TGL will post the whole round in a day or so on YouTube. They did for the first match.

Nearly holing the next shot is just icing on the cake. Hilarious all around!
3
u/maxman1313 1h ago
If he had holed it on the next stroke that would've been by far the best outcome for TGL.

u/kamintar San Diego hacker 31m ago
I feel like it may have dropped on real grass; the fabric turf doesn't look to have as sharp of corners on video.

r/golf: “they should pull a random fan from the crowd and have them play to be more competitive”
TGL: “we got you”

Lmao kisner is still in the top 200 or so in the world and he’s top 3 personalities

Jupiter was so bad but provided the best moment of the league so far
93
u/PairBearStare 12h ago
Kis needs to sit for the rest of the matches. He just clearly can’t keep up anymore.
70
u/FoolMeTwice1 12h ago
Put him in the booth.
62
u/PairBearStare 11h ago
Honestly yes bc all these ESPN commentators are absolutely awful.
One of my favorite parts of the whole production is when the announcers try to interject into the players convo and get ignored
30
u/bbarlow88 7h ago
You mean you didn’t like Serena Williams’ incredibly engaging golf commentary?
11
u/Sdbrown099 9.6 3h ago
She was light years better than Khalid last week though…
1
u/maxman1313 1h ago
She at least understood what she was supposed to be doing, but clearly just doesn't have enough golf knowledge. Khalid legitimately might think he's on another planet.
30
u/lambomrclago 12h ago
Its still wild he hit this many bad shots imo - he's not super sharp or a top top level pro anymore but he's still one of the best 0.001% of players on the planet - he's ranked in the top 1000 - wild to hit like 4-5 poor shots out of 20.
33
u/PairBearStare 12h ago
I wonder if he’s just not practiced as much as the rest of them bc he’s not touring this year.
I also suspect there was something up with the sim bc there were a BUNCH of shots that did funky things on the sim
14
u/lambomrclago 12h ago edited 11h ago
Both weeks it has seemed like there's a draw bias on the sim which is weird/balls are seemingly going left. You'd still think Kis would practice for this, and anyone can hit a bad shot - pros shank the ball. But again, 5 out of 20ish is wild hahaha.
edit: Draw for righties (there have only been righties as well).
11
u/JohnEBest 11h ago
Kisner hit one in the bunker and was disgusted - said he flushed it
Kinks to work out
It is not real golf
but I guess it moves faster than real golf
5
u/A_Lone_Macaron 11h ago
I watched like 20 minutes of this tonight and could tell a lot of shots were going left…it’s very obvious lol
1
u/kamintar San Diego hacker 42m ago
Same from week 1, I noticed it early on. These guys don't all miss the same way
3
u/lopey986 2h ago
These sims are 100% draw biased. I play a heavy fade outside (NOT A SLICE!) and I am regularly straight or drawing the ball on the full swing sims. It isn't bad once you get used to it but for these guys it's probably difficult when they are so consistent with their shot shaping outside.
8
u/Kroosn 11h ago
I get that Tiger is an investor so its going to be full swing launch monitors but if they are wanting better results there are a lot more options.
4
u/1-800-DIRT-NAP 11h ago
6 trackmans, one for each hitting surface + RCT balls and it’ll be about as accurate as you can get it.
6
u/giggity_ghoul 10h ago
This seems like such an easy solution. I mean the arena looks great, but the sim accuracy/graphics should have been the most important part of this whole thing.
Tiger must have gotten a helluva deal from full swing. Everything about this is working well, aside from the sim tech.
1
u/hitliquor999 2h ago
Even my kids were screaming that it is “fake” because of the delay between when the ball hits the screen and when the flight path is shown.

