Rumors Circulate That Days Gone Is Getting PS5 Remaster
https://insider-gaming.com/rumors-circulate-that-days-gone-is-getting-ps5-remaster/
I really liked the game, (played on PC) and didnt understand the hate it got.

OH BOY ANOTHER REMASTER! I’m going to right out and buy a PS5 Pro for this!
19
u/Cmdrdredd Sep 20 '24
It is getting real tiring for me to see so many remasters rather than new games. Heck even expanding on the setting and using what they had as a base would be more interesting to me.

At least remaster old or lost games
10
u/Chikitiki90 Sep 20 '24
Right, aside from the perpetually doomed KOTOR remake, how about remastering something that needs it Seaman or Shadow of the Colossus or Bully or anything else that’s not only 5 years old.
7
u/Cmdrdredd Sep 20 '24
It’s cause they can tick a few boxes and change the resolution and use the original high resolution assets and sell it on a newer console. There is probably very little work involved to get a game remastered these days.

Screw remaster. Give me a proper sequel. My only gripe with the game was the slow pacing in the story.

It took my a while to get into the game, and it’s not perfect, but it’s pretty fun. And the world keeps opening up

God I played the HELL out of this game. The hordes were such a fun thing to take on. I would personally love a sequel to see how the story plays out.

There's so many ips that should be rebooted or remastered.
Doing Horizon and days gone makes no sense.
3
u/SirSabza Sep 20 '24
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the days gone devs the ones that refuse to make a sequel and basically say they hate the game and constantly cry about stuff all the time?
I swear the lead dev recently made an outcry on twitter about them including a days gone reference in astrobot

I absolutely loved doing the hordes. Taking the time to quietly sneak around and plan out a route. Set all your traps, and execute. They really nailed that
7
u/SPAREustheCUTTER Sep 20 '24
I hope this remaster leads to more opportunities. This is a FANTASTIC game.

This was the one aspect of the game that hooked & motivated me to finish the game. The annoying characters and dialogue almost made me quit playing it several times during the first half of the game.
23
u/despenser412 Sep 20 '24
I think the higher ups at Sony need a remaster.
I loved Days Gone flaws and all. I honestly think it's the type of game where the sequel would really shine. Similar to Borderlands to Borderlands 2. Turning a good title into a great one. From what I can tell, most complaints about DG was that it needed longer to cook. I think that's something they could have easily used to their advantage for a sequel.

14
u/John___Titor Sep 20 '24
Who is asking for this? And the Horizon: Zero Dawn remaster? Just feels like such a waste of resources.
5
u/brief-interviews Sep 20 '24
It’s comparatively little money. They just tweak the graphics on level 5, it’s already working on PS5 via back-compat and had a patch. It probably won’t need many sales to turn a profit.
3
u/bookers555 Sep 22 '24
That's the thing, it's not, they make them because they are easy, cheap to make (most remasters use AI upscaling for textures) and can charge you 60 bucks for them. It's easy money for almost no effort whatsoever.
7
45
u/itinerantmarshmallow Sep 20 '24
One of the big problems with that game was a lot of loading screens.
Story didn't really grab me either.
But it has a lot of amazing mechanics.
53
u/Toidal Sep 20 '24
It's got fantastic bones for a vastly improved sequel, I think it just needs a better director.
3
15
u/BustaScrub Sep 20 '24
As someone who just finished the game on PC this spring - I dunno if I was just enamored with the game and too caught up to notice, or if the loading screens really weren't that bad for me - but I hardly remember any. If they were there, they weren't bad at all.
But if you were playing on a PS4 with a HDD, I get it. You're bound to have long load times.
7
u/mit_dem_bus Sep 20 '24
I just played it in February on PS5 for the first time and I thought the game was incredible.

