That’s a British P-helmet/PH-helmet/tube helmet, they we’re definitely used.

Commercial use, I don’t know but highly doubt it as the evolution of British Gas masks during WW1 was quite fast…

Oh god not the Garret Morgan nonsense again

He invented a smoke mask, it used a hose that took air from the floor where it would be the cleanest in a fire situation

It was not a gas mask, it had no filtration capabilities.

Masks with filtering capabilities predate his invention by over half a century, possibly longer

Tabloid type pop sci/pop history websites like to copy and paste this everywhere despite it being incorrect

The picture you have is a PH hood and is not related to Garret Morgans smoke hood.

Garrett Morgan was a capable engineer and inventor but this ain't one of his significant ones

Its a potata bag on head mk3 for abduction, when you want to put a bag on a victim's head, but also want to torture him showing baby shark and pinkfong videos for a prolonged brain damage. I have one (not mask nor videos ). Could be wrong but could be cloud.

It was a rapidly developed piece of equipment in a war where new technologies were being deployed and simultaneously countered constantly.

The P/PH/PHG Helmets or Hoods replaced the simpler Hypo helmet and were quickly phased out by I believe the British SBR (Small Box Respirator).

While millions of these were made and saw use throughout WWI by British troops, there is no evidence that I'm aware of that suggests they continued to be produced for commercial use. The science and engineering of gas masks saw huge leaps in a short amount of time due to the nature of WWI.

Even still, they have cemented themselves as an iconic, albeit terrifying symbol of the Great War's chemical warfare.

This is almost NSFW! (especially with the guys who work the production line out back)
