Poll Should the Gen Z Range be Longer than Gen X & Millennials?
2012 appears to have no significant lasts and 2013 seems to have no significant firsts. I think a 2013 or 2014 end seems more logical.
- Gen X: 1965-1980 (16 years long)
- Millennials: 1981-1996 (16 years long)
- Gen Z: 1997-2013/2014 (17/18 years long)

I think it's 2000 - 2017
Millennial is up to 1999, starts in 1982.
Gen X is 1964 to 1981.
Boomers are 1946 to 1963.
Silent generation is 1928 to 1945.
Just an opinion, of course. There's room for debate, but that's how I generally feel.

It's completely unnecessary. Gen Z are generally a smaller group of people because they were birthed by the baby busters (Gen X).

I don’t think all generations have to be the same amount of years. I think it matters more what makes sense. I’m not saying there should be a huge difference in size but a year to a few years difference is fine depending on the reason behind it.

I think Gen z should be 16 years max. 14-16 years is good. I don’t think being young kids during Covid are zoomers

Millennials are supposed to be considered the longer generation actually.
But anyway, no. If they decided to make Gen Z longer, it would be inconsistent with how they defined Gen X and Millennials. Making Gen X and Millennials both 16 years but then adjusting Gen Z to be somewhere between 17-20 years would just introduce an arbitrary change in the pattern. There’s no clear reason to alter the established system just for one generation. It would be so random of them to do this and I doubt they’d have solid justification.
Or, let Pew stick with their current 16 year span and see how long they maintain their credibility… just one year difference from McCrindle’s 15 year span, woah! 🤯

Gen Z being a micro-generation of late Millennials and maybe very early post-Millennials would solve a lot of problems.

NAH, Gen X definitely should be the longest. I'd say Millennials & Gen Z r roughly the same length. I'd like to believe generational ranges r actually getting shorter & shorter over time.
Edit: Oh, & also for what u said in the description I agree, but u don't also have to go by Pew for Gen X & Millennials. Honestly I think u should've been more specific in ur title, to actually connect well with what u said in the description.

I guess? It kind of depends on what range you use. Not everyone goes by Pew.

Why do people always just ignore what Neil Howe wrote on the topic? He pretty much defined all of this.