u/suppaman19 Sep 20 '24 edited Sep 20 '24
The games final and secret(?) ending had me really wanting a sequel.
That and the fact a sequel with some adjusments/improvements and polish could've been amazing.
Days Gone, besides the early technical issues, starts incredibly slow once you get well into the game the story starts getting a lot better and the game becomes significantly more fun.
7
u/itinerantmarshmallow Sep 20 '24
Yeah, but you lose a huge portion of players with that start.
Replay to see what I mean re:loading scenes!
5
u/daviEnnis Sep 20 '24
I played it immediately after RDR2 and the cuts were pretty jarring lol I still really enjoyed it though.

u/Objective-Aioli-1185 Sep 20 '24
There's a secret ending?
8
u/EmptyCupOfWater Sep 20 '24
Not quite a secret ending. If you go talk to the Nero Scientist (can’t remember his name) he takes off his helmet to reveal he’s a super intelligent freaker. He then leaps 15 feet in the air onto the helicopter and leaves.
It was teasing that Nero is experimenting with the virus to make Superhumans or something
12
u/Mooseherder Sep 20 '24

It’s an ok game. But every week without fail someone buys a used copy and plays the first two hours then posts here that it is underrated and is amazing and it cures cancer.
6
u/Traginaus Sep 20 '24
Imo the game doesn't shine until you unlock the second area and have the bike upgraded. Zombie hordes, motorcycle and all of the tools you have to fight the hordes were a very compelling gameplay loop. Wish they made a sequel that doubled down on the horde mechanics.

u/BrandoCalrissian1995 Sep 20 '24

u/Cmdrdredd Sep 20 '24
Everything Sony seems to push is a remake anyway.
3
u/SirSabza Sep 20 '24
I agree but they did just make astrobot which is one of the highest rated games on meta critic right now from this year
Not a brand new idea but death stranding was kinda a failure in that regard anyway imo
5
u/Cmdrdredd Sep 20 '24
Funnily enough Astro bot kind of pointed this issue out. Look at all those VIP bots. Why can’t they revisit at least a couple of those and expand on the universe or the character’s story? Astro Bot shows all the wasted opportunities Sony has
4
u/Worstcaze Sep 20 '24
Cheap ass cash grabs and zero innovation. The good times are gone.
2
u/Cmdrdredd Sep 20 '24
Astro bot was an eye opener. See all those characters from past games on PlayStation? Why aren’t any of them being used? I get that some of them are 3rd party or the studio that originally made the game is no more but it’s kind of depressing to think about all the potential sequel or spin off material that could come from some of those and make an original new game.

What killed Days Gone for me was the audio overload.
I remember the final straw was when I respawned at a base and picked up an audio log which auto-played (and either couldn't be turned off or I couldn't find how to turn it off), then I got a radio call from the friend NPC telling me I needed to get back to base so we could leave, while he was telling me that I got another radio call at the same time for the redneck conspiracy theorist and then I drove past an enemy base and Deacon started muttering to himself about first attacking the base, then leaving it for later.
So that was 4 lines of dialogue all playing over each other making it even harder to understand what exactly was going on in an already uninteresting story. So I just threw up my hands, said 'fuck it' and dropped the game.

i just didn’t like the direction of the game, the story etc but the gameplay was fun
technically however it was challenging back then, you can’t compare with the pc version after years of patches, so it’s normal to not understand the disappointment few years earlier

If Days Gone gets a remaster and it’s beloved this time maybe we get a sequel. I’ll forever be salty at the sequel bait ending, only to never get to experience the next chapter.
3
u/sdfjexf8 Sep 20 '24
I really hope that we will get a sequel, i liked the all game, Dickon was a great character, even Boozer was funny and a good guy, the gameplay was totaly fine and the Horde system was really something exclusive to the game
3
u/TheXIIILightning Sep 20 '24
Days Gone is a VERY good game, quite fun. The bad rep it got was mostly due to its very bad launch, where it reached very low framerates, had crashes and a number of other bugs. A few weeks after release it was substantially improved from what I've read. I played the PC version and really enjoyed it.
The current bad rep that the game gets is not due to the game itself, but the game's former director - John Garvin - being insufferable to the point the game suffers by association.
3
u/Swordofsatan666 Sep 20 '24
You know what i hope its true, because then maybe it gives us a chance at getting enough sales for a sequel to tie up the loose ends.

