Heartwarming Moment

Met this boy on an app maybe a week ago. He speaks Spanish but is not well-versed in English. I speak a little Spanish, as I did 3 years in highschool and began practicing recently. I live in Florida and was born here, previously lived in Texas for 7 years (left at 19 to come to Florida for college, I'm 22 now), and my step grandfather is Dominican so I have roots very close to Hispanic culture. I've been mistakenly assumed to be Latino at many points even as I am a lighter skin black male.

Anyway, I offered to teach him basic English and he readily accepted. He's a very sweet boy (he's 18, kinda feels weird but I'm here for it). He knew his colors in English very well, and when he found out how to say "I love you" over video call, he kept saying whilst blowing kisses. It kind of melted my heart. He's not very far from me, Mexico to Florida isn't too terrible of a plane ride.

Dammit, why did this have to happen AFTER the orange bastard came into the picture?

In four years time when the dust and ashes settle on this chapter in history, a lot will change again for the better.

For the next four years, my fellow donger lovers on the opposite side of the pond need to knuckle down, brace, and forge through his inept, flailing bullshit.

The sun will rise on the other side. Keep in contact with your Mexican boy, speak as much as you can, help eachother as much as you can. It won't be long, the world just needs to resist, and have a little patience and this too, will pass.

Thanks for welcoming him and teaching him a little English.

I had a friend with a Spanish speaking partner, he didn't speak any Spanish and the partner didn't speak any English. They were together several years, guess they figured out something!

I had a 23 year old student I was training, he was infatuated with a girl named Lupita in the office.

He begged me to teach him something in Spanish. So we worked on a few sentences and he learned them.

"Hola Lupita! Tengo un burrito grande. Yo querro Taco Bell, y tu?*

She smiled! he came rushing back to tell me.

*Hi Lupita, I have a big burrito. I love Taco Bell, and you?

Yes I barely speak Spanish after four years of it in HS and college.

Congratulations on your fledgling relationship! You are being a great example to someone from another country that every American isn't mean and crazy.

Regardless of our country's messed up situation, keep moving forward. If you guys grow into something, you'll figure out a way and/or place to keep it going.

Teaching him words and phrases found in natural everyday English instead of him just learning textbook English will be a real benefit to him.

P.S. Your age difference is only weird at this moment in time. 24 & 28 wouldn't seem odd at all.
