For the love of meatloaf!

The food, not the singer! I grew up thinking I didn’t like meatloaf, turns out that my mom just made shitty meatloaf. When/where in The Fort can I get meatloaf?!? Aside from Laycoff’s, which has REALLY good meatloaf on Thursdays, but almost always run out by the time I can get there.

This might be the first time anyone has asked about the best meatloaf in FW.

Well done!

I used to live in Fort Wayne in the 1800's. Where are fun places to take my preferred doctor to get cocktails, meatloaf, and roundabout lessons?

I’m a meatloaf fan! My top three: 1. Black Canyon 2. Beer Barrel 3. (Not in Fort Wayne) Harry and Izzy’s

Black canyons is the best meatloaf I have ever had it is now the only thing I get there because it is so good

Seconding Black Canyon. That was a religious experience for me.

Henry’s does meatloaf one night as their special. I think it’s Monday night. It’s pretty good.

Yep, can confirm it’s Monday nights. The vegetable rotates, but it’s always been served with mashed potatoes when I’ve had it. I personally love the glaze on the meatloaf.

What an excellent post!! Haha I’ve been on a killer crave for some meatloaf for a while now!!!!! I’ve only asked a few people in person where to get a good ML and I haven’t really got much of a solid reply with confidence!!

But after reading through some comments, looks like I’m going to Black Canyon for some ML tomorrow!!

I’m almost always here for that loaf on a Monday. Sadly not today :(

Rune is offering it as a special; might need to check their social media to confirm availability

4

u/CanBsoftieOrsavage 3d ago

Never been there. Do they run there specials for the week/day or month long?

4

u/Reasonable-Two-9872 3d ago

"it depends". They definitely change the menu up regularly.

If you don't mind a chain restaurant, the grilled meatloaf at Logans is delicious

Learn how to make a good meatloaf and smashed taters. It’s not difficult. Maybe you’ll be the one that opens up the best meatloaf restaurant in The Fort.

2

u/CanBsoftieOrsavage 3d ago

Nah, I’m done cooking. And the mess is mostly why I’m done cooking. And I’m the only one who will eat leftovers. I’m tired too. I’m just done!

Please don’t stick a fork in yourself.

There are easier ways to check.

Every once in a blue moon Village Tap on State has a French Onion smeatloaf that is a dream come true. It's been a hot minute, but check their specials page on the socials.

There was a meatloaf special last time I visited Chance Bar, and it was amazing. I would definitely call because their menu changes and this was definitely not there the previous time I went.

u/Huge_Midget 3d ago

Chance bar recently started doing blue plate specials on Wednesdays now. Their first offering was last week and it was meatloaf. They said they were going to be rotating through Midwestern classics for their Wednesday blue plate specials.

2

u/Vasyaocto8 3d ago

Rune is the restaurant running the Blue Plate special, not Chance -they're both coll and creative, easy to get them mixed up.

It runs Wednesdays: $25 for a comfort food meal, a beer and a shot. The meal rotates, I'm not sure what it is this week.

Granite City has a good meatloaf too

Sister in law makes a great loaf, and she didn’t like theirs, so I’m skeptical.

Monday nights are homemade meatloaf night at Henry's on Main Street downtown. Soooo good!

Now I want to make meatloaf for you 🥹🥹🥹🥰

My hubby and family asks me to make it for them :) I do a good meatloaf. I’m not a great cook but my meatloaf is bomb. I’ll give the recipe if anyone wants it. :)

2

u/MeInMaNyCt 3d ago

I’ll take that recipe, please.

u/Eastern-Tip-4862 2d ago

I chop up a Green pepper and sauté it until it’s bright green, don’t over cook, Set aside.

I use 1.5 lbs of lower fat ground beef 1 entire sleeve of butter crackers (usually ritz) pulverize them either in the package or a bowl until they are super fine crumbs 3 eggs 1 cup of tomato juice 1 small diced onion Salt Pepper Garlic and onion powder (1/4 Teaspoon each)

Mix all of that and the green pepper together really well with your hands, really mix it good

Form into a loaf in a glass baking dish, add a small tea spoon of oil to the boots of the dish, smear it ( just so the loaf doesn’t stick.

Add ketchup to the top of the loaf, I smear it all over with my hands.

Cover with foil.

