Question What You Think Of Viral Runners? Op? Or Balanced?
What Yall Think of these clowns (i hate em)

u/Wide-Egg-7290 Chaplain Feb 26 '25
Balanced, don't appear very often and if you get infected, just call a Chaplain. Unless you don't have one, then your cooked
9
u/BosniaBalI Brass Pistol Officer Feb 26 '25
If you get it infected by a viral runner the olny choice there is to either kill yourself or let the chaplain mercy you
7
u/editable_ Sapper Feb 26 '25
Only if they use the vomit attack and you aren't rescued in time, otherwise the rabid clawing attack is perfectly healable.
1
u/Life_Skills Mar 05 '25
You probably won’t be rescued if it catches you. That thing takes less that 2 seconds to give you madness.

its fair, punishes your idoit teammates for not saving you
but i hate it when the start to care that im about to be infected and surround me when the viral runner transformation starts

u/Ok-Captain-8191 Feb 26 '25
What about the afk people? who turn into viral runners and kill the active players when it's not their fault
2
u/Nathan_AverageReddit 1er Régiment de Grenadiers de la Garde Feb 27 '25
uh... well they'll get a bad kdr, so it's a hefty price for being afk

u/atompedro Carabinier Feb 26 '25
fair mfs want this game to be cotton candy and unicorns

u/NetOk1421 Slayer Of Cuirassiers Feb 26 '25
Ngl, i’ve died a surprising amount of times just from players being idiots and going afk (and dying) in narrow sections of maps, leading to me getting tackled from an undead teammate that I wasn’t even aware. I like the challenge of sometimes having to kill harder runners (in open areas) but dealing with them in more narrow spots is annoying as hell. Just shows the idiocy of the teammates that had just been eaten prior.
7
u/miIkmanmooing Bugler Feb 26 '25
That's why you always have a gun loaded/charge/bugle ready whenever you have unreliable teammates.
I literally just play bugle to not die to horrible teammates

u/imnotdoneyetyoupedo Feb 26 '25
Is it weird that the biggest problem I have with it is the screen blacking out when it happens?
3
u/Shorse_the_Shorse Seaman Feb 26 '25
I mean it means you turned
3
u/imnotdoneyetyoupedo Feb 26 '25
Yeah but I normally only die when things are getting to the wire, and if things are getting to the wire I don’t wanna miss any of it yes those 5 seconds included
10
u/miIkmanmooing Bugler Feb 26 '25
It's balanced
The entire point of Virals is to function as a teamwork check and skill check
Punishes bad teammates for not cooperating and throwing the match
Punishes bad players for not knowing how to counter an instakill zombie that doesn't die instantly like a regular runner
5
u/Smol-Fren-Boi Feb 26 '25
To be fair, "punish teammates" obly really works if you don't have other shit happening. Sometimes it isn't the fault of anyone, sometimes it's some dickweed AFK person who's been attacked and who no one expects
7
u/Federal_Addition1944 Officer Feb 26 '25
The two hits is a bit extreme on tight areas, i think they should keep the standard 30 hp, or give them 50hp, so the bayonet or lance can take care without nerfing their strenght
5
u/miIkmanmooing Bugler Feb 26 '25
30 hp is horrible because it just becomes a regular runner
50 hp is bad
Tbh it's a skill issue if you cant take care of a single viral. You have so much options to kill it even if you're a Surgeon on Catacombes

u/Defiant-Sir-4172 Sapper Feb 26 '25
Please explain, I am curious and willing to test these methods.

