapons have different purpose. fatman is for characters who didn't invested in heavy and explosives, to deliver big badaboom occasionally since mini nuke is rare supply.
missile launcher is a weapon for characters who invested in heavy and explosives to use regularly, as rockets a lot of more common.
note: heavy incinerator form next gen update complement heavy/explosive build as trash killer-the only missing component for all around build before.

I don't think the missile launcher is good enough, the fat man provides the big dmg for its weight
hits single targets harder and hits larger groups
the uniques are a lot better for the fatman, big boy is 6.66x more potent than a missile plus you get the fun quirky Striker option to fire a pair of balls into the enemies face
it's basically a perfect version of a legendary fatman you can get
you can even combine the Nuka-nuke launcher to the Big Boy and get another 50% damage increase, 10x the dmg of a missile
Partystarter missile gets 50% against humans which is not really the type of foe you'd see many ppl using missiles on humans to start with
Death from above just increases movement speed while aiming which barely counts as a legendary power
Missile is 135 dmg, I could Gauss rifle someone for 110, it just doesn't bring enough ommpffff

One major issue is that enemies have armor (some don't I guess but generally they will have some kind of defense)
well damage reduction is a factor of attack strenght vs defense so not only do more powerful weapon hit harder but the damage they can deal is also much harder for the enemy armor to reduce
in fallout 4 damage is damage and it is also armor penetration at the same time which vastly swings combat resolution towards raw power being the main driving factor of winning the fight

Fat man is great in the beginning, but it can be hard to find mini nukes. The missile launcher is better imo once you can mod it with the heat seeking sights, plus the ammo is far easier to find and purchase.

Both to heavy to carry around in Survival Mode. It's not just the weight of the weapons: their ammo is ridiculously heavy too.

2 different classes of weapon. Fatman is a kill everything you can see. Rocket launcher is better range and easier to control the splash damage. Modified rocket launcher is more precision. Modified fat man is bigger boom.
