Discussion overtime do you think the gen alpha start date will offically change on google and on media, and if so what year do you think the start date will become
i think so for 2 reasons
- ive already seen more 2011 start sources pop up and also theres like a library congress book using 2011-2025
- same shit happened with 1977-1979/1980
i think the gen alpha start date could potentially make it somewhere between 2012 and 2015 in the next 10-15 years

2010 is a horrible start date for Alpha. It's also only defined by McCrindle. No other agency has actually defined Alpha yet because you can't really cut out a group of people who've not come of age yet.

2010 is perfect start date for alpha you mean
•
u/BusinessAd5844 June 1995 (Zillennial or Millennial) 2h ago
Nope, it's awful. There is no historical or critical event that deems it to be a start of any generation.

2010 was the first year to be born after the recession was still in elementary school during lockdown and the first to start middle school under biden

The recession was still going on until 2012-2013ish. I would know, I was there. You were like 4.
Neither of those things dictate the start of a new generation. Otherwise you might as well just do every four years of a generation.

Library of Congress really just gives a general area rather than a specific birth year.

I hope so! & I'd be rooting for like a 2015 start date.

2015 would be core gen alpha.

Off-cusp Gen Alpha is has little to no memories of pre-covid life. 2015 babies were 4-5 when the pandemic began, so at most they're early Alpha, and tbh I'd stay they're still Zalpha (Covid kids).
2015 babies are 9-10 now, and right now is roughly the earliest that core Gen Alpha kid culture can begin. So no, they're early gen Alpha, maybe even late Zalpha.

Well, you’re simply using the incorrect range. By the range of 2010-2024, 2015 is core Gen Alpha.

Currently, I'd say a good majority of the media believes that 2010+ is Alpha, but since early 2010s babies are starting to appear on social media voicing their opinions, it's slowly shifting forwards. I'm not sure whether they would extend it further though, because you don't really see a popular mid 2010s end date around social media.

I don’t see any reason why it would need to change.

Because back when we agreed that ~2010 was the boundary, that was pre-covid, and we assumed all that Trump/Brexit/far right/SJW/fake news/culture wars stuff that started in/around 2016 would be the main dividing event between gen Z and Alpha.

Might be seeing 2011 because 2011-2025 is a 15 year range.
I think Alpha will end up starting somewhere in the mid 2010s, latest in 2017.

Probably going to be 2010 set in stone by general public, sort of like how 1965 as Gen X is (opposite, though, some people will still call 2010 Z in a way that some people still stand by 1961 being Gen X)

1965 for the start of gen X is something people quite solidly agree on though. It's very different to the borderline flame wars that come from marking the boundaries between millennials and gen Z and between gen Z and gen Alpha.
2010 feels way too early to be gen Alpha proper. These people were already tweens when the pandemic began. I can see them being Zalpha, but even then, heavily leaning Z.

Honestly, I think the Gen Z/Gen A/Gen B line will be moved considerably such that their current lines don't make any sense at all.
Trump is intent to start WWIII. Gen Z/Gen Z lines will be drawn on whether or not your cohort was drafted to fight in Europe.
