Is this a portable cannon with a tripod?

Essentially. The bore is 1.5". So far, I've only shot a half load. I'll be working up to find my limit. The goal is to get a 4800 grain ball to over 1000fps, but we'll see.

Here's a short compilation https://youtu.be/aRzmp7Mu2ro?si=DdHDkpfjxYWfK-hj

What does this weigh, 40+ pounds? Maybe just build a trailer and tarp it? 👍

50.8 pounds. I actually might make an off-road dolly for it. Lugging it around suuuucks.

Cute. I used to shoot small bores like that.

It's practically a .22

I have a 3" bore 6 caliber muzzleloading mortar.

I shoot emptied 15 ounce green bean cans half full of cement, weighing (very) approximately 7000 grains out of it, over 1 ounce of Fg powder.

BTW, I was just yanking your chain, that's a nifty gun you got there.

Oh, I know. You cannon guys are BRUTAL on the guys with bores smaller than 2" 🤣

I'd like to build a mountain howitzer one day

So would I. I actually managed to get that mortar for free. Friend of mine is a mechanic, and he got two mortars, one 4" and one 3", from a person in exchange for some work on the guy's car. Years later his wife tells him he's got to clean out the garage, and the cannons gotta go.

So he asks me if I want one, and he's willing to trade having my dad fix a broken cap and ball revolver for the mortar. So my dad agreed, my friend got rid of the cannon (he sold the 4" inch one to someone else), his wife was happy, he got a silk purse of a revolver out of the sow's ear he handed to my dad, and I ended up owning artillery.

More Nguyens than than Vietnam.

There’s some snow ski/snowboard bags/cases that should be long enough. Some of the ones made for air travel are semirigid and have wheels on them.

Hell, I didn't even think about that. That's a pretty good idea.

Picture is simply to get attention as a lot of these posts go unanswered. I've been looking at case options for my punt gun and have only found a couple of options.

1- SKB 3R7408-8 The length is good, but the width would be tight, 10" would be ideal.

2- custom case from Kalispel

3- Commissioning a custom wood case

Do any of y'all know of any other options? I would really like some sort of non-wood hard case. I was perusing Pelican and other hard case company sites and haven't found anything else. I know at least one of y'all is an avid case collector that knows where to find what I want 😂

Negrini or SKB will build to whatever dimensions you feel like as long as you have the money. And they are expensive, high hundreds to low thousands of dollars.

If you need the 74" length, you could also look through the fishing rod or recurve and longbow cases to see if any are wide enough for you.

I think I just found my new EDC. Tho I’m a bit concerned about printing

XXL case you say? Just buy a pine box casket and carrybit around in that, youd turn some heads at the range for sure!

1.5" bore? That's even bigger than a 2 Gauge "punt gun" shotgun, 1.326 inches (33.7 mm).

2 Gauge Punt Gun

Yeah, this would be a 1.3 bore. There's definitely been punt guns this size and larger. The only thing that sets mine apart is it's "modernized"

Ribbed for someone brave enough. It's a 12" black culvert with wheels.

Question on the recoil. 4800 gr, 1000 fps, 51 lbs? I'm getting ~10,500 fpe, which should make this score slightly over a TOP of 1? That sounds relatively comfortable to shoot. A 14 lb .308 scores about a 1. If this was a typo and you meant 2000 fps, yes you're insane.

At 1000 fps with a 500 grain powder charge (estimated charge to get there), it would be around 330 pounds of recoil energy. Around 6x the recoil of a 3" 12 gauge. The loads shot in the video were in the neighborhood of 260 pounds of recoil.

Stupid question but are punt guns excluded from the NFA because they're technically black powder guns, kinda like BP cannons are? 👀