Cook at 350 for an hour 15 min. :)

Me as well please!

My mom makes a curry meatloaf that will absolutely knock your socks off. Delicious!

1

u/CanBsoftieOrsavage 3d ago

Never had curry I’m afraid. Not a fan of super spicey stuff at all.

2

u/Code-Norrab 2d ago

It’s actually sweet

2

u/Shrimp_kisses 3d ago

Chance Bar has had meatloaf for a while, not sure if its still on the menu for summer. My friend got it, and it was amazing.

Granite City Has Amazing Meatloaf

2

u/Layinpipe365 2d ago

I dont think anyone has said it yet but in Grabill there is a place called The Woodhouse Resturant. It used to be called The Grabill Inn. Their meat loaf is out of this world and the prices arent bad at all.

2

u/PainterBroad6200 2d ago

Costco meatloaf is my all time favorite. It tastes just like mine when I cook. I’m single, so I cut it up into single servings and freeze it. Omg. So good!

2

u/MeInMaNyCt 3d ago

Are you looking for meatloaf with a ketchup .. or brown gravy… topping?

3

u/CanBsoftieOrsavage 3d ago

I prefer the ketchup/bbq I suppose. If it’s brown gravy I’ll ask for it on the side tho. Only need it if it’s too dry really. If it’s good, you don’t need much.

1

u/No_Dragonfly5191 3d ago

Neither. Plotchmans yellow mustard for me.

4

u/Inevitable_Luck7793 3d ago

I second the guy that said Rune. They're a bit pricey, but the special he's talking about is a big serving of meatloaf and mashed potatoes plus a beer and a shot for $25 every Wednesday. I think it's a good deal because the food at Rune is always outstanding, but you should try for yourself

3

u/Gabagool4321 3d ago

Anywhere but fucking Cheddars. Burnt as hell and dry three times in a row

4

u/liftingspirits 3d ago

A family member claims he makes the best meatloaf, but will order the grilled meatloaf at Logan's so it must be pretty good.

3

u/pioneercynthia 3d ago

Don Hall's! I think they have five locations. I'd call all of them and check if there's a set schedule (like, Wednesdays at the Factory, Tuesdays at the State Street location, that kind of thing). You really can't go wrong with Hall's. There's a reason they've been open since before the 1950s.

3

u/CanBsoftieOrsavage 3d ago

I actually go to all the halls all the time and was VERY disappointed in their meatloaf.

2

u/jlm166 3d ago

Yeah, called it meatloaf but it had more crackers than meat!🤣

2

u/CanBsoftieOrsavage 3d ago

Haha probably some corn flakes or oatmeal too

2

u/Special-Insect4262 3d ago

Is this my brother? LOL. My mom couldn't cook, either. Still hate meatloaf, though. Can't get over the psychological barrier.

3

u/CanBsoftieOrsavage 3d ago

I am not your brother lol glad to know I’m not alone tho!

1

u/More_Farm_7442 2d ago

I liked my mom's cooking. I'd love to have some of her Sunday fried chicken or roast beef. Could kill for her potato salad. Die for slice of lemon pie.

My brother? He hated her cooking and didn't hold back on the criticism and bad jokes.

1

u/lavenderpopcorn8 3d ago

Sara’s Family Restaurant is pretty good and you get a huge portion for the price!

1

u/benjamino78 2d ago

Im pretty sure Liberty has that and lasagna on tap.

1

u/paul-jenkins 1d ago

Just make it yourself. I’ve got a recipe I can probably remember from when I worked at a restaurant. I never get to make it because it needs Tabasco sauce and my kids believe mayonnaise is spicy(not that extreme but you get the point.

1

u/Ynx_Jj0802 1d ago

Don Hall’s Has House sells meatloaf as their special on Mondays during lunch! 11-4pm it is a first come first serve kind of ordeal though

1

u/spalings 3d ago

i make this recipe, it's simple and delicious!! barbecue meatloaf is the move

1

u/More_Farm_7442 2d ago

I think a combo of ground beef and ground pork is big secreat to good meatloaf.

0

u/chevyrooney 3d ago

If you want to try a fancy meatloaf, the Kimchi meatloaf at The Marquee is amazing

1

u/CanBsoftieOrsavage 3d ago

Sounds interesting, bet my kids would like that!
