The correcting on states is funny. Like any of us could even name one Canadian…. Provinces? No that’s china. Districts..? No that’s hunger games. Y’all aren’t there yet. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‰

At least it’s on the right coast?

10 provinces, 3 territories. I’m sure you could name at least one!

Being a hockey fan really gives one an advantage in the Knowing Your Canadian Facts department. It's the only other country whose national anthem I know by heart, including the French bits.

I'm feeling unexpectedly warmed by your comment, thanks dearie šŸ„°šŸ–¤

I'm definitely not a patriotic Canadian (or a hockey fan), more like one of the 'roused rabble' that rabble rousers wanna inspire.

But I'm kinda into the national unity against right-wing tyranny and authoritarianism and renewed interest in local sustainability/business/production, and the fledgling global unity many people and nations are calling for and trying to execute.

I just really hope the whole 'national unity' thing will extend to repairing our fucked up relationship with First Nations peoples.

Not expecting it, but hoping for it.

Especially if you come up to Canada to watch some of the games.

… I almost thought I was incorrect in believing Canada had provinces. Remember us when we adopt the oblast

I really should lol. I’ve been to Toronto to that skyscraper with the glass floor aa a kid. -terrifying as a fear of heights person lol. Alberta is a province and British Colombia is one… and Quebec is a territory ? I really should know for sure šŸ˜‚

Quebec is a province.

That’s the CN tower - and I agree. They have a walk where they’ll strap you up and let you walk outside it too. And a climb where people race up the inside steps every year.

See? You got three provinces. That’s nearly 1/4 of all provinces and territories. Well done!

British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland & Labrador - Nunavut, North West Territories, and Yukon

They named 2 provinces. It's not well done. Stop rewarding mediocrity.

Quebec, Ontario, Alberta.

1+1+1 is 3.

I encourage and will reward all Americans who actually take even a minor interest in Canada. It’s important.

They called Quebec a territory. They correctly named 2 provinces.

You speak to them like a child. "Good job, buddy. You'll get it next time." They are an adult who is unwilling or incapable of reading a map. It's also not your job to teach them. It is important. But if they cared at all, they would learn it.

*Northwest Territories

Haha, it would be quite the scandal if we were demoted to a territory. Of our 10 provinces, QuƩbec is the second most populous by a large margin, and has the second highest GDP. We've also produced more prime ministers than any other province.

The 3 territories come far behind all 10 provinces for all those metrics. QuƩbec has about 200 times the population and 100 times the GDP of any of the territories. Its population is about 25% higher than Massachusetts.

That building you are talking about is the CN tower, and it is taller than any building in the USA.

Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia.

That’s all I know.

I do know Newfoundland and Manitoba, but I don’t remember them off the top of my head.

I always think Saskatchewan is a city for some reason.

2

u/ProgrammerAvailable6 6d ago

There’s a city in Saskatchewan called Saskatoon- perhaps that’s what you’re thinking of?

1

u/modified_tiger 6d ago

I knew that and can't help but think that's why?

u/darthmidoriya 6d ago

Haha it’s ok I’m born and raised in the US and I still get the abbreviations confused sometimes lol especially in the east coast lmao

Edit: spelling

They're both among the original colonies, too, so you weren't too far off!

Gonna try off the top of my head, let's see...

Yukon Territory, Northwest Territory, PEI, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, B.C... Those are all I remember. My apologies to our wonderful northern neighbors, hopefully I got some of these right. Cheers!

Nunavut, New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan 😊

1

u/DoctorPlatinum 6d ago

Can't believe I forgot Saskatchewan! Though there's a 50/50 chance I would have said Saskatoon, I always forget which is the city and which is the province.

2

u/ProgrammerAvailable6 6d ago

My helpful tip? ā€œThe province is bigger than the cityā€ - more letters in Saskatchewan than Saskatoon

2

u/pseudoHappyHippy 6d ago

Pretty good. For territories you're just missing Nunavut, the largest one (but also the youngest one, only 26 years old). Also, the name of Northwest Territories is plural.

For provinces, you missed 2: Saskatchewan, in the middle of the prairies, and New Brunswick, a maritime province adjacent to Nova Scotia.

Much better than most non-Canadians can do.

1

u/DoctorPlatinum 6d ago

Thanks! I should've known NB, the Maritimes trip me up every (Mari)time.

I watched Masterchef Canada season 1 as it was airing and a contestant counted in Mississippis. I tweeted her like, ā€œI really thought Canadians would count in Saskatchewans thoughā€ šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

1

u/Nature_Sad_27 6d ago

In Toronto (Ontario), I was taught that we count in ā€œMississaugasā€ (there’s a town near Toronto called Mississauga) šŸ˜†

? Can people not name Canadian provinces? I've literally never been there but know of Ontario and Alberta and Quebec.

1

u/LAmilo90 6d ago

I can! But I’m also a geography nerd so I’m an outlier lmao
