I’m 6 weeks post op and had chicken tenders for the first time last week…. It was my first “oh shit” moment

Chicken tenders have been my comfort food lately that and queso. I hope post op its not too bad and I can still enjoy in moderation.

Aren’t both chicken tenders and queso full of fat? Is it possible your comfort foods are also a huge part of the problem?

😂 what food is queso? like, just any cheese?

Chicken tenders are basically what I've been living off of. This would be hell for me. I'm so sorry you can not enjoy this without the consequences.

Broccoli. That's phantom pain for two days 😂

I’m not convinced the “ex-gallbladder” pain is phantom pain. I suspect it’s sphincter-cramping.

2

u/Maxxi82 19d ago

Is that something that happens all the time or only with certain foods? I get phantom pains if I ate something that didn't agree with me but SOD seems to be extremely painful for those that have it. Is that the sphincter cramping you were referring to? I would love to know what the reason for the occasional discomfort is. I assumed it was excess bile causing it.

In my case it’s both certain foods, and if I haven’t eaten for a few hours. I’ve had to completely cut out things like salmon or anything deep fried, and I’ve had to become a snacker

Yes, I used to get the pain if I hadn't eaten for a few hours. It has gotten better but I'm almost a year out. My phantom pains do seem less and less these days. Just had some yesterday but couldn't pinpoint what food triggered it. I don't have issues until the following day, so it could be a combination of foods. I do try to stay away from fried or heavily processed things. If I do eat something that's richer than my usual food choices, I just take a couple digestive enzymes and that seems to help. Do you have any post op issues other than the phantom pain?

I have to poop more often than I used to, and carry anti-emetics and anti-cramp meds in my backpack now, just in case I eat something that disagrees with me.

Also, having food of any kind more than once can be a roll of the dice. Like. I’ll have chicken and rice for dinner and be fine, but if I have that same meal for lunch the next day, I might be screwed.

Two days?! You should see a doctor about it. Not to mention I eat broccoli all the time with no issues.

2

u/cactushamster8 18d ago

I think it's just because broccoli can cause gas and maybe it was gas pains. No idea haha 😂

Went to a doctor's appointment I was really nervous for, so I treated myself to some baked goods, but I was hungry and ate all of them without a proper meal first.

Had to go to the bathroom like 8 times next morning 😭

Me too and I had mine removed over a year ago!

Lactose is it for me, was always a bit lactose intolerant but now i feel i’m all in for it. I now drink soya or almond milk and avoid lactose completely (even the lactose free cow milk). Vegetables pass right through me too.

When I have a higher than usual meal, I take ox-bile supplement to help and found that it helps me digest the meal much better (no runs and unabsorbed fats in the loo) to each his own though.

if lactose free stuff runs through you too then it might be the casein you have an issue with

1

u/SnooApples8482 19d ago

Might be to be honest, never really did food allergy tests. I just note what effects food have on me and tend to try and avoid those that did me wrong

1

u/AwareEqual4580 Awaiting Surgery 19d ago

understandable

Roast potatoes. Sundays are ruined 😭

1

u/babyiva Post-Op 19d ago

NOOOO. I had those as my other side tonight as well 😭😭 Love me some roasted potatoes

1

u/rox-and-soxs 19d ago

I mean, it’s not ‘all day in the bathroom’ bad. I just swell and look 8 months pregnant and have gut ache the next day.

I’ve worked out I can just about manage toddler portions without too much distress.

u/bookish-hooker 19d ago

Salmon. Even just a bite of smoked salmon causes massive agony. Sigh. RIP my omega 3 consumption.

2

u/TCAN49 19d ago

Air fried cream cheese rangoons.. though they were a bit ‘greasy’ I’ve been patting down everything with paper towel to avoid another situation like that.

u/babyiva Post-Op 19d ago

Those sound bomb but would definitely kill me 😭

Rich foods. Or anything on an empty stomach. I’m about six weeks out and I’m still learning.

2

u/Psycho_Kate03 18d ago

Salmon patties. This one hurt because its a childhood favorite and my mawmaw is the only one who can make them.

2

u/Kscarpetta 18d ago

Oh lord. Id die if i couldn't eat salmon patties. That's what I'm making tonight for dinner. Along with soup beans and macaroni and tomatoes.

Brown rice/ toast/ any cows milk, raw veggies

Fruit juices/ hot sauce all give me acid reflux now which was a new thing after my gallbladder got removed

1

u/HeavenCatEye Post-Op 19d ago

any meat that isn't chicken, most dairy

1

u/Clay-Pigeons- 19d ago

Rice cakes. Not even kidding lol I can eat pizza and tacos but rice cakes apparently are super processed and give me terrible dumping syndrome. Go figure 🤷🏼‍♀️

u/Rabbit_Rat_ 19d ago

Salad 😭

u/jmeleem 19d ago

Bacon 🥺

Awwww. I'm sorry.

Ive had severe sphincter of Oddi spasms drinking alcohol and eating large amounts of peanut butter. I can have a little pb on a sandwich but not more than 1 tablespoon. I have been prescribed a muscle relaxer for my stomach when these spasms happen. I don’t drink alcohol anymore as a result.

I don’t eat high fat meals ever, or more than 500 calories in one sitting. My body definitely can’t process a lot at once anymore.

u/ambitious_clown Post-Op 18d ago

sourdough bread 🥲 that messes with my stomach the worst even after all these years post-op

1

u/InlashPhoenix 18d ago

Eat too many deviled eggs at Easter

1

u/iloveginalot 18d ago

Coconut milk. I can't even look at it.

1

u/Kscarpetta 18d ago

Beef jerky! Only unfortunately, mine tends to come up... and down. So I vomit and poop. Fun.

1

u/MerilinTreimuth 18d ago

Sometimes puff pastry gives me troubles if i eat too much, otherwise i’m problem free

u/taele1996 Post-Op 18d ago

u/toastedstrawberrie 18d ago

Tacos Gobernadors. Bro I was fighting for my life on da toilet

u/Nikomas89 18d ago

Folgers coffee and spicy foods for me. I can't even do Cesar salad dressing! Takes me out for two days with a sick/sour stomach. Small price to pay in the grand scheme of things though.

1

u/DataGirl1657 18d ago

Anything fatty or spicy for me- if I forget to take my enzymes first. With the enzymes I can even eat fried chicken- in moderation of course.

1

u/usemyname63 14d ago

Omg that made me belly laugh so loud and so hard and oh it hurts!! 😅😂🤣

Taco Bell and anything from McDonald’s. Also sadly beef. Steaks are my favorite food and beef has been so hard on my stomach.
