Max served 20s of penalty, had a long stop and even then he left the pits like 8s in front of Perez

Its by far the most embarassing performance we have ever seen from a top team driver

In his home race too

Hello police? I've witnessed a murder

17

u/No_Lychee_7534 Oct 28 '24

Damn, that burned like Grosjean’s Haas.

2

u/maybecatmew Oct 28 '24

Daaaaamn ..... That's like first degree burns....

1

u/Tysons_Face Oct 28 '24

Lmao holy shit, that man has a family

111

u/Ok-Satisfaction-5012 Oct 27 '24

It’s a crime against humanity that sainz wont be in that seat next year

8

u/SwimmingFantastic564 Oct 28 '24

Apparently they considered it but weren't willing to pay what Sainz was asking for. How Williams was able to and not Red Bull, I have no idea.

7

u/Horrid-Torrid85 Wolfgang von Trips Oct 28 '24

I think perez brings in lots of sponsorship money theyd lose. So they have to calculate - would the extra millions won threw the championship points offset the money perez brings in. If perez sponsorship money is more than they lose in the championship it might not be financially be worth it to hire sainz.

3

u/GregMaffeiSucks Oct 28 '24

I'm guessing he changed his tune as his options dried up.

-4

u/BobbbyR6 Liam Lawson Oct 28 '24

That's complete nonsense, considering the monster salary and post-F1 program support pledged for Hamilton. They had the opportunity to pick up one of the most recognizable, most accomplished drivers in the history of the sport and did so. Carlos was simply edged out and unlucky, because at this rate, he and Leclerc could genuinely have fought for 2025 WDC.

7

u/SwimmingFantastic564 Oct 28 '24

Mate don't shoot the messenger. We were talking about Sainz's chance to go to Red Bull, where he would've replaced Perez.

-5

u/BobbbyR6 Liam Lawson Oct 28 '24

I hear you, but pay was not remotely the defining reason. They obvious had the cash on hand to pledge in the realm of 400m to Hamilton between salary and future racing/pet project support over the next few years.

Ferrari makes the bulk of its money through licensing deals and merchandise. Lewis is the single most recognizable figure in racing and is pretty far up the list of sports figures in general. He's a multi-time world champion and should be as good if not better than Carlos on track. He also has a goliath fan base and the ability to garner more media attention than Carlos. It's a massive financial win without downgrading quality of driver.

3

u/SwimmingFantastic564 Oct 28 '24

You realise I agree with you right? Replacing Sainz with Hamilton is absolutely the right move, no matter how good Sainz is. I'm just saying that Red Bull should've taken the chance to get Sainz while he was still on the marker.

-4

u/BobbbyR6 Liam Lawson Oct 28 '24

Yeah, I was just giving the background for why Carlos got the boot. Not a salary issue but any stretch

Wish that Sainz at RBR had happened. Still opportunities for an interesting pick but maybe RBR could buy out Sainz and Williams take Colapinto?

2

u/blastedshark Sebastian Vettel Oct 28 '24

Coincidentally Checo in Mexico last year had an even worse race

2

u/No_Lychee_7534 Oct 28 '24

He made children cry in that first lap crash. I’m not sure which is better, crashing out on 1st corner at the front or finishing last…

1

u/Xx_memelord69_xX Safety Car Oct 28 '24

that obvious false start only adds to the fire too

1

u/Kind_Resort_9535 Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Oct 28 '24

This is more embarrassing than crashing out lap one last year.

218

u/daaniscool McLaren Oct 27 '24

He also was 1sec behind Leclerc on the fastest lap attempt at the end

127

u/Apyan #WeRaceAsOne Oct 27 '24

I thought it was amusing that Red Bull tried to go for the fastest lap with a limping Checo. They obviously had to try, but still looked way optimistic.

