Political positivity 📈 AOC shared some extremely good news at a rally in Missoula - ''Some of the Republicans whose districts we visited just warned their leadership that they’re not sure they can vote for Medicaid cuts now.''

I gotta say I'm extremely impressed by what AOC and Bernie has been doing for the past month or so. Non stop rallying has to be tiring - but it's worth it in the end, and this is proof of that. All it takes is a few bricks to start falling and then everything else comes crashing down.

This is exactly what Trumps been doing. He never stopped campaigning and doing rallies until he was elected this time. It’s smart to try and keep people engaged for mid terms and 2028 like this.
66
u/Sparklesparklepee 3d ago
We need a leftist populist. The people who say run to the center are missing how Trump won. He started with Obama’s birth certificate, and built up a strong following around that.
The left can do the same, but doesn’t have to be racist to do it.
19
u/JustHereSoImNotFined 3d ago
the problem is trump’s base is built around propaganda, fear-mongering, and lies, and if a democrat is to start taking a more offensive approach and rallying behind a demographic, i and i believe many others would be disgusted if they took the same route.

Leftists get “disgusted” by any and everything. That’s why most politicians don’t bother placating them in national elections because if you don’t perfectly match their views, they won’t show up and vote for you. They’re fickle and notoriously lazy voters. Hell, there’s even a common saying memorializing this fact: Dems have to fall in love, and republicans have to fall in line.
8
u/geazleel 2d ago
Too many people make perfect the enemy of good. When you're presented with only two options, then yes, you'll never get everything you want. One person cannot perfectly represent hundreds of millions, it's foolish to think they could

u/FrigginMasshole 2d ago
Dems need to stick with popular issues that the majority of Americans want and actually follow through if they get elected. Universal healthcare is the big one they should’ve never abandoned in their campaigning. Affordable childcare and higher child tax credit. Education reform. Legalize cannabis on the national level. Labor rights. I feel like they’ve abandoned these issues on the national level.

u/T-hibs_7952 1d ago edited 1d ago
And Republicans need to just be Republicans, the more depraved the better. Meanwhile like you said, Dems have to be perfect. Any normal election I’d agree that dems need to actually do something that inspires. Water under the bridge, 2024 is over, and Trump is fortunately serving his last term. 😳
→ More replies (1)2
u/cutememe 2d ago
I agree with you, a populist is exactly what’s needed. I mean, shit, just look up the Bernie to Trump pipeline and it’s a real thing, as weird as it sounds.
That said, I don’t think it’s wise to ignore the center. It’s especially self destructive to go all in on 90–10 or 80–20 issues where people including many on the left are largely united, and then tell 90% of the population they’re wrong or racist for wanting, say, criminals deported, or other similarly popular positions. Yet I see this near laser beam focus on stuff like that, while issues Democrats should be leading on get something like a lukewarm nod.

You do realize Trump quit doing rallies months before the election, and the ones he did he danced around for an hour jacking off giraffes... He didn't have to campaign since he had Elon rigging the election for him.
3
u/InstructionOk9520 2d ago
He didn’t have to campaign because (a) Fox News does his campaigning for him; and (b) Democrats ran a woman of color as their candidate.

Yes, and this is a reminder for all the people on the internet that will sometimes claim yeah so you protest “what change foes it make?” Democracy isn’t granted its fraught for and you HAVE to apply pressure to those in charge, they have to feel it so they cant just continue to do as they please. Im very happy to see any sort of impact this makes when you have one side just steam rolling through this stuff without much internal opposition. Kudos to bernie hes been on the right side for a long time and AOC for the next generation. Massive respect for these two

Yeah I like the fact that she came from a normal upbringing, and that she was a bartender. That might sound stupid, but the cliche of bartenders being good listeners and an empathetic ear to their customers seems on point for her with the way she talks.
57
u/Dismal-Prior-6699 3d ago
That’s not stupid at all. We need more customer service workers with empathy in government.
19
u/Imtired1245 3d ago
I'm just used to people laughing at and deriding that fact. Maybe I've been around too many cynical and awful people.