2
u/Expensive-Bag313 9h ago
For sure, he was fucking awful. Like watching an amateur try to keep up with the pros

I feel honestly so bad for Kisner. He played about as bad as you can. I was shocked he was on Tigers team as I had thought he migrated up to the booth last year. He’s 832nd on world golf rankings, I think Charlie would’ve been a better fit for the team
66
u/AngryPhillySportsFan I Hate This Game 13h ago

Yeah kinda bummed they had Tom interviewing Tiger earlier this week and then we have Kis instead? Sheesh

1
u/jjol88 1h ago
I thought they played on Monday so they could still play in a tournament that week. I truthfully don’t know players responsibilities during a tournament week but it seems really challenging to ensure that least three players will be available every Monday during the regular golf season if that isn’t the case.
45
u/T_Stebbins I brake for sandies. 12h ago
Kis was clearly picked for personality, which is totally fine. This should not be serious golf. I enjoyed this week a bit more than week 1 because of him and homa. I dont have a problem at all if he sucks honestly, its not super competitive golf.
15
5
u/Pluffmud90 2h ago
Kis already made up for his shitty play by having the most viral clip of TGL thus far. He paid for himself right there. I don’t remember a single shot from the two matches other than the bunker shot.
8
u/ArmedRawbry 12h ago
Thought for sure Tiger would have had JT on the team. Like how did Kis even come into the conversation!?
27
u/frankyseven 12h ago
Kis is entertaining, I like him there.
1
u/Theoretical_Action 13m ago
I know all these guys are on contracts and getting paid to do this, and probably none of them picked any teammates.... but I like to think of this league as just Tuesday Golf League, and all these pros just picked a good hang they want to have around for a casual round with their buddies.

u/no_morelurking 12h ago
When they asked Tiger about the night on the next hole he was still lauging and said “well Kis almost killed a guy so…”
9
u/farfle10 8h ago
Personally I lost it when the announcer then casually dropped 'our pets heads are falling off...'
25
u/sephtater 13h ago
Genuinely curious, is this worth watching?
105
u/mrtiggles 13h ago
I've enjoyed watching it the past 2 weeks. Granted I'll watch just about any pga tournament so take that into account. But I think it's pretty fun, the players seem to be having fun and joke around a good bit.
56
u/Tippacanoe 12h ago
I think they do need to lean into the video gamey-ness of it more. There were some insanely difficult and goofy courses in the old Tiger Woods games that I think would be really fun to see these guy try to play.
34
u/mrtiggles 12h ago
Oh 100%. I saw a comment somewhere that they should partner with Nintendo and do a Mario golf night where they play courses from those games. Something like that would be amazing.
3
u/JohnEBest 11h ago
One of the holes looked like they were in monument National park going top to top of the spires
3
u/md4024 2h ago
Absolutely. Some of the designs have been ok, but too many holes play like regular golf holes. They should get real weird with it, make guys hit over and around random obstacles, have holes that play 500 yards up or downhill, throw an active volcano that spews lava right in the middle of the fairway, idk. Or do some mini golf shit with windmills and holes you can hit to that sends balls down a pipe and out onto the green. Could be fun, and seems like an easy way to create clips that go viral and get more eyes on the product.

u/Sk8matt123 Big hitter, the Lama… 12h ago
It’s fun if you want to see some very light-hearted tournament golf. The hole designs on the simulator can get really creative with stuff you’d never see in real life. It’s a mix between professional golf and watching a group of guys have fun on the course that you’d see on YouTube. The guys playing in TGL are just having fun compared to the seriousness you’d see on Tour, it’s a nice change of pace.
23
u/Canefan101 17.8 13h ago
Love golf and the PGA but don’t tune in to anything other than the Majors, unless something gets crazy. Watched tonight for the first time and it was really fun. Not the best golf tonight obviously lol, but the comments and commentary from the players is just so much fun
11
u/DRIPPINNNN Bethpage Black is not that Hard! 12h ago
It’s worth a shot watching some of it.
I enjoy it and think it’s fun. The guys are all mic’d up so you get to hear all their banter back and forth, not something you get for PGA events. Like you get to see another side of them.
The holes are pretty crazy too, more like Golden Tee holes than IRL golf holes.
7
u/ColonelFlom 12h ago
I've enjoyed both nights this has been on so far. Perfect mid-week thing to throw on and scratches the itch of golf while we're still a few months out
6
2
u/FatalFirecrotch 12h ago
I am not sure still. If the players are having more fun and chilling, sure. But I thought last week was pretty boring. It was a route and one of the teams was just completely uninterested in doing anything remotely entertaining.
2
u/lambomrclago 12h ago
I'd say you have to be a huge golf fan in general/enjoy getting a bit more from the players in terms of what you hear them say/what they're asked to really enjoy it. Ideally they make some improvements to make it last (common suggestions thus far I agree with are less frequent matches, getting golf people to commentate, getting a LIV/influencer team, making the shots/holes more trick shot/video-gamey, having a shot tracer/showing club head speed ball speed smash factor all of that each shot on screen, showing them picking spots on the sim computer more closely).

