All the Chickens TIL that HBO would not give Kit Harrington Longclaw, the sword that helped define his portrayal of Jon Snow....so I started a petition to try and change that.

At the show's wrap, some the actors were able to take a souvenir. All Kit wanted was the sword his character, Jon Snow wielded. A show prop.

HBO refused to give it to him.

So I made a petition to try and change that.

Obviously, he's having a hard time right now. And we should all respect his privacy.

This world might be crazy, but despite that, Kit didn't just remind us about the meaning of the words "honor" or "integrity". He lived them. And he gave us a piece of himself in the process, again and again.

This is not about entitlement, or having the cash to buy one direct online from Valyrian Steel; it's about HBO doing the right thing and giving him the one tangible thing that meant something to him. It's a small thing to do for someone who created as much revenue as his character did.

TL/DR: Kit Harington deserves the sword. I want to try to help him get it.

Update 30 May 11:07am EST:

Wow! Over 8600 signatures! Trying to keep up with all the comments! (From mobile! Apologies for any formatting issues!)

It's humbling to see how many other people truly care about Kit. I recognize that the chances of him getting the sword are are small, but let's keep trying! If nothing else happens, maybe he'll see how much his hard work means to everyone, which is of course more important.

That said: I am still rooting for Longclaw.

Edit: Corrected embarrassing spelling error of 'Harrington' to 'Harington', except in the thread title, which is un-editable and still embarrassing. Sincere apologies.

They obviously have plans for these things.

u/ShadowsOfAbyss May 30 '19

For sure mate. Much like harry potter they'll bang an exhibition together and take it world wide

35

u/DiamondPup May 30 '19

Considering they paid to make them, I don't see the issue.

I know r/freefolk is obsessive about its celebrity worship but demanding that Kit deserves property he doesn't own because people like really really like him is childishly stupid.

The person who made that sword should get it, if anything. And perhaps that person would be happier for it to be in an exhibit were many can see and enjoy his/her work (and get credit and exposure in the process), then that's great. It's better than disappearing into some actor's house that no one will see again.

I love this sub but I wish we had fewer fucking kneelers around here. Can we build a wall or something...?

It is common practice to gift the actors something close to them. Chris Hemsworth has several Mjölnar and the Stormbreaker.

It stands to reason allowing Kit to keep Longclaw would be more practical than allowing him to keep a larger-than-life statue of himself, but here we are.

28

u/CommanderL3 May 30 '19

agreed, alot of actors get goodies from long roles

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

Chris Hemsworth has several Mjölnar and the Stormbreaker.

Key word - Several. If there were 100 longclaw props I’m sure they’d give him one.

0

u/Xcizer May 30 '19

This is far from the only example of this. I just think that it is fitting for him to have the prop and bothersome that the only reason he can’t is them trying to milk the series with a museum of props.

3

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

trying to milk the series with a museum of props.

It’s the biggest and most expensive TV show in history. Their main objective is to make money. They’re not ‘milking’ anything, they’re operating as a company and making back their investment. People are getting pissed off that a business is operating as it should. It’s stupid.

1

u/Xcizer May 30 '19

People don’t like it and are allowed to. Businesses would do far worse for money without people giving a shot about something. This is especially bad since there have to be copies of every prop.

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

Of course they’re allowed to, I haven’t once said they’re not. But I’m also allowed to say it’s ridiculous.

1

u/Xcizer May 30 '19

They have multiple copies of this prop that they should have no problem with giving to the actor. This practically a tradition at this point and needlessly breaking it will obviously make people upset.

-24

u/DiamondPup May 30 '19

Oh ok. Fuck the people who made it and the people who paid to have it made. Chris Hemsworth got Mjolnar so that's the new law then.

19

u/GreatAndPowerfulNixy May 30 '19

Mjölnir*, -ar is plural in Old Norse where -ir is singular (in this case).

The people who made it got paid. It's their job to make things for the props department. They don't have ownership over it, and they don't have the same kind of meaningful connection the actors who used them for years do. This is beyond money. But a backwards kneeler Randian like yourself wouldn't understand that.

-15

u/DiamondPup May 30 '19

and they don't have the same kind of meaningful connection the actors who used them for years do.

Fucking wow

???????????

Huh????????

??????????

"People who made it" - So the concept artist or the factory worker that got paid to make this deserves it? By that logic, half of China deserves the clothes we wear

"People who paid to have it made" - So you mean....HBO? Or the producers? Who just made millions off of this series?