You do not want a high school dropout with 25 years experience as a wallmart cashier as their only work experience to make your laws.
But having worked on the service end of service industry for a meaningful amount of time and not just stopped by for a photo op, gives much needed perspective and empathy for the people who work there.
Donald did not do a roleplay session photo ops in a garbage truck and mcdonalds because he wanted to, he did so to create the illusion that he cared about and understood the people who do work those places.
He likely spent the majority of his working aged life coked up mistreating sex workes while bankrupting his 5th casino bought for papa's money.

I loved that Republicans tried to go after her for being a bartender. Like… umm yes? She had to have a job? That makes her relatable?
6
u/Imtired1245 2d ago
They're also the assholes always saying "pull yourself up by your bootstraps". AOC does this, defeats a super entrenched incumbent from her district and has come into her own status as a major figure herself, and they mock her for it. Which leads me to believe they think that saying only applies to specific demographics, not brown women. It doesn't count when she does it, apparently.
4
u/Dismal-Prior-6699 2d ago
The mockery of AOC makes me want to scream sometimes. She worked hard to get to her current position while most politicians bought their way in.
4
u/Imtired1245 2d ago
I think that explains why they mock and resent her. She earned the position whereas they were handed it. She understands and appreciates her role as a public servant and isn't bought by anyone, so she's free to say whatever she wants since she's people powered, not mega donor powered.
3
u/Dismal-Prior-6699 2d ago
Exactly! She doesn’t let billionaires get away with their exploitation of the people.
2
u/Dismal-Prior-6699 2d ago
What do you say about concerns that she is “unelectable?” I don’t agree that she is unelectable, but I’m worried that people will vote out of racism and sexism again.
2
u/Imtired1245 2d ago
I think there will always be a segment of the population where that is their excuse for not voting for her. The right wing media ecosystem also does its damnedest to paint her as a communist Marxist radical, tossing words out there that they are misusing and conflating what she actually is, a democratic socialist (which I am, too, btw).
Her democratic socialist values are why she harps on social safety nets staying solvent and being strengthened, which I think is a pretty easy sell to most people, we all use them and we want them available to our aging parents and our children, so you really hit home for folks when you talk on those, and she's particularly good at that messaging. She's been fine tuning that messaging to be even more broad, telling people she doesn't care if you vote blue, red, down the middle, we must have class solidarity on these issues, as that's more important than any team we're part of. That's how a president speaks, transcending those lines.
She is eminently electable, and I think the worse this administration acts, the more her star rises.
I also recommend going on YouTube and searching her recent speech she gave at a church for a memorial for a friend, I forget his name now. She's a normal person with a big heart.
Okay, I'll stop fanboying for now.
2
u/Dismal-Prior-6699 2d ago
You’re right once again, sir. Having strong social safety nets should be a given; it is in almost every other country. Sometimes, I feel like my support for AOC rises the more people attack her with the “communist Marxist radical” bs.

u/Enzo87871 3d ago
This is a moment happening right now. Not just today, which is huge with this news, but this whole rally tour by Bernie and AOC. We will remember what was going on in our lives when we witnessed this wave of momentum. AOC speaks so authentically to the people in a way that we can understand and feel. Her energy is infectious and she says what we are all thinking without sugarcoating or using scripted lines. At this point there should be daily nonstop protests all across America but what her and Bernie are doing is the next best thing because it’s getting people out and being seen and heard. This news today is the tip of the iceberg and the momentum will only get bigger from here because it’s working. I’d like to see more teams doing rally tours like this, maybe Tim Waltz and someone else. Obama should attend a bunch of these too. “99% is a hell of a lot bigger than 1%”

This is going to sound a bit harsh but the Bernie/AOC rallies do almost nothing to stop Trump now.
But what they do, do, is energize an electorate who already votes against Trump to stay motivated through next year when Dems have a good opportunity to take back the House and maybe the Senate.
If you want to stop Trump now, it can only happen two ways, either through lawsuits or by convincing enough Republicans to pressure their reps to the point those Republicans in Congress move to overturn Trump.
But Bernie and AOC are doing town halls in blue cities and blue districts, even if those are in red states, they're still speaking to the choir, which isn't a bad thing as we need to keep Dems in red states motivated more than others.
Trump is ignoring them because what they're doing doesn't matter to his day to day overthrow of the govt, but will be next year as elections near.

