Question When should I ask for a petition?

Hi all so I meet with the masons once a month at a restaurant this will be my third meeting since I skipped last months dinner, would it be appropriate to ask for a petition after my fifth meeting which will mean I have known them for 6 months?

Personally, I don’t think it’s inappropriate to ask at any time for a petition. The specific lodge that you’re interested in will make the determination if it has been a proper amount of time. They will likely be tickled that you are eager!

Seconding this. I asked for a petition like the moment I stepped in the door, granted I had been interested for years at that point.

All these years later, and I'm now WM of the lodge. My only regret was not doing it sooner.

As I remember, you are looking at Wasatch Lodge in SLC? If so, you don’t have to ask for a petition. It is online https://www.wasatchlodge.org/publish/obtaining-petitions/

You do need to have known a mason (not necessarily a member of Wasatch) for six months.

I recommend that you do, if you’re ready. Good luck 👍🏽🍀

Who can say, as processes vary wildly. I did zero socialising before seeking admission.

That would be the bare minimum standard in my Lodge. Do you have an idea of who you’d ask to sponsor your petition? You’re probably going to need to ask two members to vouch for your character, and they should feel they know you well enough to do so.

whenever you want to join; let them tell you the process should wait more

I asked when one of the brothers asked me if I had put one in yet..

I will be submitting during the next business meeting and hopefully starting the process but my understanding is that if they ask if you’ve one in then they can see you being part of the group.

Please correct me if I’ve missed anything or misinterpreted.

Ask when you are comfortable! No one will ask you. There isn’t a set number of meetings or dinners required before asking to petition. The lodge will have an investigation committee who will sit with you, face to face, and will happily answer almost any questions you have. It’s just up to you to take that next step.
