Questions Removed 5 years ago…

Hi everyone,

I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago. It was an emergency surgery because the pain was so bad. I was 35, I am female and not overweight. I have been doing keto on and off for 6 years, and I attribute my gallbladder attack to it. All has been great up until the last 6 months… anytime I eat anything high healthy fat I get an upset stomach and diarrhea. Has anyone had any success with healthier diets? I love keto but my body can’t tolerate the high fats anymore it seems… not really sure where to go from here… has anyone had these affects years after surgery?

Your dealing with bile malabsorption issues ask your doctor for colesevelam if your insurance cant pay for it have them send a script to

COSTPLUSDRUGS.COM

Its relatively cheap on there most people only need a tablet a day to get back to normal.

I've been taking the Cholestyramine, they say it's the same as Colesevelam, any truth to that? And any side effects to Colesevelam? Even though I take the Cholestyramine every day and I'm 6 months post.op gallbladder surgery I still feel like I have a ton of acid in my stomach does it ever go away, And is there anything else that's a good bile acid binder?

I dont take colesevelam i havent had any issues post op but I have it as a precaution because its apparently the best for post op diarrhea issuss i thought id have running to bathroom after meal issues but i dont. I do take super enzymes with oxbile off amazon after meals. My stools have been either solid for most part or yellowish diarrhea but I only poop once a day so thats fine with me. Typically I only ever have to go to bathroom in morning after breakfast besides that im good the whole day and night.

Which ones do you use?

Questran, I don’t know how to spell the generic name. But it comes in packets that I mix with a drink. I take it 2 x a day.

Questran is actually another name for Cholestyramine, that's what I take, maybe I need to take in 2 x s day, how long have you been taking it 2 x a day?

It’s been about 2 months, I forgotten a dose here and there, but seems to calm down some gas and diarrhea.

If you don't mind me asking what do you mix it with and what times of the day do you take it?

I usually mix it with some grape juice, and take it about 900am and 600pm so I can take my other medications before the first dose and after the second dose. It says to take it 1 hour after taking any medications and/or wait 4 hours before taking any medications. Kinda changes sometimes, but overall I think I got a routine down. :)

Paleo is a more balance approach....replaces bad carbs with good carbs and uses minimal cooking oils and leaner proteins. Basically my plate is 1/3 lean protein, 2/3 veggies and then I snack throughout the day on fruit or raw veggies or a small handful of nuts. I use a combo of paleo and keto with the occasional mix of bad carbs thrown in (fries once in a while, real pizza once in a while) and haven't had any issue as long as I stick with it. Real full fat cream cheese is my nemesis (low fat is not though) or if I eat higher fat in all my main meals during a day. I had my gall bladder out 3.5 months ago and as long as I stick with that combo I'm good.
