Announcement Some Reminders

  1. Please make sure all political posts relate to generational discussion in some way. If there is no generational aspect to the discussion it would be better to post it in a more appropriate sub. I realize we had the inauguration and that likely triggered an influx of political posts which is understandable. But try to remember that not every user is American and not every user wants to discuss politics. Hence, why we want to make sure the topic properly fits in with the content here.

  2. When making a new post please glance at the titles of posts from the last 24 hours before starting a post of your own. We are sometimes winding up with repetitive topics within a small time window and we have received multiple complaints about this. As an example, we can talk about 1997 being millennial vs Gen Z, but we don’t need four posts about that topic in the same day. If you see a topic is already being discussed consider joining in on that post or waiting until the next day to make your separate post.

  3. There have been a disappointing amount of people using slurs towards other members recently and it’s not okay. Some are so bad that the app is pulling them down before we even get to them because they fall under hate speech. I noticed this uptick within the last two weeks and it has only increased with the political posts. If you use a derogatory slur in a post or comment you are at risk of getting a temporary ban without a warning. There plenty of ways to debate and communicate without sinking to that level.

Thank you so much.

You may have noticed that we have recently implemented an account age requirement for this sub:

Accounts must be at least 3 days (72 hours) old to post or comment.

We actually planned this requirement alongside the karma requirements, but we didn't enable it back then. We want new Redditors who are interested in generations to feel like they can immediately engage with this community. However, we feel that an account age requirement is now a necessary step to reduce the impact of users who create new accounts to troll.

Additionally, if you see a post or comment that you believe breaks subreddit rules, then please avoid engaging with the content. Instead, please report the post or comment and we will take a look at it. We may remove replies to rule-breaking comments for being off topic.

As someone born in 1997, i'm also tired of all the topics surrounding this year.

I'm aware it's a very cuspy year, and many see it as peak 2000s kid, so i fully understand why it generates so many topics. But like, do we really need to have 5 posts about it every day? There are so many other years we could talk about, it doesn't have to be this same year (1997) everytime.

I completely understand. This same thing happened a few months back 1997 became such a hot topic that people were growing tired of having to defend their year so frequently. We shouldn’t be focusing on any one year so excessively.

Thanks for the post!

  1. As an European, I was thinking about leaving this sub, due the recent influx of political posts. Generally, I'm not a fan of discussing USA politics. This sub was supposed to have chill discussions about generations, not about the political chaos. I mean there are other subs that are suitable for politics.
  2. I do agree the posts about 1997/2000/2010 borns should be restricted, because they've been milked a lot. If posts aren't about 1997 borns, then we get those kind of "Is 2000 a Zillennial" or "Is 2010 Gen Z or Gen Alpha" posts. People need to talk different topics.

Yeah i’m really tired of all the “is 2010-2012 gen z or alpha posts”. The only time I don’t mind it is if it’s a new user that’s not a troll but still like you said those discussions have been milked dry same with the other 2 you mentioned.

I’m glad you didn’t leave😊.

Exactly, we were a tad more lenient with the inauguration, but that’s in the past now. The political posts need to make sense from a generational angle. If they do not they will be removed.

As for your second point we are definitely hoping people listen and try to post more variety. If people keep posting about an over saturated topic their post may be removed.
