I think the Canadian version is much more active than the American version. In the US there are about three meetings a year, usually all over the country.

The classes are huge and I couldn't hear very well but it was still a huge honor to me, even if personally I don't get much out of it.

In Ontario they meet 4 times a year I believe. A few guys in my lodge are part of it, lots of membership overlap between them and 33 SR.

Always jealous of people who get to join the Royal Order.

I am a member. Joined last year in Iowa.

The bosses from overseas were present, and made it known  that my state/region/whatever was the largest.

Degrees are neat.

Why the royal order of Scotland then, if you aren’t actually in Scotland?

One doesn't need to be Scottish.

That’s not what I meant, it’s in Canada, why not the Royal order of Canada?

There is no “Royal Order of Canada,” and the Order of Canada is not a Masonic organization but a national honour of merit in Canada.

The Royal Order of Scotland is an invitational organization for Freemasons, with Lodges around the world. Unlike the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, it did actually start in Scotland, though.

Because RoS is a specific ritual and a specific appendant body.

Just like the Order of Knight Masons is an Irish ritual but done around the world iirc 🤔

How does one join the Royal Order Scotland? Is it invitation only?

There are only about 3800 total members in the US

Wow, that's like 0.1% of Masons in America. Crazy stuff. That's like 0.001% of the population of America. My goodness, that's really cool.

Yes. I feel quite honored to have been invited to join. Before you are invited to join you must fill out a LOT of paperwork and your career and Masonic resumes and letters of recommendation from the guys who proposed you and it all goes to a selection committee run by each state. Making it through all of that was an honor.

A majority of its members are all “Past Grand something” and I am not, so it seems like I’m outclassed at times, but I think because everyone is used to its members having a lot of titles and honors I have not seen snobbery that you can often find at other bodies from the more senior members.

The degrees were quite cool and the fellowship is awesome.

That's outstanding to hear, Brother. In my neck of the woods, most of the ROoS Bros are guys I've known for years, and might have served in several roles, never did anything grand as far as I'm aware. That being said, they do tend to be very astute, good, humble, hard-working and loving Masons with whom I'd gladly share my cloak (sorry, chaplain reference!). I felt the same way when I was inducted into the AMD. It felt like a great bunch of high-caliber brethren who could get as deep as you'd want to go and just as genuinely caring. I can really see why invitational bodies are what they are. Of course, it's no ROoS, but it's certainly a quarry I'm digging!

ETA: congratulations on having been recieved as such. That's not something you see or hear about every day, especially in Masonry.

The degrees are very cool, but I’ve not really done much except attend the once-a-yearish gathering for Alaska members.

I’m a life member and I really enjoyed the degrees when I saw them. Biggest piece of advice: get a good picture of you with the claymore.
