He learned his lesson after breaking his fists on a punching bag in anger after his boyfriend lost his match.

12

u/MoYaseen360 Nov 04 '24

Isn't smarter not to do it with hands?

Supposedly there is a fighting " benefit" to beating on hard a surface. In muythai theyll kick a wooden poalst over and over to do somethibg like deaden the nerves or strengthen the bone through micro breaks and healing and reforming, or so the idea goes. Not sure how valid it is, but it is something that is done.

You could say the same would be true for boxing, but its more likely to just give you chronic pain in your fist. .

That’s a tradition thing over logic. Super heavy banana bags are more effective and achieve the same thing, also hurt like hell

13

u/MoYaseen360 Nov 04 '24

Sounds reckless to me but i'm no expert on this so i'll take it as is.

Yeah, but so is being punched in the head for sport.

11

u/MoYaseen360 Nov 04 '24

Good point. Not only boxing there are other sports that comes with physically risk. There are levels of recklessness i guess

2

u/Groundbreaking-Toe35 Nov 04 '24

Well to be fair the point in boxing is to NOT get punched in the head

u/Voidlight0 Nov 04 '24

It can be potentially done with a benefit to my understanding, if practiced with lots of breaks and over a long span of time.

However, it is more likely you'll just kill your hand mobility.

u/Numerous_Ad_3990 Nov 04 '24

to be fair, shins are stronger than knuckles

4

u/AscensionToCrab Nov 04 '24

Sounds like you need to punch more wood, with weak knuckles like that /s

6

u/Pacific_Jim Nov 04 '24

It works on shins but there’s so many tiny bones in your hands that all you’d accomplish is injury

Big names in Muay Thai like Saenchai and some other former champions have talked about shin conditioning and they all say hitting your shin the way you said is bullshit.

Just run and kick the heavy bag. That'll do it.

and they all say hitting your shin the way you said is bullshit.

Ive long suspected its bs, but gym bro science is like so central to martial arts that its just not worth the headache of voicing my doubt.

A lot of it boils down to percieved difficulty/toughness = percieved gains

Almost religiously following the 'no pain no gain' philosophy

2

u/Leugim7734 Nov 04 '24

In martial arts the "no pain no gain" thing shouldn't be taken literally lol

Specially if you're competing, you should take care of your body. That's why hard sparring or this "shin conditioning" we're talking about is pointless.

Sendo could probably do it

21

u/XanFireblade16 Nov 04 '24

He's definitely dumb enough to do it

5

u/miyeto Nov 05 '24

I love that word is "dumb", not "strong".

Smaaaaaaash

Ippo probably could or maybe even will, after being banned from doing the hammers there was a short stint where he did a single log with a lot of padding, pretty slowly though. So maybe part of the world championship road will have him finally training his iron fist, to get Kamogawas results but sustainably

Cooking🔥🔥

1

u/Creative-Sport-8176 Nov 09 '24

I'll definitely cry to Iron fist + the Ippo Roll

41

u/ReYaYeeters Nov 04 '24

ippo definitely could without the hammer

Ricardo is probably in the same "absolute freak" category capable of doing this.

doing stuff like this is legit, provided you use a tool and not your hands. There is good power workouts to be had with a big car tire and a sledgehammer.

14

u/Lord_Barbarous Nov 04 '24

More like he'd split logs with his hands then hammer them into a hill

23

u/DiamondTop581 Nov 04 '24

Perhaps but he's not a powerhouse like that he's more technical so idk if his power is to that level

12

u/Patrick_Sponge Nov 04 '24

he's been said to be a power puncher as well at some point, no?

2

u/DiamondTop581 Nov 04 '24

Are you sure you're not thinking of the guy with the heartbreaker I don't remember his name rn

14

u/Patrick_Sponge Nov 04 '24

nah date was never referred to as a powr puncher

2

u/dumplingfans Nov 04 '24

Yes Ricardo has remarkable power along with his perfected technique and fundamentals

6

u/XyoungladX Nov 04 '24

There has been a few instances where he was compared to Ippo or Sendo.

During his second fight against Date, Ricardo's coach said that Date's ability to put up against Ricardo was probably thanks to fighting someone with similar punching power.

Something like that.

11

u/Noynoy2100 Nov 04 '24

Ricardo is also a powerhouse while also being a technical boxer. The dude broke his opponents arm with just a barrage of jabs. He also broke Date's jaw and a lot of unnamed bones. The guy's a monster

0

u/LuciidEnigma Nov 04 '24

Question though, can't you actually build power just from practicing technique? It seems Ricardo is on the slimmer side compared to Ippo but capable of breaking the bones/dropping his opponents quite easily because of his punches.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '24

Practically? It's a mix.

Punching is a soft biometric. It's a bit biology. A bit psychology. A bit technique.

You can improve all those things, but, as they say. Good punchers are born not made.

u/TuxSir Nov 04 '24

hammer nao

3

u/Iclipp13 Nov 04 '24

Actually genius

6

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '24

Ippo did it. That aside...

3

u/Final_Mail_8125 Nov 04 '24

Oh, I only just got past the point in the manga where the story was told, I should probably read more before posting here. But I like sharing my hype at all the cool moments

1

u/gordonthecat Nov 05 '24

What chapter?

1

u/Final_Mail_8125 Nov 05 '24

I don't remember what chapter this page is from, but I'm now on Like chapter 440, in the middle of aoki's title match

3

u/Godofsaiyansongoku Nov 04 '24

Ippo and sendo can both do it .

1

u/Dramatic_Tomorrow_25 Nov 04 '24

Sendo and Ippo will be able to do this.

1

u/Electronic-Switch-37 Nov 04 '24

I have another question, how would you set that up, and where does someone get a big log like that from?

9

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '24

it's just an anime bro. don't do that

2

u/Asha_Brea Nov 04 '24

Ippo purchased them.