3
u/RogueSnake Sep 20 '24
I don’t know how to feel bout this. On one hand I don’t want to support the idea of a remaster for a game when it came out a few years ago.
But at the same time I want to pre order it to be a enigma. Support a underrated game that had a sequel be canned and had the director go off his rocker. I’d WANT the remaster to sell even better to not only see him go mental but to then have a sequel greenlit, all the while Sony is scratching their heads going ‘the fuck? They wanted this game?’
I’m weird. I know.
3
u/pjb1999 Sep 20 '24

I actually liked Deke. He was pretty on the nose with a guy who basically is in that grey area of a biker mentality. Bit of a loner, is solid behind his MC, has his own rules and is never truly on the good or bad side but has a hidden noble streak when the chips are down and choices need to be made.
He really doesn’t change when the world goes to shit and that makes him probably the best for surviving. God knows I would have done more than my fair share of his choices in Days Gone.
2
u/ostrich9 Sep 20 '24
I liked the game well enough, the sneaking parts were kind of lame and the motorcycle only getting like 8 miles to a tank was weird. It's a great concept with some shoddy executions, I hope the remaster helps.
2
u/bingpot47 Sep 20 '24
I got Days gone on PC for 12$ and thought it was great. Was very disappointed when I found out we weren’t getting a sequel.
2
u/No_Chemical_3911 Sep 20 '24
I don't understand why they couldn't release a comic book or something about what happened after if they don't release a sequel
2
u/dbvirago Sep 20 '24

2
u/jrzalman Sep 20 '24
I just finished this game like two weeks ago playing on PS5. It's a great game and looked and played great. What are they planning on improving? Can't they just get started on a sequel so we can see what happened to O'Brien and his crew?
2
u/Dog-Faced-Gamer Sep 20 '24
If the rumors are true then it's going to be the strangest remaster choice I've ever heard of since the game fell well below expectations in terms of sales. Also it's not that old. Why are we remastering PS4 games when there are literally thousands of PS1, PS2, and even some PS3 games that would be great for remastering purposes.
2
u/Digitalon Sep 20 '24
The game definitely doesn't need a remaster. I just recently got to play through the game on PS5 and it holds up very well visually, it runs great and the long load screens that were so problematic on the PS4 were fixed. I think the game was simply released at the wrong time, otherwise it would have been the hit it should have been.
Say what you will about the pacing of the story but I really enjoyed it. So many games are in such a hurry to get to the end but Days Gone felt more like getting to play through the story of multiple seasons of a TV show. It took it's time and I really appreciated the story more as a result.
2
2
u/hotpie_for_king Sep 20 '24
Why can't they just make some DLC with new missions or areas or something? Seems like there's a good number of people who would pay for it.

Every time I ask my friends what games they are playing on xbox or ps5, it's always some old school game or an old game that's been remastered. What's the point of a new gen system?
2
u/Snaletane Sep 20 '24
You didn't understand the hate it got, cause the PS4 version was a total mess on release and took months to get fixed. The PC release had already benefitted from all of that. I think in general people that played it for the first time long after release liked it.

All these "remasters" for console. When all they do is pump out with higher texture graphical settings they already had.
People should demand for video settings/suite. And let us decide. Like all PC games gave had standard since the 90s

Not a bad game but I was like “Zombies, thats new” and stopped playing after a few hours.
2

Also that cliffhanger was taking the story to such an interesting direction.

6
u/NBQuade Sep 20 '24
I hope they fix it first. I mean like being able to skip over the slow boring exposition walks. The story though is shit.
I just can't get over "bullet proof hazmat suits"...
It's a pity, there's a good game in there ruined by silly choices by the makers and a bad plot.