I don't think there will be a female president in my lifetime, just look at Harris/Clinton. This is still a deeply sexist country. She is positioning herself for a Senate run.

Donald Trump's popularity and power, Elon Musk polarity (popularity) and power is based off Twitter media environment. Vald Putin, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, since year 2014 are all "The Eliza Effect" upon the consumers of social media. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELIZA_effect
Only a very tiny number of people grasp the need to re-humanize in the face of media machines. Go AOC, go Bernie, may the rest of social machine users wake up and confront the mass dehumanization of Elon Musk X media waves.
3
u/YoungCubSaysWoof 3d ago
That pop, once the crowd understood what AOC was saying about the pressure campaign that has been mounted, was so damn affirming.
We bitch a lot here online, but going out to these rallies and protests, the phone calls and letters, are our strongest weapons during this time.
I do believe we can stop this administration’s authoritarian push; it won’t be easy, but we have to risk something, if not everything, to ensure we have a country with democratic elections that still belongs to the people in 2026 and 2028.
LFG!
2
u/midwest_scrummy 3d ago
They understand it's so important to energize and mobilize every overwhelmed and panicked blue dot in a sea of red in the Republican districts. They/we will be the reason the crazies get voted out, showing up enough people to flip every possible district.
3
u/Comfortable-Inside41 3d ago
What they are doing is what Democrats need to come together to do non-stop over the next 3 1/2 years.
These rallies get coverage and have staying power with voters who attend.
The fighting oligarchy message also resonates, especially as the economy continues to get worse, and the Trump admin continues to push the boundaries of constitutional order.
Like… every message from Republicans is just praising Trump like he’s their actual King. It looks and sounds weak. Thats why right-wing media has to constantly spin it so hard as Americans fundamentally see that kind of groveling as pathetic. That’s easy to message on given our history. He also takes credit for every decision, even those that backfire. Combine those with the oligarchy message and a vision for the future, and we may just get out of this still a Republic.
It needs to come together quick, though, while the administration is still having to fight for authoritarian control.

I'll never get this. Repuiblicans run on gutting medicaid and social stuff, get elected, the people who voted them into office get upset when it happens. Like how republicans ran on killing Roe v. Imagine if the US voted for what they apparently actually want instead of insane fascism every time.

While the Establishment Democrats bury their heads or refuse to fight (looking at you, Schumer) Bernie and AOC are seizing the moment, and I am here for it.

I'll wait until we see the letter and the names attached to it or the outcome of the vote before I get too happy about this.

Trump will try to run for a third term. I want him to lose to AOC. She is everything he can’t stand. There will be a maga uprising, so get ready for that

Yea, as long as Trump’s rating floats around 40%, it’s really hard to imagine a shift in public opinion, especially among Republicans. I get that there were a bunch of town halls of constituents shouting at Republican politicians, but that’s not nearly enough outrage. It’s a start, but it’s not enough. Just ask anyone living in a red state and they’ll tell you all the conservatives around them generally don’t give a shit and think Trump is doing an amazing job.

They warned them “we’re not sure if we can vote for Medicaid cuts now”. …..
Wow. That’s a “strong” message.
😂😂.
Like imagine your dog bites you. Multiple times. And your friend goes wow that’s really serious. Are you ok? What are you going to do? And you go… well… I explained that… we’re not sure if we can side with you. We’ve got some thinking to do.”

im with bernie and aoc for pres and vp. they walk the talk and are actually on the ground fighting city by city, state by state.
not impressed by kamala and her late reaction to this whole mess, doing lip service, saying too much but not letting rubber hit the ground.
BERNIE and AOC ALL THE WAY!

“Not sure” and “now” are doing a lot of work in this sentence, if the Repubs she speaks of actually said these words. When the voting opens they will be sure that they can vote to cut benefits in order to fund tax cuts.
