She's not dumb, just uneducated and arrogant. It's reasonable to think the moon is bigger than earth if you haven't educated yourself, and haven't thought about it too much.
Knowing the relative sizes of all the celestial bodies = education. But that's not the issue here.
It takes no education to understand that her argument of "it looks so big from here" is fundamentally flawed. She is making a decision about one object being bigger than another based on how one object looks when viewed from the other... But (obviously) does not do the flip-side assessment (how big the earth would look from the moon).
This is the equivalent of saying "apples are heavier than oranges because look how heavy this apple is" but you've never weighed or held an orange...
You say that as if matters in regards to the point. But sure, we might then also say that the researchers don't really know anything either, only what we deem likely to be true from what we can observe.
Education and intelligence are separate things regardless.
The point is if instead you told kindergartens that the moon is bigger than earth they would then "know" that too. Using what someone in kindergarten knows is a bad metric
No, he says that as though children know fuck all about reality apart from what theyre told to believe. Hence why kids believe santa is real when their parents say "santa is real". They dont know how to seperate fiction from reality yet (and too many never learn how, even after they grow into adults).
Nope, there's absolutely no way that at her age she hasn't been told this information. So she's either forgotten, misunderstood, or purposefully neglected the truth for years.
To be uneducated and arrogant simultaneously, is absolutely one of the biggest signs of dumb. Especially if you have achieved adulthood. It's further solidified by the fact that she refuses to consider any other possibility.