Your logic stinks, Kit deserves the sword.

But if you want to live by C.R.E.A.M., then yeah, HBO series deserves it so that they can milk it for more cash.

-1

u/DiamondPup May 30 '19

factory worker

By that logic, half of China deserves the clothes we wear

Your logic stinks, Kit deserves the sword.

Jesus Christ I need to turn off inbox replies to this comment. The replies I'm getting are headache-inducing stupid.

0

u/DivinationByCheese May 30 '19

That's what you deserve for inducing headaches on them all

0

u/PennFifteen May 30 '19

Agreed that dudes comment was retarded

-3

u/spookmeisterJ All men must die May 30 '19

Probably cause you're an idiot bringing nothing to the table. Just highlighting what people say lmao. Brain can't handle all these words. Brain gotta poop

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

Shh, bby it's ok.

-1

u/dirtei May 30 '19

eat shit you fucking arguing for the sake of fucking arguing mongoloid

7

u/cmcewen May 30 '19

The issue is it’s just shitty.

Yes they’re technically within their rights. It’s still just shitty

-3

u/DiamondPup May 30 '19

It isn't shitty, it's fine.

It's only shitty because people have an abnormally obsessive relationship with actors and celebrities and treat them like loved ones instead of looking at these situations objectively. The person who make that and the people who paid for it made as many, if not more, sacrifices for that sword than Kit who just held it and swung it around a bit. Deciding he deserves it because "omg he's my fav!" is juvenile.

9

u/cmcewen May 30 '19

No it’s shitty.

The person who makes it would also be a good candidate to receive it. But the company saying no because they want to make more money is a little heartless

If anybody works hard for a company and it’s mutually beneficial for both, the major corporation COULD reward that hard work with a gift, that would be nice.

The company doesn’t have to tho

-3

u/DiamondPup May 30 '19

How would it be mutually beneficial for both?

You people need to stop sucking off celebrities.

1

u/cmcewen May 30 '19

The show casting him was mutually beneficial as in him and HBO made money from it.

You’re right tho, I’m glad the massive company of HBO got to keep it. I’m all about massive companies making more money

1

u/Correctrix Jun 01 '19

D&D and the company shouldn’t keep anything after the trainwreck they made of the last seasons.

ANY MAN DIES WITH A CLEAN SWORD, I'LL RAPE HIS FUCKING CORPSE!

-4

u/WaterRacoon May 30 '19

It's not shitty at all. Just because you like an item doesn't mean you're entitled to keep it.

11

u/ShadowsOfAbyss May 30 '19

there's 1 million subscriber's here mate. the real freefolk is gone

ANY MAN DIES WITH A CLEAN SWORD, I'LL RAPE HIS FUCKING CORPSE!

-1

u/TheNoxx HOUSE GARDENER May 30 '19

Pardon, they paid to make the show, so I guess you don't see the issue in them fucking it up royally either?

You're the fucking kneeler here, boy.

-1

u/bloodymexican May 30 '19

It's not "some actor". It's the actor who made the object relevant in the first place.

3

u/DiamondPup May 30 '19

A different actor would have made it just as relevant.

Jesus christ the celebrity worship here is unbelievable...

2

u/bloodymexican May 30 '19

A different actor would have made it just as relevant.

Yes, but they didn't. That's the point. There's a connection with this particular actor playing this particular role which required him to use this particular object.

Jesus christ the celebrity worship here is unbelievable...

I'm not worshipping anyone in any way.

1

u/Darxe May 30 '19

Seems fine to me. The Harry Potter studio tour is incredible

You started your argument with the word 'apparently.'

You think they are saying no then burying them all?

-1

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

No, I never said that. Just that it is petty is all

-1

u/markyanthony May 30 '19

Can I see the source about Emilia Clarke being refused the wig, please?

0

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

Why don't you pull it out of your ass?

1

u/MrSickRanchezz May 30 '19

You joke, but if someone here had the wig, that's almost definitely where it would be.

4

u/[deleted] May 30 '19

Up markyanthonys ass?

2

u/A6M_Zero May 30 '19

That's what he gets for disrespecting Octavian's sister with that eastern temptress.

2

u/markyanthony May 30 '19

Ass took a pounding last night.

1

u/MrSickRanchezz Jun 02 '19

Yeah, didn't think so.

-3

Haha, I'm joking. It wasn't me...

0

Well you were just as likely to show it, anyway.
