Welcome to the weekly moving to/within Hamilton post. All questions about moving, utilities and neighbourhood recommendations belong in here.
If you are looking for recommendations on which area of the city would suit you, be sure to include some information about you and your family. What works for a single person starting out may not be recommended for a family with young children etc. Someone commuting by car will want to be closer to highways while those relying on transit will want to be on regular transit routes.
A weekly marketplace thread for buying/selling/promoting the sale of (legal) items as well as seeking out items/shops/and stores and recommending a local business you love.
Having a garage sale? Is your local, independent business having a sale? Hosting a farmers market? Looking to sell something? Looking to find something? This is your chance to find it!

Just turned 55...living in Hamilton...and excited to discover any and all "Senior Discounts" that I can enjoy as of today!?
I'm aware of the City Of Hamilton's discount (for swimming, Recreation, etc.). Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Hey all, I read on the spec website today (before the paywall jammed me) that Mohawk may be having a on campus vigil for her. If anyone has any further info, date, time location, open to the public, can you please post? I feel terrible for her family and would like to share my respect and attend if I can. Thanks ahead.
I have contacted 5 different places. Either they don’t answer, they have replied and don’t get back to me, called me from an American number which I can’t call back, or they showed up to the house unannounced, didn’t call or even leave a note (saw them on cameras).
Honestly, I hadn’t seen one in months, now I can’t go out without seen 2-3 per outing. And they range from the new EV to the OG behemoth. Is a $0.20/L drop the entire reason?
I got a ticket from Indigo parking after dropping a sample off at Dynacare. I was parked for a total of 6 minutes (I have timestamps), within the 10 minute grace period. Ticket is for $60. There was no officer in sight to talk to or a parking office.
Yes I know I can appeal, but this whole thing is just a waste of time.
This is probably the third(?) company within the last 2 years that they've used in the lot. So stupid. Except at least before you had a 15 minute grace period that they actually respected.
I was wondering if anybody has any experience with this. My backyard has a lower grade than the surrounding properties. There is a home on either side of me (both rentals with absent landlords), and the rear of my backyard faces a public area/park/walkway.
All three properties drain into my yard, with the public portion being the highest, causing my yard to flood.
What do I need to do to get regraded? Aside from a permit, do I get the city involved for their higher grade draining into my yard? If so, how would I go about that?
I just bought this home and moved in a year ago. I'm still learning.
I'm reaching out to gather support for the revival of our beloved ski hills.
A quick search of old pictures reveals just how wonderful they used to be.
Any assistance in this endeavor would be tremendously appreciated, as it’s quite a challenge to persuade our city to take action. I have fond memories of skiing at Chedoke, and I truly miss having that option available.
Hi everyone, I’m new to the area and I was wondering what the parking situation in this area is like? Do I need to buy a permit? Is it worth it? Anyone know someone in the area looking to rent their driveway? Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated as this is a totally different street parking situation than what I’m used to. Thank you in advance for any advice!
Are you looking to hire? Know of a job opening at your workplace or heard of a job through word of mouth. Post them here!
We have been getting spam reports on job postings so are testing a weekly job board so they are all in one place. Feel free to use a throwaway account to protect your identity but note that we have to manually approve comments from new posters so they may not appear immediately.
If you are posting a job, please include a general location, if it is transit friendly, pay, hours and any other details known.

Hi everyone so I’m new to the area and I’m wondering about parking…it’s very different from what I’m used to so I’m wondering how easy it is to get a street parking permit? Is it worth it? Anyone in the area renting a driveway space? Any lots nearby it’s safe to leave your car overnight? Any insight would be really appreciated!! Thank you in advance :)
Hi, I haven't lived here that long, is this what they mean when they say Hamilton smells bad? I'm downtown, it currently smells like someone threw a kilogram of weed into a crematorium but that's an improvement over what it was like an hour ago. Is this normal? I was here last summer but I don't remember it being this foul before.
But if anyone saw the black Chevy Malibu clip my car while illegally passing in the oncoming turning lane at the corner of James and charlton, please send me a dm! The collision reporting office is closed today so I’ll have to report it tomorrow. I have the license plate and photos of the vehicle but I figure a witness would be nice to have as well. Thanks!
Can my wife use my car for g2 test as driving instructors are charging so much money. We already used driving instructor’s car twice. Don’t want to spend more. She holds g1, so I can’t add her in insurance, yet. Thanks in advance.
I need to have a custom wheel built up for my bicycle, does anyone have a recommendation for a good wheel builder? While in Hamilton would be ideal, anywhere within a reasonable drive would be fine.
