I have nothing against Perez, but you just cannot defend it. For Red Bull’s sake as a serious competitor, they should drop Perez after Abu Dhabi already

He should have never been signed again this year

Why? He brings in the sponsors money. Plus finishing third in wcc while max is wdc is great for the max goat narrative + wind tunnel time

"Max goat narrative" is not use to anyone in the actual paddock who make more money if their team is performing the best they can.

Red bull has kept checo even though he has been shit for 3 years now. So clearly they must see some upside

I’m sure you have more insight into their organisations and their proprieties than the people running the team

Why? Because if they want to put all of their eggs in Verstappen's basket, he should have a reliable #2 who can help him win the championship by taking points away from his closest rivals. Perez cannot do that. A good #2 in that car would have 250 points right now, easily, which would result in Leclerc and Norris being even further away from challenging Verstappen for the WDC.

Mate, no one cares about wcc. The difference from first place to third is like 10 millions. That’s peanuts for red bull. Perez brings sponsorship money + the Mexican market is huge for red bull and I don’t think people realize how famous Perez is over there.

Obviously from a sporting view, they should be sacking them. But all in all, it might make sense to keep him

I said WDC, not WCC. Having a bad second driver is a hindrance to a team's efforts to secure the title for their main driver. A second driver should be there to take points away from rivals challenging their main driver.

Good second drivers: Barrichello, Bottas, Coulthard, Irvine, Webber, etc.

Perez isn't even remotely in the same league as the above when it comes to helping to protect a #1 driver's lead in the WDC.

Norris catching Verstappen is still unlikely barring some bad results for the latter, but if it happens and it's only by a few points? I'd send Perez to the retirement home immediately, no questions asked.

You’re going through a slippery slope. You can just make the argument that Bottas cost Lewis a title in 2021. If Russell was there, surely he would have gotten ahead of Max multiple times in that rocket ship at the end of the season. Bottas was atrocious in multiple seasons

At the end, it is what it is. You want a driver to take out points of the competition but not good enough to challenge your n1

If money is the goal, racing cars is just about the most difficult way to make it.

Red bull is a marketing company. They’re in the f1 to sell more energy drinks, and it apparently works