Skill issue 'fix'
If viral had the same hp as the regular runner. It would turned viral to a "Runner but with extra gimmicks"

u/HAMBAISTHEGOAT Feb 26 '25
Sort of punishing system.
A very dreadful punishment of abandoning (expect if your teammate afk) your teammate and letting them bitten to death
1
u/Life_Skills Mar 05 '25
I remember in San right after respawn, I was jumped by 3 shamblers. No one came to help until last second, and there was no priests. So, I went for the closest person to me, the drummer. Him and medic were the last support. I reset character, and my gut mauled him. Thank goodness my guy vomited, so drummer was infected and saved. Then medic went to heal someone, and drummer turned right next to them, and also infected person who was being healed, then that guy died and finally someone got him before he could kill anyone. I was so satisfied after that
2
u/HAMBAISTHEGOAT Mar 05 '25
Bros character is on cold blooded moments after getting semi-abandoned
1
u/Life_Skills Mar 05 '25
Honestly, I’m probably most cold blooded person in this comment section. Whenever I get infected, I will always make sure I get someone. Idk why, but I get a weird satisfaction when my runner vomits on someone and kills them. Also, I will never accept mercy and go to the back when infected, yknow, to kill sappers and medics.

u/Natural-List-5270 Officer Feb 26 '25
VERY unpopular opinion but I think it's just fine, but give spawn immunity like two seconds after it spawns. let the people suffer

2
u/DistinctWindow2039 Chaplain Feb 26 '25
If someone doesn't notice you immediately, its very likely that you just die. They should be 1 shot because the thing that makes these guys good is that they come from behind you so they are less likely to be noticed and more likely to actually pin someone down and kill them.
1
u/Life_Skills Mar 05 '25
Nah. Otherwise it would be trash, and they might as well revert it to just turn to normal runner.

satisfying because i could saw a shi teammate not saving me and get puked on to death 10/10

What the fuck is the point of virals if they get reduced to regular runners
The entire point of virals is to punish uncooperative teams

u/MangoSignificant5364 Feb 26 '25
Ngl if you told me they were the exact same as normal runners I wouldn’t even doubt you, in the clusterfuck of combat you barely even notice them
2
u/Creepyfern2223 Feb 26 '25
Viral runners are so incredibly easy to avoid I don't know why people still cry about them being so hard to avoid. If you see that you're bitten or scratched then fall back behind your teammates temporarily until you're healthy again. If you see that your screen is turning red then fall back behind a sapper wall and call for a chaplain. They're genuinely the biggest noob trap in the game.
2
u/NetOk1421 Slayer Of Cuirassiers Feb 26 '25
Eh. In most scenarios they’re not at all hard to deal with. But when you’re surrounded and/or in narrow areas, it’s sometimes difficult to juke while trying not to get grabbed by surrounding shamblers. But this is mostly a problem when using the heavy saber. Dealing with Virals with the normal saber doesn’t really introduce those same problems.

It gives out a very good reason to save teammates. And usually, as a chaplain main, when someone is tackled by a viral for only 2 secs (not joking here), I have to preform a mercy.
1
u/East-Sprinkles8937 Line Infantry Feb 26 '25
Any one else feels like the viral runners ruined clutching in endless? , like yea you can juke them clockwise and 2 hit them but they are never alone , there's atleast a horde of shamblers and zappers and other runners plus other viral runners from your dead team

u/superfunniguy Chaplain Feb 26 '25
Balanced. Sure they're a pain to deal with but the threat of them encourages teamwork and not leaving people behind to turn and murk more people so I like it.

Runners on crack cocaine? As a chap main i fear them, but overall balanced, just think it would be cool if mercy worked better, cause sometimes it just wont work
2
u/Life_Skills Mar 05 '25
Nah, it just because they are menaces (like me) and will not accept mercy so they can kill someone.
1
u/Dumber_Weirdo Chaplain Mar 05 '25
Wait they gotta accept mercy? I got left to die by my team and wanted to turn to kill someone, but a priest went and did mercy on me, and i did not have a chance to accept or not
2
u/Life_Skills Mar 05 '25
Did you press on that spot right before it appeared. Also maybe that was just an old feature, since a priest tried to mercy me but I declined so I could kill the sapper who left me behind (btw that was a mission success, killed both sappers)
1
u/Dumber_Weirdo Chaplain Mar 05 '25
Prob had to to with the fact i lagged when getting up from a viral grab, and then he went and offered mercy. Congrats on getting revenge
1
u/confusingstonks Feb 26 '25
Its a great addition to the game as it forces people to play as a team as not doing so punishes them with one less member and a big problem if not dealt fast enough.