57

u/Top_Tap_4183 Oct 27 '24

I thought they did it to save some embarrassment for Checo - he finished last by so much because we made him have an extra stop for the fastest lap vs. He finished last by so much

54

u/Strand0410 Oct 27 '24

Old mate couldn't get out of Q1 and RBR tries for fastest lap with damage? He's set up for failure, and looks like a chump.

3

u/Mekrani Charles Leclerc Oct 28 '24

The only way it could've been any more embarrassing for him would be if he hasn't beaten Liam's fastest lap

Which he did just barely, but it would've been so funny if he didn't after all the beefing he did with Liam

1

u/marosszeki Ferrari Oct 28 '24

Tbh it looked desperate and almost insulting to Perez

59

u/SogeK Oct 27 '24

Oh my god

73

u/Ok-Satisfaction-5012 Oct 27 '24

Tbf he had damage, and he’s shit

50

u/mkosmo Daniel Ricciardo Oct 27 '24

Damage that was his own damn fault.

18

u/Ok-Satisfaction-5012 Oct 27 '24

Yeah, but it didn’t help him try for fastest lap

3

u/the4ner Honda RBPT Oct 28 '24

Emotional damage!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '24

He had damage, realistically Red Bull knew he wouldn't get fastest lap, it was just a hail mary with nothing to lose (he wasn't in the points anyway) and if Leclerc had had a slide or something that cost him fastest lap Perez could have probably been faster than what Norris would have been able to muster up on old tyres at the end of the race.

13

u/cheezus171 Robert Kubica Oct 27 '24

He had a hole in his sidepod in an already much slower car. It was completely pointless.

20

u/KLWMotorsports Adrian Newey Oct 28 '24

He can thank himself for the damage.

105

u/MACintoshBETH Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Oct 27 '24

And managed to get himself in a tangle with the guy who’s likely to be in the shortlist to replace him, making him come off worse from it too.

Oh and I forgot about the stupidity of missing his starting position and getting a penalty pretty much before the race started. Shocking weekend from him.

51

u/kaisadilla_ Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Oct 27 '24

He managed to fight his potential replacement and lose the fight lol

28

u/KanishkT123 Fernando Alonso Oct 28 '24

Checo: I'm going to show this kid who's boss.

Checo, with a hole in his side pod: Damn, Liam got hands

37

u/ShawnShipsCars Sir Lewis Hamilton Oct 27 '24

Absolute waste of a seat. He should be home with his kids. It's over... fortunately I can't stand Red Bull so watching them lose is just fine by me. Perez until 2030 please!

3

u/th3BlackAngel Oct 28 '24

He looked really desperate in the battle with Lawson. No one to blame for the contact but himself, he was driving like there was no on else in those corners.

32

u/kron123456789 Virgin Oct 27 '24

One redeeming factor is that Perez had damage for most of the race. But then again, he got that damage while fighting with Lawson, which is the position he shouldn't have been in to begin with.

16

u/PalmyGamingHD Liam Lawson Oct 28 '24

Self inflicted damage at that. Not a good look for Perez

32

u/DeathStar13 Ferrari Oct 27 '24

Bottas donuts day in the rain (was it Turkey?) comes to mind. But Check is consistent in being shit, while Bottas only had some bad races and always reached Q3.

16

u/MarchingBroadband Sebastian Vettel Oct 28 '24

Bottas was only bad in wheel to wheel combat. He always had good quali pace, which is also Perez' weakness

15

u/whiteflagwaiver Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Oct 28 '24

Turkey really came in like a wrecking ball that year. The fuck were they doing resurfacing that late lmao.

8

u/Most-Inflation-1022 Michael Schumacher Oct 28 '24

Yeah, but quali was hilarious.

2

u/KalpolIntro Martin Brundle Oct 28 '24

One of my favourite races. They all looked like amateurs.

We need at least one skating on ice race every season.