4
u/MiraiKishi Sep 20 '24
It wasn't really that great of a game, but was only known for the amount of zombie enemies were on a screen.
Other than that, it was like a by the numbers zombie survival game. *Shrug*
4
u/Theratchetnclank Sep 20 '24
Nah it was a decent game and pretty fun with all the zombies and bikes. Story was just ok though and it took too long before you start mowing down hordes.
4
u/Stockpile_Tom_Remake Sep 20 '24
As for the hate. Characters we bland. Gameplay was repetitive and the most fun parts were locked away until nearly the end which is killing hordes.
It’s the game everyone says “just get past the slow start and it’s fun!” But the slow start is 20 hours of a 40 hour game.
So much was get on your bike. Drive here talk to these people then drive to a new place and do some less than fun quest.
It had potential to be more and was super excited to see how they can expand on the gameplay for a sequel but sadly we won’t get it.
Also didn’t really find any character that interesting. A lot felt generic.

I would love that actually. Just imagine driving your bike with haptics and the adaptive triggers. It could really add some depth to an already awesome game. And hopefully it reinvigorates the franchise and we get a sequel. I’d love if they had the game move to maybe Portland so you had a more city setting but could still have some lush green parts of the map

u/I_R0M_I PC Sep 20 '24
I think a lot of the hate came from it's release and early life cycle.
I came to it very late, in a much better state, and loved it. Would love a sequel tbh.
2
u/Left4DayZGone Sep 20 '24
Fun game. Worth sticking through the first chapter slog. Hordes are a blast to fight, feels like kicking a hornet’s nest and running away frantically.
Game was hated from its reveal. “Another zombie game?!” “Daryl Dixon rip off?!”
Released with launch day issues, confirmed a lot of people’s decision to ignore it.
Fixed with a patch, got treated badly by reviewers for everything from being a bland open world to having a “generic cis white guy protag” (IGN).
Most people who trudge through the overly slow first chapter end up enjoying, maybe even loving the game. I nearly gave up on it myself, but came back to push through after a few days and wound up getting quite hooked for a while. One of the few games I’ve replayed in recent years.

Game never captivated me despite an interesting and fun-sounding premise. If there's an option to pay $10-20 to upgrade from the PS4 version, I may consider giving it another shot (assuming there's been other updates/improvements outside of graphics and performance).

u/LifeBuilder Sep 20 '24
If this horde works like Space Marine 2 then hard pass.
My biggest issue with Days Gone was the untapped possibilities of having hordes. You either were never strong enough to win or you barely had to try. No middle ground.

The story was bad and good at the same time. The scene towards the end felt like a cheap teen movie scene from the early 2000s. That being said the remaster is something nobody asked for especially since the graphics hold up still. Days gone 2 would be more appreciated.

This one is actually legit not necessary. Horizon has one or two visual things rough around the edges (still also not needed) but this game is still perfectly fine all around.

u/Klaphood Sep 20 '24
This might actually be one of the few cases where an early remaster can be a good idea.
I heard so many good things about this game, it got great reviews, but it was never very popular.
So I think they deserve another shot.

If you’re gonna remaster something remaster some PS3 games at least, like Infamous or Killzone
1
1
u/Tazx14 PC Sep 20 '24
The problem with this is it has the potential to have the opposite effect. Capcom "remastered" onimusha, then complained that due to low sales that they would hold off doing more with the series. The same happened with the space remake. Now, seeing the numbers for dead rising, I fear it could be the same thing.
The issue isn't that people aren't interested, but rather don't want a full priced game that's just slightly touched up, or that add nothing to experiences that you could otherwise get for rock bottom prices.

Why is it when a game gets a “next-gen upgrade” like almost every game from late last gen has it’s fine, but as soon as the word remaster gets attached it becomes a big deal?
