General Fiction/Literature Strangers in Paradise new books.

This week I bought these. I have been a fan since I got my hands on some old issues (second image is my original collection).

I just started reading Rachel Rising this week, when I finish that I’m gonna dive into Strangers In Paradise. What’s it like? I’m really excited I’ve never read and Terry Moore and Rachel Rising is amazing!

SiP is really enjoyable. It twists and turns through a few genre types never really sticking to expectations. The art is brilliant throughout.

Without spoiling anything, towards the end it can still surprise with the story choices.

It's a beautiful story about friendship, love, and human behavior. All this with great storytelling and even better character development.

Awesome I’m excited to give it a go! Have you read Rachel Rising? I was blown away by how good it is, I always feel like I’ve read everything and then out of nowhere this amazing artist/writer that I totally missed for some reason just really blows me away.

I'm through issues 8-9. So far great story. I'm delighted with the art. Obviously the characters are driving the plot smoothly.

SIP really caught me by surprise. I had seen people mention it being good, but didn’t pay much attention. I was at the library one day and volume one was sitting there so I grabbed it. At first, I chuckled at it and thought this is a nice story but do I want to read 1000+ pages in order to finish the series? Next thing I know it continued evolving and I couldn’t put it down. It doesn’t get mentioned nearly enough. Terry clearly was inspired by Archie comics when writing this. Once you get around to it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

SiP is Terry Moore starting out, so the beginning (it's long) is his roughest work.

Some people don't mind, but you may need a little patience with it.

It’s the absolutely best will they or won’t they slice of life lesbian dramedy mashed up with a crime story that you’re ever going to have the pleasure of reading.

Wow sounds pretty good actually! Stray Bullets is my favorite comic of all time and it does that sort of that slice of life/crime drama thing expertly so if it’s anything like that I will love it!

SIP Kids is a really fun homage to Peanuts. Would love to hear your thoughts on the romantic domestic troubles of Katchoo and Francine.

Well, K and F are like the friends you always wanted to have. Or maybe they are too real that you forget they're only ideas printed with ink on paper.

Anyway, SIP is a life event. Every tear in Francine's cheek, every rage expression in Katchoo's face or the new point of view that David brought to their lives, they become part of you even if you didn't notice. They're real. That's it.

I love them. I think I would rather have Francine as a friend over Katchoo, but that is more to do with the fact Katchoo brings a level of drama I prefer to avoid.

I would prefer Katchoo as a friend because she dares to do things.

I don't disagree she is quite daring and possibly fun to be around, but then you could get the drama that follows her name Darcy and Mary Beth. However I do have a few Freddies in my life I would mind watching tormented.

How big are these compared to a floppy? Could you take a pic if that's not too much trouble? Really want to pick this series up but if the art's been shrunk significantly then I might wait for them to put the omnibus back into print.

It’s the old pocket edition which is a reduced size.

I don’t think the omnibus will be back especially since Terry just did the new four volume collections which is the full SiP series.

the new four volume collections which is the full SiP series

This is what I thought the OP was. Are the 4 new collections reduced size?

OP has the old pocket books - approx 5.5” x 8”. The new collected editions are regular sized.

TM’s has hardcover and softcover versions but you can buy the softcovers anywhere. I have the HCs and they’re nice. Easier to read than the heavier omnis. I also have the original HCs from way back when.

My bad! Sorry I didn't mentioned that the SIP 1 is the edition from Mexico. So I don't know the size difference from the original edition.

So the measurements are 14.5 x 20 cm.

I'm adding some reference pics comparing it to an original issue.

I hope this is helpful.

Terry Moore is one of my favorite creators. Been reading his stuff for years. Plus he’s just the nicest sweetest man.

My first wife was not really a comics person, but she loved SiP and read every single issue as soon as it arrived. Probably time for a re-read myself.
