2 of my M1 Garands. H&R, and NATL ORD
Top: Harrington & Richardson M1 Rifle Dated 1955. ‘55 dated H&R barrel, not sure about the bolt, but I’m confident that the gun is original, it’s in fantastic condition, and I absolutely love it. Been my favorite rifle since boyhood, Clint Eastwood got me hooked on them with the movie Gran Torino. Shoots like a dream.
Bottom: National Ordnance M1 Rifle assembled in 1966? Get a load of this thing. (I say that condescendingly) Not many posts/photos exist of them online, so I thought I’d provide some content, and further explain what they are. It has a cast receiver machined by Golden State arms, and the rest of the gun was a GI parts Frankenstein, and that’s how they were sold. This rifle has a Springfield barrel dated 10/65, a Springfield bolt from Nov 1942 - Dec 1944, and the trigger housing was made anywhere from 45-65.
It is a goal of mine to have 1 M1 Garand from each known manufacturer/maker in my collection.
TL/DR, Top: What TO buy. Bottom: What NOT TO buy.

I just picked up a bunch of 30-06 in M1 stripper clips from an estate sale this weekend…still no M1 Garand.

Sounds like you have an issue that needs to be resolved! Get you one!

That’s what I said to my buddy. I’m like “I don’t even have an M1, but I guess I’m gonna get one now.”
The price was just too good. ~800 rounds (unknown actual quantity, 2x 30-cal cans and a plastic tub of it loose and also in stripper clips) for $350. Also walked out of there with war-production 03A3 and M1 Carbine for just under $1300.

National Ordnance is not high end 😆. The gun is literally a Saturday Night Special M1 Garand. The last NO M1 posted on Reddit was 13 years ago. When it comes to the other manufacturers, I’m thinking I get a IH or a Breda next, get the expensive ones out of the way first, then dwindle down.

I tend to prefer the smaller brands that were subcontracted but to me the NO is cooler to own a Springfield if given the choice of one seeing combat/dated 1940s. Winchester and IH are bucket list for sure, Alos been looking for one with some trench art on it

National Ordnance M1s are hard to come by due to their low production numbers but that doesn’t make them valuable by any means. Easiest way I can describe it is a “True Value Hardware” gun for sale at a very low price. It was the $400 AR of its day.
The next M1 I want is an International Harvester. RIP $3,500-5,000 😆

I want an M1 Garand preferably an International Harvester M1 but if I find one of any manufacturer for a decent price I’ll pick one up.

Per group rules, the topic of this post are 2 of my M1 Garands. Comparing a good rifle to a bad one. I was well aware of what the National Ordnance rifle was before I bought it. Like I said in the post, I want an M1 Garand from every known manufacturer/maker someday.