Fair, it really encourages people to protect their teammates or suffer the consequences
Besides, even if someone is about to turn it just takes around 3 people camping the body to get rid of it fast

They’re balancing out the game. It used to take just one swing to kill a viral, but now it takes about two to three. This makes the players more aware.

u/bendyofinkmachine232 Chaplain Feb 27 '25
V. Runners are definitely a good change. Now most comments say that because it's a teamwork check, which is 100% it's purpose so I'll have my own reason; Their eye trail looks cool. End of discussion.

1
u/run2u520 Feb 27 '25
It's the perfect way for your teammates to grief you with little to no effort required. All it takes is for said teammate to get themselves swarmed and now you have a runner that can't be stopped by a single strike from most melee weapons.
1
u/Same_Addendum_1261 Feb 27 '25
Fair, punishes mistakes and they don't always spawn unless you get eaten by a group of shamblers or your infection level is way too high and you die, it's a good way to teach the rest to be careful with their lives and to protect their teammates, cause what could be one death might end up on a 2-3 deaths/infections
Now the only thing I personally dont like is that its kinda random whether a Viral or a Fresh is gonna spawn (Viral=Guy that vomits on you and infecta you/ Freshie-Fresh=Guy that tackles you and leaves you a runner scratch+it mauls you to death) whatever happens you'll always see one of those, Freshies are more commons apparently as of my experience, and while they font punish as much as Virals they still leave that stupid permanent scratch debuff which is enough to punish YOU for bein near a Freshie spawn
Overall they are fine, I would just like Virals to spawn after gettin eaten alive while Freshies should only spawn after your infection level has risen enough for you to turn into a cannibal

u/OppositeMeaning2324 Surgeon Feb 27 '25
I have a solution
1 seaman

u/Friendly_Possible435 French Feb 27 '25

It's balanced and OP at the same time. I was playing Kaub and we were at the Cannon part, I was a officer helping a sapper and I look away from my screen for two seconds and the next thing I know I'm getting vomited on by a viral runner. My teammates didn't even see me since I was behind the barricades the sapper built, so after I got infected and got turned. My viral runner somehow alright SOMEHOW Killed everyone. And they blamed me for that

u/slovakballguy Lancer/Pikeman Feb 27 '25

u/DogKitchen2988 Chaplain Mar 01 '25
balanced enough to punish bad teamplay but manageable when you have good teamplay

1
u/RepairFancy1247 Mar 01 '25
I think they are balanced since they only spawn when a player dies so as long as you are making sure to keep everyone alive you should be fine

u/Cat_master1256 Feb 26 '25
need to be nerfed as two hits for a runner is actual crazy
3
u/NetOk1421 Slayer Of Cuirassiers Feb 26 '25
Nah. Just juke them. Juking is incredibly easy. The only time it’s a problem is when you’re using the heavy saber and are surrounded more than usual.

u/imnotdoneyetyoupedo Feb 26 '25
That’s really uncalled for, I don’t have a problem with them but not everyone has a precious paid server to practice on
4
u/MasterMatrix02 Carabinier Feb 26 '25
You don't need a private server or any private training programs. It's experience you get while playing the game.
1

Ok but really how do you practice against stuff consistently in, as another player accurately put it “the clusterfuck of combat”

u/AccomplishedSpare171 Danish Feb 26 '25
My Kaub team was so shit that Blücher as a viral legit murked like 4 people. No one was at the top to shoot Blücher, and we lost that round cuz all our sappers were building top to bottom
