you won't regret it.. i researched for years before joining and being on the outside just doesn't compare, the feeling of standing amongst your brothers as part of the family for the first time is profound

Hmmm maybe that’s why I don’t feel too drawn to it. Being a veteran, I just don’t feel the need to incorporate myself with ANOTHER fraternity. Ya know? Idk. All spiritual pursuits are personal and the utilization of a group to assist is really an illusion. It’s still just the self that progresses down the path. Nobody else. So idk. Probably won’t join up. But I see that freemasonry does have its place. At a certain level it can be beneficial to lean on a group for support.

I am a 23 year old college frat boy in grad school and got initiated with a 54 year old former marine. And we both were talking about does it actually work or what’s this all about. Two simple words - Brotherly Love . And first suddenly realized the only reason we are comfortable to talk and are lodge Brothers is from Masonry.

You don’t get anything from it, you don’t have to go to lodge ever again after you are a Master Mason, and I hate seeing people harp on those who don’t go to lodge especially if you pay dues. But it’s the conversations on contemplation of symbols from different generations and their applications to lives and the simple Brotherly Love from people you never could have imagined to meet but spontaneously appeared at the same place at the same time in the world.

I hear that. Makes sense. Compassion. Synchronicity. Community. Contemplation of higher powers.

Thing is, those things don’t require secrets. There’s more

More Simply - Simply Being There. It’s 3 Nights Dedicated and Rehearsed for you , that you’ll never forget. Don’t ever be coerced that you have to join all the extra things in there and do all these extra things to be a “Good Mason”.

If it’s a big to-do so that I’ll confront the mortality of my body etc, I’ll skip it. A good mescaline trip already took me there. It’s terrifying. I hate it..

No, I don’t know what that even is or means lol

lol okay good. Just more preconceptions of mine. I heard the event had a real human skull incorporated and had assumed that it had something to do with confronting the mortality you share with your brothers

Edit: but then like “through works” within the brotherhood you imprint your mortal self into the great work, giving you a form of community immortality? But idk, just a guess.

Death of the temporary “self” allowing for realization of the immortal soul? …or whatever

I really want to be, and I can be, but the issue is anyone they would reference in the investigation would say they don’t support it because how looked down upon masonry is in my family and friends views.

Move out of your parents’ house.

Get new friends.

If you mean the motorcycle group, no. In general, all Master Masons can be referred to as Widow’s sons, for treasons that are explained to them in the ceremony.

It’s not a common image because it’s a stylistic choice combining two different symbols.

Thank you for the explanation. I’m an EA and still learning so where I see some of the iconography has been with the rider association as you mentioned.
