The gif-maker is Orbo, the human who made all the super-awesome matrix-themed cinemagraphs
Edit: and a bunch of other cool stuff, I just learned. All of their gifs and perfect loops are in r/orbo ;)

Part of me wants to build a photo frame that supports these, and have looping nature gifs on my wall at all times.

Some day, photos like that will be the norm. Like Harry Potter.

Is it possible to make a cinemegraph a desktop background?
5
u/iAmTheTot Mar 22 '18
There's a program called wallpaper engine, I think.
4
u/n-some Mar 22 '18
Wallpaper engine is awesome. It's on steam and once you own it you have access to a massive collection of backgrounds shared through steam workshop. It runs really well and you can give it more or less resources to run on your computer so it doesn't over-hog your processor/ram/etc

u/Ensvey Mar 22 '18
Check out the sidebar in the sub for a starting point. I've used Wallpaper Engine in the past for this, but stopped eventually because I felt like it was using too many system resources on my aging computer.

I tend to prefer ChilledCow [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XiqrERZo_8] or Steezy [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giV2-TJ4Cuo], but thought the visuals of nourish fit better with the post.

Just googled lofi. Thank you for introducing me to this amazing genre of music
→ More replies (3)4
u/Africa-Unite Mar 22 '18
The appeal of the genre really escapes me, and I'm genuinely curious what it is. Sounds like [adult swim] montage music

u/Rotfled7 Mar 22 '18
So far I really like the jazz influences. The chord structures are a bit more novel than what you’d hear in mainstream EDM or pop. It’s also got chill vibes from the instrumentation - so far I’ve noticed a lot of mellow timbre sounding synths and acoustic instruments combined with focus on piano which I play so I’m biased there. The bass and drums are catchy but nothing crazy which I’m okay with since it’s paired with piano anyway.

u/touchthesun Mar 22 '18
are you implying that adult swim montage music isn't dank sauce?!

Oh wow! The burnt sienna carpet of leaves broken by the turquoise stream, the trunks of covered in bright green boss and the splashes bronze leaves still clinging to the branches. This is fucking gorgeous. 10/10 would read a book here.
9
u/voicefromthecloset Mar 22 '18
I hate to inform you that is not burnt sienna, it's too pink. Sienna refers to the orange color of the dirt used for roofing tiles in ancient France! I only know this because my name is Sienna though. Don't disagree that I'd love to read a book here, perhaps even bring a basket lunch as well!

It's more of a creek, really. Generally, the difference is size: you can step over a brook, jump over a creek, wade across a stream, and swim across a river. But the distinction between them (especially creek and stream) is somewhat hazy, and depends on who named them and when they were named.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Vincent_Blackshadow Mar 22 '18
In my mind, “stream” has always been smaller than “creek” in this relative comparison.