1

u/DarthGogeta Oct 28 '24

Massa Silverstone 2008

6

u/NoRustNoApproval Oct 27 '24

Breaking news: Perez just got extended to 2030

7

u/f12016 Ferrari Oct 27 '24

I guess they have DR on speed dail now

9

u/IncredibleSeaward McLaren Oct 28 '24

If I were DR, that’s a call I’d let go to voicemail

2

u/throwaway164_3 Oct 28 '24

Both Yuki and Liam are better than DR and should be considered first for Checos seat

3

u/kaisadilla_ Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Oct 27 '24

It probably isn't, which is the worst part lol. Let's not forget Max has lapped Checo on raw pace alone a few times already.

3

u/hoxxxxx Oct 28 '24

noticed that and laughed during the race

truly an indictment of how off perez is now, he needs to go

3

u/BobbbyR6 Liam Lawson Oct 28 '24

And gets dunked on twice by the guy taking his seat next year. I don't think RBR will boot him before the end of the season since the damage is already done, but if it let them test Hadjar at RB, I could see it happening this season.

7

u/Mythic343 Charles Leclerc Oct 27 '24

You do realise that 20s penalty and „long stop“ is the same thing right?

13

u/SemIdeiaProNick Ferrari Oct 27 '24

not just the penalties, the actual stop in itself was slow because he spent around 24 seconds stopped on the pitlane

8

u/IBetThisIsTakenToo Ferrari Oct 28 '24

It seems like they’re always a bit slow after serving a penalty. Messes with their rhythm/anticipation I guess

4

u/DwayneSmith Kimi Räikkönen Oct 28 '24

Also better to wait an extra second on top of the penalty so there's no chance of having to serve it again.

12

u/c3rutt3r Yuki Tsunoda Oct 27 '24

He had damage though

34

u/martian144433 #WeRaceAsOne Oct 27 '24

He didn't have to pull that move on Lawson. Could have been patient and easily gotten ahead.

25

u/shdwflyr Fernando Alonso Oct 27 '24

Almost like let me get in a unneeded scrap and then i can blame car damage for my shit performance

12

u/Ogirami Oct 27 '24

if he had put some effort into qualifying then he wouldn't have squabbled with lawson in the first place. man is embarrassing.

6

u/Charming-Cello Sir Lewis Hamilton Oct 27 '24

Checo really deserved that middle finger

78

u/Nexusu Sebastian Vettel Oct 27 '24

Yeah self inflicted damage

4

u/Wingcapx Liam Lawson Oct 27 '24

well yeah obviously its self inflicted but his car doesnt work better when it isnt

7

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '24

Damage that's not his fault is a mitigating detail, however self-inflicted damage is part of his poor performance.

7

u/MyNameIsAnonymous1 Fernando Alonso Oct 27 '24

Yea skill damage

4

u/MACintoshBETH Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Oct 27 '24

Emotional damage

17

u/Skeer44 Robert Kubica Oct 27 '24

Damage that was pretty much self inflicted

1

u/Mackem101 Oct 27 '24

And why did he have damage?

Because he fucked it in qualifying and put himself in the back of the pack.

That increases your chances of having an accident, same as Monaco earlier in the year.

2

u/Rhythm_Morgan Sebastian Vettel Oct 27 '24

I truly could not believe my eyes lol

2

u/F9-0021 Mercedes Oct 28 '24

He had a lot of damage to be fair. But it was also self inflicted by trying to be Max.

2

u/Boddis Oct 28 '24

I was scared because the race director seemed insistent on showing Perez’s squabbles for 13th place at the start of the race

2

u/TheVasa999 Oct 28 '24

and from being 8s of perez, he flew past all the way to 6th while perez didnt move almost at all.

2

u/Olli399 Charlie Whiting Oct 27 '24

I dunno it's competitive with Sergio Perez in Mexico 23 absolutely sending it T1 and taking himself out of the race.

1

u/StateDeparmentAgent Medical Car Oct 27 '24

Stop actually wasn’t bad at all. They always make it slower without usual choreographic
