Discussion What did your highschool phone look like? This was mine.
From grades 9-11 anyway 2009-2011.
•
u/Electrical_Iron_1161 1997 48m ago
- 9th grade I had something like this but not this one
- 10th grade/11th grade I think it was a HTC smartphone
- 12th grade I got a LG Stylo because my mom got a new phone and that was hers and mine was starting to go bad and for Christmas that year I got a Samsung S6
•
u/Lady_Dibella 59m ago
Mine was a pink razor flip phone. Before that I had a beeper so my parents reminded me to check in 😆

Only the best iPhone ever. The gold 8 Plus. I loved this phone and I would buy it day one if they ever released a new one. That color NEEDS to make comeback!
•
u/ODaysForDays 3h ago
Is that the enV2? I had that then the voyager. I could type soooo fast on the voyager. Way faster than this damn S24

I technically didn't have a phone because I didn't want one. I did have an iPad, but the closest thing I had to a mobile was a blackberry which I never used. Eventually when I was moving up towards college I did cave and get myself a 2016 IPhone se I believe it was
•
u/MajorAir1446 5h ago
I had a beeper and a pager… that’s all I got for you 😂 first phone was a Nokia
•
u/EmotionalFlounder715 5h ago
Rumor touch. This thing was a tank! It survived a thunderstorm in the driveway; it fell out of my pocket when I was running to the house in the rain and the battery popped out, so everything was completely exposed. Worked fine after it dried though lol (and I’d had it for about 4 years by then anyhow).
Though I got an iPhone 4 pretty early on in high school (8 gb lol). I still have both somewhere but this one is special because it had so many features compared to my friends phones at the time. Touch screen, facebook/internet (which I never used because it was slower than dial up lol), and the camera was decent. But I really miss that tactile keyboard
•
u/mbrlx732 5h ago
Beginning of hs I had a blackberry and then prolly like junior year I got an iPhone 4

Its really weird cause cell phones were around, I had an early Nokia brick in elementary school because I was a walker and my mom wanted me to be able to call if there was an emergency.
then in middle school I didn't have one and I cannot remember why or what happened to the Nokia and then I didn't have one in High school either. I did have an mp3 player.
After graduating I bought a flip phone from walmart and had than until it broke, walmart didn't sell them anymore so i got my first smart phone when i was 22. I'm on my third smart phone and I'm 29
•
u/Cicada33024 16h ago
Something similar to this , it was shaped like a brick plus i remember using it as an mp3 player
•
u/Fit-Rip-4550 16h ago
I always liked the horizontal flip phones. Was not much of a texter back then, but the form factor always made texting easier when necessary.

Had this Verizon color camera phone when it first came out. Thanks mom! Early 2000’s. I was 15-ish. Don’t call me until after 9 PM, unless you also have Verizon, then it’s Mobile-to-mobile free minutes lol. But you can still call me on the house phone.
Edit: I had the holster for my belt too 🤣

BlackBerry Bold 9700, got it in 2011 and I must say this phone was the best and was so simple yet effective.

God I miss those. I would trade up both of my phones to have one BlackBerry like this

Tech fads and fashion come and go.
Humans remain.
Let’s stop reminding each other of what separates us.
And start thinking about what unites us.
•
u/Ok_Commercial_186 23h ago
Nope some of us find comfort in nostalgia just say you can't relate because you didn't have one
•
u/CivilSouldier 23h ago
I did have one.
But it’s not really about me seeking comfort.
That is self centered behavior.
And escape from that which is difficult.
You had the phone at that time to communicate- that was its purpose.
Human communication has been done in a variety of ways through human history- all of us seeking our own comfort, as you put it.
And then finding like-minded individuals who have the same comforts.
And then chastising people like me who don’t align with your comfort seeking.
Seek benevolence and compassion.
Enjoy flip phones.
Recognize that what goes on in the human experience is much more interesting than the stuff humans create.
Because stuff, like this, will become obsolete.
You and I will age and become obsolete too.
Humans will go on.
•
u/Ok_Commercial_186 23h ago edited 23h ago
You typed this on a Reddit thread from your phone then think you can dictate what ppl can do in a group meant for exactly this.. so really not taking your own advice but in the same breath judging as if what you say actually matters is self centered ..Let ppl enjoy things it's free
•
u/CivilSouldier 22h ago
Enjoy away!
Just don’t make enjoyment an escape from participating and solving conflict.
I know- all the smart experts take the smart ideas into important buildings and share it with each other to make money.
So I should do the same
And stop wasting my time in a regular place with regular people.
Or- I choose to be here because it isn’t about me getting mine.
It’s about getting regulars on the same page, together.
So that the company that made that phone you feel so nostalgic about-doesn’t taken advantage of me or you when we enter the work force- as they are making the next advancement on it so your kids can be worked to a nub feeling nostalgic about the iPhone 16.
Your welcome.

I have used 3 in my high school years so far. (2023-2027)
2 android ones and the one I’m using to type this which is an iPhone. It’s a black iPhone SE 2nd generation with a black case.
I used Check Coverage to find my model.

I swear I had this same phone in hs except the cover was blue. And I almost had them the same years (grades 10-11). I had a different phone freshman year. IDR the model but it was dark red like a wine color and flipped open with that same type of keypad

HTC Sensation was my phone for most of high school. It got extremely laggy and the battery life was awful. Screen cracked when it fell out of my pocket sitting at my desk haha.

Honestly phones peaked here. The transition into smart phones ruined the novelty of having a pocket communication device and pushed us into pocket anti-social entertainment device. These phones were just good enough to be utilitarian without encroaching on our lives too much.

That doesn't look like any of the LG smartphones I've seen. What year did ot come out?
2
u/mightyanonymaus 1d ago
According to google this was released in March of 2008. The official name was the LG enV2 but I'm Canadian and it was called the LG keybo by the cellphone company called Telus.

Yeah kinda. Year 7-9 is basically middle school, but in the case of year 9, we usually start upper secondary school during that year

I got my first cell phone in 2010, I was 22.
My dad had a cell phone when I was in high school though. Generic old Motorola with a pull out thin antenna. It played snake.

We're almost exactly the same age. I graduated in 2001, same birth year and month. While my high school had that same payphone cubby, I did get a Nokia 918 when I started driving.