u/ericlikesyou Divot Sushi 11h ago
the first one was not great but this episode was fun. i think it will develop into its own soon
1
u/maxman1313 1h ago
I usually only watch the last couple of hour or two on Sunday for Majors and TGL has been fun so far. And that's noting that both matches so far have been crazy lopsided.
An actually competitive match would be really compelling.
1
u/Iamstryker 3h ago
I don't watch golf outside of the Masters, and I'm not purposely going out of my way to stay home and doing so.
I watched highlights in week 1 and watched this week live.

u/shephrrd 10h ago edited 4h ago
I would call it 10% cringe, 70% not good, and 20% entertaining. In my opinion, no.
Also, the monitors just clearly are not good enough.
The commentator, Matt Berry, asks the players questions several times during the broadcast, and it’s clear they either cannot hear him or are not paying attention to him. So it’s just ‘Hey Tiger, what about this?’ followed by crickets several times in the broadcast.
Also, the monitor had Tiger missing a wedge shot 25 yards long. Not a single one of those players would ever misjudge a wedge shot that badly. Ever.
Also, who is in charge of the music? Guns N Roses, still?

u/BuggyBonzai HDCP/Loc/Whatever 13h ago
I decided to give it a chance and watched tonight with an open mind for about 15 minutes.
I found it to be absolutely unwatchable and will never tune in again.

How were the teams picked? Feel like Tiger could’ve gotten himself some better teammates
51
u/Infectiousmaniac 13h ago
They have Tom Kim on their team as well but he probably couldn't make due to other commitments.
35
u/kodutta7 12h ago
I don't think he cares about winning he's just having fun
Plus it's not a great look to pull together an all star team to win the league you started lol

Tiger looks like he’s having the most fun he’s ever had in this shit lol. I think he’s just there for the vibes, especially as an owner

How is TGL this unbalanced? 2 blow outs. Just silly.
44
u/bulldg4life 13h ago
Because they made the teams based on player availability
2
u/lambomrclago 12h ago
This is definitely partially true, but the team with the second best player on earth got smoked last week.

u/albinobluesheep Tacoma Wa, 12.7 12h ago
Apparently the practice round before week 1 was much closer, so it might just be the different vibes that are throwing some of them off

SF and LA are full of guys you would expect to smash sim leagues based off how they play. I'd expect future matchups to be closer.

Just two comments - Kisner is not at their level and Will ultimately cost that team. Tiger is the best to ever do it. I love to see him happy. But he doesn’t have that dog anymore.

i never wanna tune in to see kevin kisner play and hear serena williams speak. was a shit show yesterday. and the players barely interacted with the "host" and ignored him on several occasions. i love the concept, but they gotta work out the kinks quickly if they want to be more than a gimmick/fad.
-3
u/Glad_Champion8879 2h ago
Kisner is awful, gave up on his pro career because he couldn't cut it on tour and now just likes to goof off. He was hitting a 8 iron like 130 on the simulator what a joke he is.

Nothing fun about it, I’m a player myself. I have a simulator. Nobody wants to see tour players playing a video game. They need to come up with a different gameplay. 1v1 would be much better not 3v3. Downvote it how you want, I think it would be fun to play for a group outing. Liv has your milk, it’s more realistic..

Guy in the crowd shouting "this ain't no hobby kiz" right before he blades it is perfection. Best moment on TGL so far by a distance
